Stadia Stream Quality

Jump to Best Response

So I've noticed something that is unusual. I normally play Stadia through the Stadia App on android. However I recently tried using it through Chrome and noticed some differences. First off, the stream quality from the App is considerably worse than Chrome. The quality through Chrome was almost identical to playing on a console or pc. However I kept getting frequent controller disconnects and various input lag here and there. Certain features worked in Chrome but not the App.  I wasn't able to open the Stadia menu inside a game with my Xbox controller, but I am able to on the App. I'm not sure the reason behind lower streaming quality on the App, but I would like to see an improvement. It is generally a bit pixelated, and can make it hard to see in dark areas. The input lag is non existent and performs well on the App. But as stated before there was much more input lag in Chrome. Also. Voice chatting is also something I would like to see implemented soon into the Stadia App. Even through Chrome it wouldn't allow me to use my wired headset for a mic. I could connect to game chat through Destiny 2, but the Stadia App on Chrome and Android both would keep me muted regardless of settings.

If Stadia worked well for you before and has since changed for the worse it's very likely an issue with your ISP or local network (especially if you're relying on WiFi) as this isn't a complaint that I've seen very often on a general basis.

If you're on Wifi, you might want to look into using an app/software to do a site survey to determine the least congested channels you should be using.  RF noise in general and WiFi congestion especially changes day to day as other people near us do their own things that muddy the airwaves around us.

I like inSSIDer myself:

If it works perfectly on one device and not the other then logically how likely is it to be the fault on Google's end and not your device?  Sure there is no shortage of complaints about stream quality about Stadia and every other game streaming service out there, what I haven't seen a lot of is "it works great on chrome but not on x".  Actually my personal experience is I get a worse experience in Chrome all things else equal (wired connections).

Some possibilities:

- Your android device isn't up to snuff for it, and using the "experimental" option to stream.  You didn't say what device you're having issues with.

- Your android device very likely has a much weaker wifi capability than your PC, if your PC is even on wifi and not wired - you didn't specify.  Even if you're using the two devices in the same exact spot, different wifi capabilities and antennas can make a big difference.

This is the first time you mentioned Galaxy in the thread.  The assumption that someone is on PC when accessing Stadia via Chrome is a natural one if nothing else is mentioned.  If you just want to vent, go ahead, but you can't expect to get accurate help and then complain about it if you don't provide all of the relevant details.  I tried my best to give some advice based on the incomplete information you provided, but I'm not going to continue to engage in arguing with you.

Hi Capt

I have not been using Stadia very long a couple of months now, thought i would have a change from my Ps4. I use the App on my pixelbook go.When i started playing the the free trial  streaming was fine but; after a short while after i had subscribed the streaming got so bad i couldn't play. my games continue to Freeze,  I play with a games controller which has become slow in responding, also my connection goes off line all the time. i'm constantly reporting these problems but they still continue. I thought it may have been resolved on the latest update but it seems to have got worse. if this problem persists I'm not so sure if i want to continue with Stadia as of this time i'm not enjoying my experience playing on Stadia gaming.

The same thing happened to me. When I first started using Stadia it was like a console experience. Perfect quality, no input lag, etc. Now it's always a bit pixelated and will drop in quality from time to time. Even spazzing out and causing massive lag to the point where my inputs aren't registered. I switched over from Xbox Cloud because their app has huge lag issues and poor stream quality even at 1080p. I'm afraid of committing to Stadia and buying games I want due to speculation that Google might abandon Stadia. Its also pretty dead online, even on big name games like Destiny 2.

100% sure the stream issues are on Stadia, not me. If I can get perfect picture quality on Crome, why not with the App on Android? Someone already tried to pull the whole "it isn't us, it's you" thing. If Stadia has such strict requirements for getting a perfect stream, they should work on fixing that to better appeal to a wider audience. I have 10x everything they ask for and yet big poo poo quality 90% of the time. Many people have reported poor streaming quality, just not on these forums. Google it and I guarantee a bunch of people have the same problem.

Sure. Because a Samsung Galaxy S10+ has bad tech inside it. Totally. Never said I had a PC. All of this is going through my Android phone. Explain how two different methods of streaming, Chrome and the App, both on the same device give different results. Clearly something is wrong with Stadia, not me. If it was an issue of my wifi or phone, then both methods of streaming would give the same results. However they don't. See the problem? And yes, I did specify what type of device I was using.
