So apparently Stadia has a conflict with Frontier FiOS again (from my research it was a problem back in December).
I have a 500/500 fiber connection, connected via Ethernet and it still has an issue with massive skipping (tried several routers and switches). When I tunnel through a VPN, issue goes away. Does anyone know if Stadia/Google are aware of the issue and is there anything I can do to raise awareness?
At this point, the service is essentially unusable if it doesn't get fixed and I really won't have any other choice than to return the Premier Edition that I just purchased.
Good news to share regarding the frontier/stadia issue.. The stadia team is currently working with frontier regarding a few legacy firewall issues on frontiers end. So far the frontier servers that I connect to stadia servers through were updated, and I’m happy to say my frame drops issue and other network related issues are resolved. Kudos to the stadia team For really working w ISPs to deliver their service as intended.
Just got a few minutes last night to test this out but I can report that it is now currently working at my house as well! Huge thanks to the team at Stadia for working with the FiOS people and getting this resolved. I know from experience that it was probably quite the challenge. Well done. Now I'm really excited to finally get a chance to test out my premier edition setup this weekend!!
Also, thanks to everyone else who chimed in with their experiences. It really helped to bring attention to the issue.
Yup can confirm the same results in florida with fios.
Yup, started two weeks ago for me, was running flawlessly in beautiful 4k for about 2 months prior to that. Now I get consistent frame skips which of course makes it unplayable. I have Frontier fios 500/500, I'm hard wired to google mesh routers, have delt with google wifi customer service and stadia cs. And of course frontier denies its on their end. But according to a few threads its frontier being shady.. I was a stadia hater prior to this then a saw the light and loved it. Oh well guess I'm gonna shell out 500 for a PS5..... **bleep** it!!!
Yeah i've been a pretty big stadia supporter since the beginning but this is the second time FIOS is having problems that ONLY seem to affect stadia and the platform is NOT worth switching ISP. Makes you wonder how many people tried stadia and had a bad experience due to performance but it was due to a similar situation to this.
Were you, or anyone else, able to get this resolved? I'm in Tampa, FL and I'm having the same issue. I feel like I've torn my home network apart and put it back together just to show that it isn't my network. No one seems to care though and they keep telling me it's not on their end (both Stadia and Frontier support).
Nope. Pretty sure there was a reddit thread where it turned out to be Frontiers fault last time. I think it took a bunch of people reporting the issue for them to even look into the problem. This is another inherent problem with Stadia in general. Its too easy for any party i.e ISP, Google or a game dev to point the finger or pass the blame.
I have the Stadia tech support team working on it but no, it's not resolved just yet. They are aware of the issue at least now. ![]()
Also in Tampa and having the same problems. Worked ok for a few days now Stadia is unusable. Stadia/Google/Frontier need to sort this out ASAP.
Wow, glad someone posted about this. I had FiOS and I switched to spectrum early this year. I have 400 mbps no data caps. Started playing Stadia in March and it's been my only gaming platform now and will be now. But definitely not switching to FiOS now
I'm in Tampa FL and have the same issue with Frontier FIOS (500 up/down). I have an open ticket with Stadia (they're supposedly analyzing traffic to identify the cause). I scheduled an appointment with Spectrum on Thu Jul 9 to switch from Frontier FIOS -- if the issue isn't resolved by then.
Be sure to let us know if switching to spectrum does indeed improve things around mid day.
Oh I can tell you the answer to that right now: It does.
My work has Spectrum as the ISP and I've tested it out at lunchtime a few times now on the same laptop I use at home and it runs *much* smoother. Granted it's Spectrum Business, but I suspect it's the same backbone as their commercial users.
Unfortunately I can't really use my Chromecast at work, but that would realistically only make the connection even smoother.
I switched to Spectrum GIG on Thursday morning (7/9) and it worked fabulously Thursday evening. So I think folks switching to Spectrum will be happy. It looks like the issue with Frontier FIOS has been solved, but too late for me.
Absolutely,, spectrum 1gig service works flawlessly. I would’ve switched as well if I didn’t need FiOS’ upload speed. It was definitely a Frontier issue and I can’t thank the stadia team enough for their dedication towards resolving this for the early adopters. At the end of the day this platform fails or succeeds through our collective opinions and experiences. Kudos to the @StadiaTeam
I’m in southern CA and have been working with both frontier and the stadia team on this for a couple of weeks now. I can confirm that they are actively trying to figure things out after numerous, videos of the issue and a few different trace routes to servers within googles fabric. This issue also affects Youtube videos, if you pay close enough attention the quality spazzes for a second every few seconds.
I’m confident that this issue will be worked out. For those of you connecting to cs agents unwilling to accept responsibility, don’t worry. I’ve pushed this issue way up the chains and both companies are trying to figure it out. It’s a frontier issue though 100%. I switched to spectrum without dumping my fios the first time this issue occurred months ago, and it worked fine. Therefore if you’d like to make the switch, do so. Rid yourself of the headache. But I upload a ton for work and need the up and down speeds of fios. For those unwilling to swap ISPs, Im confident this will be fully worked out soon though. Hang tough
Hey thanks for the info. Yep, it's good to know it's being looked at and worked on. I'm actually in a contract with FiOS (and I need the upload speeds for work as well), so I'm fairly "stuck" with them as well. So my only other real option would be to give up on Stadia, which I really don't want to do.

Awesome news! I hope they roll out the changes fairly quickly.

Yeahhhhhhhhh.........its not fixed. I'm about to cancel Frontier because of this. I was using Spectrum at my vacation rental last week with no issues. I don't think frontier will ever get this resolved. Their company is in chapter 11 and things are not looking good for that company.
Yeah, tried talking to their support and despite all the information I gave them they still wanted to run through the "lets try resetting your router" script.
Have you tried reaching out to the stadia teams social channels? And let’s @StadiaTeam here as well. I’m a living witness that the stadia team helped frontier fix a firewall issue on their servers. Right after that this problem went away for me. Google followed up a day later asking me to test the connection post fix. Again try reaching out to stadias social channels, particularly twitter DM.
I've reached out to Frontier and Stadia. Funny part is its the worse its been since this all started. This is so frustrating.
Do you mean Frontier? Spectrum didn't have an issue (so far as I know).
Per chance do you have a support ticket number from Frontier? Maybe if I literally point at the resolved issue they can just open it up and see what was done.
Unfortunately I do not have Frontiers ticket number, they were barely any help. Most of my help came directly from stadia support. They performed the heavy lifting when communicating with Frontier. For everyone’s reference I’ve attached a copy of my communication with the stadia team, including case number. Reference this case while speaking with stadia CS, my case includes the fix for Frontiers problem.
I have also replied to my ticket explaining the distress of my fellow stadia/frontier users.. I’ll update when Stadia CS replies.
Just wanted to say dude, you are awesome for continuing to reply to this thread even when your problems are resolved!
Appreciate that, I think we all can benefit as a Stadia gaming community once this issue is completely resolved for everyone. I went from unplayable with Gig up and down to an amazing Stadia gaming experience, I ripped a part my network, replaced routers, etc.. so I understand the frustrations. For Stadia to succeed, all layers must interact properly, from Stadia servers to the individuals ISP.. If there's a hiccup in the chain it ruins the entire premise of Stadia and the experience. I do believe the @StadiaTeam understands this and they’re working on it for everyone.
I've setup an install of Spectrum. I'm done with Frontier, I don't see this issue going away.
