Hello Guys,
I have a quick question.
So, I have been playing Stadia in unsupported country (Bulgaria) Eastern Europe using a VPN , my experience has been great so far , no lag or whatsoever.
I am planning to buy Red Dead and Assassin's Creed, however before I do that, I want to make sure that I am not breaking any rules. My question is , is it forbidden on using a VPN with Stadia or is it breaking any rules ?
Is it legal ( like breaking any law ) and company legal ( company law) ?
Thank you in advance.
Hi @raptu39 ,
we are no laywers or something else. Thats why we cannot say that something is legal or unlegal. Nevertheless, you are doing something which Google does not support. But I did not hear any player that have problems using VPNs.

Hi @Tobonaut ,
Thank you for replying, I just wanted to make sure that I am not braking any Google rules, I will buy the games I want and continue to enjoy this wonderful system. Thank you again , I hope you have a great day.
It seems VPN is OK, but Google does recommend allowing a specific range to ensure your controller connects properly, "If you use a firewall or VPN, make sure your rules don't restrict traffic on ports in the range 44700 - 44899 (TCP and UDP). These ports are required for playing games on Stadia. Please note that this range might change in the future."
Hi , thank you for sharing this information.
Usually I connect to the VPN , launch the game and then disconnect from the VPN and continue playing. I am using Xbox one controller. However when playing on my phone and if I connect a controller via Bluetooth it starts to lag. I am going to try your suggestion.
Strange thing is that it works fine on my Pixel phone with a Bluetooth controller but lags if I use my One Plus phone.
Just want to say that you don't need to use a VPN at all to use Stadia, (other than creating the account).
I'm in Romania and I don't have/use any kind of VPN, I imagine it would be the same for you.
Hi , thank you for sharing.
Actually other people have told me this as well, but if I use Stadia without a VPN I receive a message " This game is restricted In your region " , but it is strange since if I use the VPN on a Bulgarian server it allows me to play and that is very strange since I am in Bulgaria.
Ah, that's new for me. Didn't happen yet, maybe because I haven't tried a region-restricted games. I basically play only Destiny 2 all the time.
But wait, you get this message for all the games, or is it a specific game?
Hi , Yes for all of the games.
It is very strange , yesterday i created a new account but was using a VPN and the country that i set was Netherlands , now on the new account i am able to play without VPN. Unfortunately i already bought Assassin's creed on my original account and i spoke with Google support and it seems that i cannot move my purchased game and save file to the new profile , since account migration was not possible.
Hey, Raptu39, is me again ![]()
Can you tell me if Stadia still works for you without a VPN? Like I mentioned before, I was able to play for months, but since this morning Stadia seems restricted to me, and now I'm also forced to use a VPN.
I made another post more detailed about this, but also I thought about asking you, since we're both from unsupported and neighboring countries.
Hi @Dubigrasu @Dobigrasu, i can confirm that Stadia is working without VPN. I was able to get even my original account working without VPN ( contacted Google Support and asked them to change my Stadia country to Netherlands). If you are a pro member try to claim a Pro game you haven't claimed before , this should fix it.If it is still not working try adding a payment method in Netherlands or Italy in Google Pay/Play
Hi @Dubigrasu @ I saw your post. Disregard the suggestions that i made i didn't know you were receiving 404
I don't think that you got region locked, since they have a different message something like "We are sorry but Stadia is not available in your country" also that is only when you try to register from an unsupported country. Even if you are region locked ( as was the situation with me) you are able to access Stadia, but when launching a game you will get a message that the game is not available in your region , so i guess this is something else. Maybe Server was temporarily unavailable
Yes, seems something different here, I thought that maybe is the ISP restricting my access to that page, but other friends using various others ISP reported the same in Romania since this morning. Tried other computers as well.
On my phone I can start the app, but games are not starting while Stadia is giving all sorts of messages:
"Sorry, Stadia has stopped, or Sorry, Stadia has encountered a glitch, etc."
And again, it was working fine until this morning, I haven't done anything to my systems or internet connection. I'm stumped. And I can't contact official support since they require for you to be in a supported country.
Hoping that is something temporary, all the best.
Hi @Dubigrasu @Dobigrasu , i don't think that Google will block access intentionally , since according to them they want to bring Stadia to anyone as soon as possible.I had many tickets and calls regarding region lock
I will advise you to contact them , Google Support is one of the best, they respond usually within a minute. Don't worry that you are in unsupported country , just make sure to explain that you were able to play before without VPN ( note that some agents don't know what to say or how to respond but that is normal for every contact support center especially if they are a new hire ) if you are not satisfied with the answer just submit another ticket. Also i will advise you to use Call option since it is more convenient and you can explain things more clearly. I am sure that they will be able to help.
Hey thanks, I took the advice, but alas they couldn't help me. I'll have to wait until Romania is supported.
All the best.
Hi @Dubigrasu , i am very sorry to hear that.
I hope that maybe they are testing something and that Romania will be part of the next wave of supported country i hop this is why it is not working.
Also i found people that have the same problem , they as well are located in unsupported country.
I am curious, are you able to access Stadia with VPN or even with VPN you are getting that message
To address your question: Yes, while the issues was still ongoing I was able to connect to the website through a VPN.
It was sufficient to connect through a VPN (with an UK address) to the website and then disconnect the VPN once the website was on. After that I could connect normally to my games. The one issues was that I needed to repeat the procedure few times until it actually worked and avoid anything that could reload the page.
But as mentioned, no need for that now.
I need a permanent vpn connection, otherwise Stadia say something about "developer dont want to be used in your country"
Is that for a specific game? I haven't seen this so far (not using VPN).
Somewhat related - I tried connecting my Stadia controllers to both my phone and PC recently but was unable to until I disabled VPN on both. I tried with 2 Stadia controllers and on different devices with various ports unblocked. Once the VPN is disabled the controllers are able to connect to the phone or PC client just fine. Not sure if there is another workaround, just something you may also want to keep in mind if you plan on using Stadia controllers too.
I'm facing the same issue. We're you able to find some workaround?
Which vpn are you using'
In a year I am 6 months in Germany and 6 months in Thailand. In Thailand I tried most reliable VPN providers and it's all the same. The game is launching and then I get the message that my internet connection is too slow to use Stadia. Even if I sit behind a 500mbit connection.
