Hi Stadia Team,
I want to talk to you about the promise that the service would have the possibilities to scale, and in the future support more advanced games.
The future is here now, and what i mean by that is for example a game like Assassins Creed Valhalla.
Operating at 60FPS at 4K on Xbox Series X, with very high graphics, compared to the results we are having today on Stadia: 30 FPS at 4k (medium graphics comparrision generally).
The Stadia platform have according to you scaling possibilities, and if these scaling possibilities was working, a game that requires more hardware power then Stadia is operating on at the moment, shouldnt this be automatically configured behind the scenes in the datacenters?
You talked earlier about the graphics cards being able to scale, and this is what all of us are buying into, we dont need to upgrade our hardware when new next gen consoles and games are appearing, so from what i can tell today, you are not scaling your hardware automatically to enable games to be played in a way that was explained in 2019.
So, can you clarify if the plan is to manually upgrade Stadia components in datacenters at a later date, or are you going to have the games that Stadia runs determine what graphics components is required, and scale it instantly based on the hardware demand of the games, providing the user with a more satisfying next-gen experience?
Can we get an official reply to this?
BR,
Mikael
Kind of sad right? Because I remember the video and the announcement really well. They were really boasting about how awesome the tech is gonna bet, etc etc etc, but when it comes down to the actual result "all of a sudden" (because people didnt see it because of the hype) they are saying "up to" and "its up to the developers". That last part is really frustrating..
"In what resolution can I play Game X?" - It's up to the developer.
"When we hear more about Mafia Trilogy"? - It's up to the developer
"Will the game be cross-play or cross-save cause all my friends are still on another platform so it is super important for me to have cross-play." - It's up to developer.
It always sounds as if they just launched the platform and now leave quality (about games, streaming works amazingly well) in the hands of developers, who probably give a rats ass because the platform is still young and small.
Good points MisterMarcoo!
I have a feeling that Google is comfortable in their current seat, and its very obvious that the main focus the last couple of months, especially the last few weeks, has been to increase the number of games they offer on the platform. Wether its 5 indie games and 1 tripple A title its not relevant, its the number of games that speaks how successfull stadia is atm.
50 games, 25 games, 100 games.. who cares, i rather you focus on the platform, and answer the questions, dont keep us in the dark, all you need to do is to give feedback to your community!
All these games... "We have reached the 50 games mark, 100 games mark milestones"..
A direct action, triggered by the knowledge of Amazon Luna, a true competitior to Stadia on the horizon.
The focus is all on expanding library, get to a bigger audience as fast as possible to stay competitive and relative.
Luna doesnt offer 4K at the moment, so no need for Stadia to care about 4K, and probably wont for some time.
GeforceNow is very established and also not a true 4K competitor.
Everyone loves all the stuff Stadia is implementing, some stuff long overdue, some new.
But the core promise of relevant competitive hardware is yet to be delivered to the end-user.
If all games were 1080P and running on ultra settings, that would be such an improvement! I would pay for that instead of half assed game ports with up to 4K and choppy FPS..(not even true 4K and still 30FPS (RDR2 for example).
Yea I think you are right there. At launch "everybody" was complaining that the amount of games was too low, which in a way, was true. So this boost of games is def a good point. And by adding so many of em to Pro I will never have to be bored again (as long as I am paying). I checked my subscription yesterday: I have paid 70€ in total since the start and claimed all of the Pro games. Dunno how many that is exactly but I think around 60?
Let's be real: the amount of games is growing and they seem to be getting the newer games as well (legion, valhalla, cyberpunk, lets hope the Mass Effect Remastered Trilogy?). In my opinion this is sorted and probably up to the developers: they need to make it. But it's strange a game like Valhalla launches with 4K/60FPS on other platforms and not on Stadia, while we pay for it. (not sure if it's 4K/60FPS somewhere else but you get my point).
And your other stuff is 100%. Come on! Share more about the platform! All they talk about is games, while it's a new platform. We are here as early adopters because we are gamers (or interested in gaming) and we like the tech. Why don't you ever talk about that. They act as if the games library is their USP, while it's clearly not. It's their superb tech. Talk about it damnit! ![]()
@MisterMarcoo Very good point, they don’t talk. (Up)
It's a shame. The whole selling point of Stadia and other cloud streaming game services from the get-go was "Since this all runs server-side, you can get a high-end PC gaming experience without the high-end PC hardware." But disappointingly, what we actually got in practice was more akin to a middling console experience. And now, with the advent of a new console generation, we're not even getting that much. For game streaming to live up to its promise, a streaming service not only needs to live up to that initial promise, but offer continuing upgrades so that their service doesn't fall behind in power and features to become just as obsolete as an old console or aging PC.
Game streaming had so much potential. I would have thought that a giant like Google could have pulled this off too. But if they can't do it, I don't see a very bright future for game streaming ever moving beyond a novelty.
Well put in words, hope google responds to this in a near future!
Hey Google!
UP
Seriously.... not even a canned response of "keep an eye out...." on something or another?
With the next gen blade hardware rumors that has emerged, lets hope it turns out to be more then a rumor!
Still no replies from Google?
@Stewmeister86 Hahaa, wait, are you serious?
Tomorrow
I feel stupid for going with Stadia now. I could have pre-ordered a PS5 but noooo..
if you buy a ps5 now you will feel stupid when they release ps5 pro
That will take 3 or 4:years, at least.
Okay it will have to rival 4080.
I am honestly not convinced.
I have faith that Google will update its servers to compete with two generations of technology in 4 years.
Maybe if Series S didn't exist.
I honestly don't see the generational leap on consoles anywhere.
Still no answers from Google.
I think this will be answered in 2021, focus is to expand to more datacenters to reach a bigger audience, seems unlikely they will upgrade datacenters at the moment/unleash new hardware.
