Stadia vs Consoles vs PC - Pricing model & Pro discount

google_stadia_base_tier.jpg

The recent release of Darksiders Genesis combined with the end of BlackFriday sales make me wondering what is the strategy behind Stadia.

Do Google want to compete with Sony and Microsoft ? In this case the pricing model is good in a classical console battle but might not be enough vs a Xcloud/Netflix.

Or do Google plan to take a position toward Steam/Epic/Gog and other PC store ? In this case, selling a game 10 to 15$ more than settled store is quite odd.

Moreover, Pro offers were supposed to bring regular discounts in the store. But as it looks now, it seems more that Pro offer might just be traditional sales like those on Steam. Which also makes me asking myself what will be Stadia base model of pricing to attracted people...

I also keep in mind the advantage to get free games every month. Which is a strong good addition to the pro service.

Anyway a word from Google in upcoming events/stream would be appreciated in order to clearly understand the direction of Stadia model.

Cheers !

xCloud isn't solely GamePass, your digital purchases carry over too as GP only offers 100+ games while the Xbox One has a library of 2,000+ games and 500+ backwards compatible titles. xCloud is not simply a pay one price for everything service. Meanwhile Stadia doesn't have half the amount of games as GP. In time they'll eventually get there. Not sure why people expect them to have everything out of the gate especially since this is just their public buy-in beta phase.

Agreed. That makes no sense to have no discount now.

What they need to do is :

- permanent discounts for pro users only (such as -10% on everything if you subscribed).

- AND regular discounts for everyone, as you can see on other stores

For the moment, not in the pricing and not in the free games I am finding a reason to stay as a Pro user... I want to think they are still figuring out everything in the technical level and they will start to pay attention to this soon...

The main issue here with Darksiders is it was release in parody with the PC version, so people are going to compare the prices, the people who bought into STADIA (i think this might be true) but usually the people who jump in as founders are hardcore gamers so we know where all the deals are.

I can tell that they won't do that

That or it'll be discounts on games no one wants. Now that I  reread that PRO doesn't really seem like to much of a deal.

you might as well stick with the free plan because your monitor doesn't have high quality options, I assume they will change this I HOPE they do anyways. I don't plan on ever using stadia with my phone or a tablet that stuff gives me weird motion sickness.

the deals suck so far on stadia.

Here in Sweden Stadia games cost as much as the same games on console. Games on PC is and have always been cheaper. What’s a bit annoying right now is that almost all games on Stadia is a bit older and are about half price on the other platforms. Just because Stadia is new the games aren’t.

I would have liked, and I thought, that games on Stadia would be priced as PC games since they are ported from PC.

But once new games starts to release even on Stadia I don’t think there will be a price difference compared to other consoles. But then we have to make a decision if the convince of Stadia is worth the worse picture and audio quality. It's up to each of us.

If Stadia starts to deliver what they promised real 4K 60fps or better with better picture quality, I will not buy PS5 and Xbox Scarlet. Maybe the PS5 for Uncharted and The Last of Us. Sony have by far the best platform exclusive games. :slightly_smiling_face:
