Stadia platform hardware upgrade plans

Hi Stadia Team,

I want to talk to you about the promise that the service would have the possibilities to scale, and in the future support more advanced games.

The future is here now, and what i mean by that is for example a game like Assassins Creed Valhalla.

Operating at 60FPS at 4K on Xbox Series X, with very high graphics, compared to the results we are having today on Stadia: 30 FPS at 4k (medium graphics comparrision generally).

The Stadia platform have according to you scaling possibilities, and if these scaling possibilities was working, a game that requires more hardware power then Stadia is operating on at the moment, shouldnt this be automatically configured behind the scenes in the datacenters?

You talked earlier about the graphics cards being able to scale, and this is what all of us are buying into, we dont need to upgrade our hardware when new next gen consoles and games are appearing, so from what i can tell today, you are not scaling your hardware automatically to enable games to be played in a way that was explained in 2019.

So, can you clarify if the plan is to manually upgrade Stadia components in datacenters at a later date, or are you going to have the games that Stadia runs determine what graphics components is required, and scale it instantly based on the hardware demand of the games, providing the user with a more satisfying next-gen experience?

Can we get an official reply to this?

@GraceFromGoogle

Mikael

Stadia needs to come up with more concrete plans and improvements. As a Stadia user, 30 fps for AC Valhalla is a HUGE DISSAPOINTMENT for me!! One of the main arguments of Stadia was to provide 4K 60 fps gameplay. We all know that Google is more than capable of achieving this. Stadia users don't want to play their games on a mediocre system as the next-gen consoles roll out. I'm a big supporter of Stadia. However, not getting the best performance out of games makes me question making long term investments as a customer. I kindly request Google to address these issues as soon as possible.

same is for me I'm also a big Fan of Stadias Convenience but it happens more and more often, that I returned to buying Games on PC because they look Far better.

Totally agree! And now there is also a game being published to the platform with GEO restrictions... Tbh, it's really bad. I don't care about that game (family feud or something?) But it's the idea.

To me it looks like Google know how to make fantastic systems and programs, but they just don't know how to sell it. I wonder if they ever thought about getting an agency in to do their marketing for Stadia, cause I know a lot of companies that sure as hell would do better marketing then this.

AC:V with just 30fps is a mess. They need to upgrade their hardware if they really want to do serious business

A little more transparency, Google. We believed in the Stadia dream and want to love it, but we need to know where the ship is going.

Ahh transparency by Google... It's like requesting world peace from the world leaders, lol.

All jokes aside. This whole thread (and many more on this forum) shows a lot of "worried people" and Google never responds. You can tag Chris and Grace for as many times as you want, if the thread was not made by them, they won't respond. Simple as that.

Google doesn't know how to do marketing, which still is funny,

I understand where you are coming from. They absolutely need to start rolling out updates. (gen 2 blades, some sort of quick resume/state save) what I will say though is look at how significantly better stadia plays than it's competition. Alot of the power is being used to send the game to you and it's doing an incredible job. It WILL scale at some point and we will eventually get these gen 2 blades with ray tracing but for now getting the service feature complete is priority. We still need fully working assistant (that was a huge selling point for me).

One year later and Stadia is still not feature complete.

It would be foolish to expect an ugrade to next gen any time soon.

I am REALLY hoping for some kind of dlss competitor to solve these issues with current hardware and allow for much better scaling with gen 2 hardware.

I agree with all of this 100%. Someone said they wish they could BRAG to their friends about it. And I almost can. But stuff like this is not good for the platform.

I absolutely love Stadia, but this will quickly go the way of the dinosaur if it can't release its next generation alongside current consoles. It's officially last gen, now that Xbox is out and PS5 is practically here. I have no reason to buy anything else on Stadia until we get a 2.0 that severely increases performance to modern standards. Much love to Stadia team, please keep us in the loop on when we can expect these changes to be made.

Im agree with the Post! Stadia is far away from what was promisssed.

One fun fact: obisoft is the best publisher for stadia in quality - the games runs the 4k with good settings. Vallhalla Looks far better than of the xbox one x.

Rdr2 btw is 1800p upscalling 30fps.

The Main Problem: They promissed to Start the future and they missed it hard.

And the mass of indi games in Pro is fail too. No one out of nish care about it.

I read some posts to Vallhalla, Google missed to push it up too, and the Most dont say one Word about stadia.