Google, with your Tech-God powers...
Show us a SIGN! ![]()

No sign ![]()
The fact that Google didn't respond doesn't mean Google doesn't exist. Maybe they want to wrap themselves in a mystery as to whether Google is dead or alive. As soon as they reply we know that Google is alive and then they are forced to reply.
So....no sign=no broken promises
Push !
I can only assume the reasons for not having upgraded or scaled the hardware yet:
1st: It is too expensive and Stadia doesn't pay off yet.
2nd: Better hardware is not available in the desired amounts.
Perhaps there are some contracts with AMD and the new GPUs have to be built simultanously as the XSX/PS5-APUs are being produced.
We'll see which one is true in the end ![]()
Could be both or even a few other factors.
To be fair, every cloud gaming platform right now is having exactly this issue. GeForce Now has some GTX 2080 rigs that they give to games like AC Valhalla or Watch_Dogs: Legion, and those do run pretty well (though Valhalla still has performance problems, even there), but they've also got a bunch of 2060 rigs that people get slotted onto sometimes and the performance there is terrible. Shadow has delayed their promised upgrades basically all year long, and their rigs struggle to run Valhalla at more than a stable 30fps.
I think it's just really hard to broadly upgrade the number of rigs we're talking about here to the newest hardware, no matter how much money you've got to throw around. Not everybody who wanted to pre-order an XBox Series X or a PS5 got one, but there are no limits on getting a Stadia account. They can only provide what they're physically able to provide to everybody, and there's a cap on that that'll probably never exactly match up with the newest thing that exists.
That said, it's not like they don't know the new consoles are there. I have to assume hardware upgrades are part of their 2021 roadmap. And Vulkan just started talking about support for ray tracing, so with any luck we'll hear about that in the near future too.
Guess in the meanwhile its not only about answering the question...its about answering !
How can it be possible that we are using the official forum without any feedback of forums owner ?
To be honest, its more than disappointing....
I would very much like to second this. Recent and even previous games have showed us that Stadia is not ready for next gen as it can barely keep up with previous gen. Assassins creed games, red dead and even cyberpunk are all "technically" last gen games and they run at medium settings and 30fps. "Performance mode" is a joke. Anyone can turn settings down to low. Please don't just rest on the "mobility" gimmick. I don't care about youtube integration or streaming my games. I want high settings at least at 1080p at a slick 60fps. More than that I'd like clarity. If high end gaming is never going to be your goal for Stadia, please just tell me now so I can switch to GFN or buy an Xbox and be done with worrying about it.
thx for keeping on them and getting confirmation no progress is being made.
will cancel my trial and use steam/gfn.
This is the main reason why I am not a PRO sub anymore and haven't been for a while. You can't promise 4K60fps and then deliver 1080p 60 or 30fps and 4K 30fps. On top of that many of these games, they have released are 2D platfomers which run quite easily on Stadia's hardware. On top of that again is how they are able to charge full prices of the games while having a pro sub which you pay monthly and do not get true 4K and 60fps, (without those discount days of course). I was sick of all this and managed to get myself a Series X, amazing console, gamepass is great, now even with EA+, and yes Ubisoft will join gamepass as well. I will not come back to stadia until I see 4K60fps on all games. I already warned google many times about this before the new consoles were out, yet they don't reply or give any sign. So now I and others I know who were stadia subscribers are now on Xbox series x and PS5 and also on RTX 3000 series.
Its safe to say that we are not going to get any official announcement from Google when/if they upgrade/upscale their hardware for Stadia.
Now you may ask yourself, why is that? Check this interview with John Justice, skip to mark 23:14 >>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MnMDA_FBugU&t=752s
Please notice how the interviewer is telling John Justice the following: "You guys have 4K Streaming now, at like 30 frames... you looking to upgrade to 60 frames per second?"
John Justice responds: "We can stream at 4K 60FPS now , its up to the game wether you go past".
Interesting wouldnt you say? If i were a game developer, and i could just choose between porting a game to Stadia, would i want the player to get choppy 30 FPS or smooth 60 FPS?
This is a big lie, here is why:
Imagine having Playstation 5 dev kit at your disposal, but the game you have created is such a demanding game, that you really need some more GPU or CPU power to reach that 60 FPS target, let say you need another 20 %.
In a real situation, you would cut down the graphics, do some optimizations, and reach 60 FPS, or you would just lock the FPS to 30 and release the game.
Here is the exact same situation for Stadia dev kit:
Imagine having Stadia dev kit at your disposal, but the game you have created is such a demanding title, that you really need some more GPU or CPU power to reach that 60 FPS target, let say you need another 20 %.
You just ask and you shall receive, you call up Stadia Dev team, tell them to increase the GPU or CPU for your dev kit, since its in the cloud. And you gain that 20% more power needed to run your game at 60 FPS.
So what happened in this scenario? Lets say Ubisoft dev team called Stadia dev team about AC:Valhalla.
Ubisoft Dev team: We need some more juice, 20% GPU/CPU to get to 60 FPS at 4K, or 60 FPS as 1080P Ultra/High atleast..
Stadia Dev team: The number you have dialed is no longer in use.
Come on, how stupid do you think the community is? Of course the dev-kit is ALWAYS the limiter, it doesnt matter if the dev-kit is in a datacenter or infront of you, you use what resources you are provided, its not like its a 1 week port, it probably has been in the works for a very long time using the dev-kit. They twisted and turned all the knobs and the outcome is 30 FPS.
The community will not crucify you for being truthful.. just dont BS us and talk to us atleast!
The time is now to upgrade.
xbox series x is just way ahead.
doom eternal you can see the
detail in somethings is below xbox series s
They even have time now that the series x and playstation 5 are having problems
getting in stock
