I'm hoping that this decision is seen as a bold strategic business decision for the better. If this is the case, then Google/Stadia need to demonstrate this .... fast!
We need a major explanation of this business decision - and why it is the "correct one". Let's hope we see something soon.
What do you think?
I suspect its gonna be real silent in terms of communication .. nothing new unfortunately..
Yep. The "major communication" was phil harrison's one.
Now all we need to look is facts. Erin's team makes me believe in Stadia.
Cloud native games are a beautifull target.
Perhaps too soon.
Force to you, Stadia's CM for the next weeks...
I've stuck around till now but I'm cancelling my Pro service today. The potential for games built for the cloud was really exciting. I'm embarrassed for Google that they couldn't even get one out the door. Amazon and Microsoft's streaming services are so much better than what Google has to offer now that first party games are off the table. I'd bet Jade has A LOT to say but never will.
Ah well, good luck to everyone continuing to carry the torch.
Google, you've proved the naysayers right.
TL : DR for this whole thing -
Google looked at the numbers, and saw the future revenue stream needed the tech, not 1st Party games. Google have never really been any good at content creation, and while I don't think that this was a direct cause the CP2077 launch and Ubisoft's woes showed that the current model for AAA games is heading for a crash.
What I don't think people are really seeing is that for Stadia this is a Google vote of confidence in a very Google way.
They won't stop acting as a publisher (by my read of Phil's statement), they're just ceasing work as a developer. So SG&E will still exist.
What isn't clear is whether the Stadia 'brand' will remain the endpoint, or if - for example - EA Play, Ubisoft+ and other sub services will use the Stadia platform to create a gaming service.
This is Best Response on the Forum. Put this on the front page!
This. Pretty much.
I really hope we get some clarity soon.
A further explanation of what this all exactly means for the future of Stadia. What big games and 3rd party developers are currently on board etc.
If Google are doubling down on the tech behind Stadia, does this mean we are likely to see upgrades to that tech at the server level soon rather than later?
Hi folks, appreciate you all stopping by the Stadia Community Forum. Given that this discussion concerns all users and not just Founders, I'm going to move this conversation to the general forum to allow other users to chime in with their thoughts.
Thanks in advance for understanding.
I wondered why I couldn't find it in the Founders Forum - thought I was going mad (as I was sure I'd posted it) ![]()

It actually sounds like a logical strategy however disappointing it may be. What worries me is whether or not Stadia Pro will be worth it at all as it seems Stadia will now focus on just bringing big games to the platform instead of Indy games which could mean fewer free games.
I think this decision is correct one.
From the beggining i was thinking running home dev studio is not smart move cause high cost + making game is hard, the good one's even harder.
Better bet on already existed AAA studios and bring ALL games to Stadia + all future PC releases, how?
Switch funds from running the home dev studio into team that will make the released games + future releases to Stadia, offer AAA dev studios release their games on Stadia with no effort or cost. Dedicated google team will do this or 100% help in doing so.
Second thing is lowering requirements of internet connection, many ppls wants only to play games and while they dont want or can't spend on pc hardware they can spend on games. There are ppls with potato laptops or smartphones they get from the mobile providers for free when they get mobile subscriptionsubscription from them.
So in general:
1. Bring all games to Stadia by switching weight of doing so from developers to dedicated google team.
2. Lower the internet connection, this will open stadia to even more peoples.