After Lots of Post at the Start of stadia, nö one cares about it. And Google dont care too (New chromecast cant run stadia).

We will see. Next there is cyberpunk and raytracing

Exactly that: Google doesn't care (as in the whole concern).

Stadia is just that small tiny leaf on the whole Google tree, while Youtube, Adsense and Google Ads are like whole branches. I wonder if Sundar Pichai even know about Stadia and if he or his family play on it. I really wonder.

I really, really, REALLY want to see a comparison of Assassins Creed: Valhalla to Xbox Series X and PS5. The last year we've been told that we dont need to upgrade our hardware to get next gen games. I'd love to see if this Stadia version looks as good as the new systems. However..... I'm worried it doesnt. As Im seeing, it doesnt. HOPEFULLY it's the YouTube compression that's not letting this look as good as it can. I've said for the last year the big test for Stadia will be RIGHT NOW! If they can show people they dont need to spend $500 or a $1000 for 1 or 2 consoles, then people could put that money away and use it towards next gen games and not hardware. Again, Im really worried a side by side comparison is going to show exactly why youd still want a PS5 and/or Xbox Series X.

We could like to do it in December with cyberpunk or watch dogs Legion. For now stadia has no ray tracing. Without hardware update that will never happen.

So we can now looking on YouTube how it looks like. RTX on and RTX off.

That are the first raytracing crossgen titles. The technology will be standard when PC RTX cards and consoles have reached enough consumers.

Still waiting on that reply from Google, keep the thread alive because if we dont speak up and let Google know about this, its just going to be another minor item on their wishlist/whiteboard.  It was layed out to us in Google Stadia Reveal video from 2019, and its been silence about this since then.

Now is the time to speak up Google, let your investors know what the roadmap plan is for this!

Agreed, they should let us know but it's not like we're direct stock investors so there's less "pressure" to inform us regularly about certain things.

Granted - I have investments in Google directly but I doubt they talk about Stadia much anyway.

I'm not defending them but keep in mind Shadow (gaming cloud PC) is still not getting their higher tiers leveled off and they had maybe two years of a headstart before Stadia.  It's likely not easy to upgrade all these servers and also keep in mind they are a business.

There is a possibility that Stadia isn't generating enough sales yet (which is hampered heavily by data caps and a relatively small library).  Then to talk about new entrants that are quite similar (xCloud and now looming Luna).

i am sure the mindset at Stadia right now is: we want to attract casual gamers. people who see no difference between 30 and 60 FPS. probably because hardcore gamers want to have the hardware

Yes - good point, my brother keeps reminding me that "Pro"/hardcore gamers are likely not going to be a huge consideration to Stadia (potentially "forever").

If you want hardcore, you stay with PC.  Obviously that's not an always but it will be like that for quite some time.  Stadia hasn't even mentioned VR

I think we are get head of our self with comparing stadia and new Sony and Microsoft new wonder machine  let get one thing clear watch dog legion assassin creed valhalla both running 4k 30fps  on  both Sony ps5 and  Microsoft series x the same as  stadia of course  the new generation consoles has lot  more tricks up it sleeve  ray tracing one example I think that developers have big headache that they have to develop the triple aaa games for so many machine on day one I'm more than grateful that we can play these title on stadia  stop getting so hyped up over the new wonder machine from Sony and Microsoft. I'm sure if you spend another couple thousand euro or more for high end pc it be better performance than new wonder console  I'm   sure after the last few month of great games with a few triple aaa titles between  the only thing that remember me that I'm stadia player is controller in my living room   that suit me just fine

Thx Orwell I'm sure if Google and the hard working game developers that port game to stadia could every game 4k 60 fps there would still be doomsday thinker that would still not be happy  with stadia till they deliver 4k of8k at120fps :eyes::grimacing_face: of course I'm as gamer curious over new machine from Sony/ Microsoft  wondermachines but I hold out for ps5 Pro or maybe xbox serie double xx :rolling_on_the_floor_laughing::rolling_on_the_floor_laughing:but think meantime we should only compare stadia to other  true cloud gaming service  amazon luna,on tv Microsoft xcloud   let be realistic with ambitions of stadia Google is working hard to improve things add new feature only tip for Google should maybe get contact with

You may have point but sure Phil Harrison and Co have already mentioned the infamous words (up word to 4k60fps with every game )  they never promise anything as they say true meaning lies in the words.
