I've heard rumors about Stadia receiving a hardware upgrade. I am sure we would all love real information about this. It has been hard to defend Stadia as a viable option to friends and family when for the most part, games playing in 4k@60fps with high settings isn't really an option for our games and in my experience, that is definitely something we would all love.
This may be an unpopular opinion but I really don't care about knowing the specs so that they can be compared with a console. As long as we know the games have the ability to run at high quality (4k, 60fps, HDR, ray tracing supported), then I don't really need to worry so much about specs. Since it's a cloud service, I imagine lower spec'd hardware can still be used for games that don't require a lot of resources.
Yeah well that's kinda the point isn't it? In order for us to know if we can do 4k@60fps w/ ray tracing, we need to know the specs. The reason anyone would want to compare specs with the consoles would be both to know where stadia sits compared to the others and to know if we are getting the same or better experience from stadia as we would from the competition. Some of us go with the superior hardware regardless of who makes it. I want gen 2 and I want it now because it is sorely...sorely needed
We do not need to know specs in order to know if we can do 4k@60fps w/ ray tracing. We just need to know that Stadia supports it. All they need to do is announce "Stadia now supports ray tracing with resolutions up to 4k @ 60fps".
They might have 4 different hardware configurations which that statement holds true. So do we really expect them to keep telling us all of the permutations of hardware configurations they have up and running at all times?
What happens many years down the road when they could potentially have hundreds of hardware configurations? There is likely value in keeping old hardware to play older games in order to optimize costs. To clarify, I'm not saying I'm against them releasing hardware specs, I just think that with Stadia, part of the point is that you shouldn't have to care or worry about the hardware running server side.
Beste Deathwish ik heb al een stadia gen 2.
As chopper mentioned above. I'm not too concerned about the specific specs Google has to offer. One thing I do want is reassurance that Google is keeping stadia competitive while all these new consoles are coming out.
I'm still sold on the technology though. With it being Google's responsibility we could see 2/3 hardware upgrades for every next gen console release. And it's free for us
I completely agree with the above comments, I'm not fussed about knowing the detailed specs of each iteration. I'm more than happy to read that ray tracing is coming in 202# or X feature is coming and that's it
The ability to seamlessly upgrade the hardware you play on are one of the biggest selling points for cloud gaming to me. People who have an interest in gaming do also care about specs, as we see with the current console generation shift. I would love to hear an announcement for gen2 hardware, because this will generate some positive new media awareness.
Even with the positive media awareness i think that's not the focus that Stadia needs. The real focus should be on the simplicity of the service, this is the main selling point.
Regarding performance i think we all just care about seeing games performing at a good performance (4k60 preferably) and not being behind the last gen of consoles.
If the game is 2D and low demanding i don't really care if the hardware behind is weaker to save costs, i just care about the final result.
Hmm I think it is interesting to see which specs are coming up and what they will do while you play. For instance "everybody" is always talking about Ray Tracing, but to be honest, I still don't really get what is so special about it and what it will do.
If Google would tell us that Ray Tracing will come in the (near) future, it would be awesome if they explained a bit what it means with some "before and after images".
THe same about 4k 60FPS . I read somewhere that a lot of Stadia games dont run it. However, I am paying for it. As a simple and normal gamer, am I being screwed over with my Pro subscription or not? When fire stuff like that is running they need to take it out with a statement or tell us they are working on it I think. I dont wanna keep on paying for the best screen resolutions if I dont get it.
But about Teraflops, I couldn't care less...
Not all game support 4k cause the dev simply did not want it to be run on those settings don't know what else to tell you ![]()
Right now the stadia technology is ahead of Microsoft and Luna in terms of pixels on screen and frame rates, providing developers put the time and effort into it.
I would argue the performance of Stadia is not good enough to take on the next generation of consoles, but it doesn’t have to be either, considering the PlayStation 4 and “current last gen” consoles are not suddenly going to go anywhere in terms of support for a few years. Most games are still being made for these last gen consoles.
IF Google have a roadmap and Gen 2 is a thing we might see in the next year, it simply has to be as good or better than Sony and Microsoft’s new consoles in terms of performance.
The real problem is multiplayer and delivering a fun experience here and now. The elephant in the room is the fact that most online games suffer unless we are thrown into a pool with PC players. But in so doing, it’s impossible for stadia to use the full potential of its server benefits, being able to gave extra players in a typical game, things that people would sit up and take notice of.
The marketing of Gen 1 is bad enough, it’s like Google think they can just jump out of quicksand and go “surprise” and everyone will start to worship the church of Google. That’s simply not going to happen with Gen 1, 2 of 3.
if anything, they need to replace Gen 1 of their ethos and marketing department with Gen 2 marketing, before they touch anything Stadia.
Totally agree with your post.
I always have a feeling Google tries to do the "Apple Way of Marketing".
Back in the days when iPhone came out, people always said "wow this phone is sooo awesome! It's perfect! You can tell because everyone has it or wants one and there is no advertisment anywhere!"
Of course, it could be that this was country-specific, but it was true. There was not a lot of marketing done by Apple. Of course, carriers promoted in their store and ads, but Apple itself didn't promote it (a lot) here (NL).
So, in a way, you could say the iPhone sold itself because it was awesome and defining. It was the very first touchscreen-smartphone out there and that's why everyone wanted it.
Now let's turn this around to Google and Stadia. Stadia is "the first" out of Beta. It's new tech, it's fresh and nobody once did something like this before. In short, it's awesome! So one might say: Stadia will sell itself, simply because of how "revolutionizing it is".
And since the launch of Stadia and watching the marketing by Google I can't help but notice this looks like it. However, Google might also be holding out. Because:
What would happen if Google spends millions of dollars on marketing right now to attract as much new players as they can? The library is still thin. Too much big names are missing. Too many features are still not active. All that marketing budget would be a waste, simply because people will not stay and play.
I think we are just Beta users in a way to show developers/publishers how the system works, just to sell it to the big ones to attract the big games.
I agree,
It is difficult to know about the specifications and version of Stadia, this information would be great especially for creators who can make videos and discuss it in favor of the company if applicable, as well as for the community to give insights on possible updates.
Now the feeling is that we are in the dark and it is very difficult to talk to people about it. I understand that this information is not relevant to most people, as they just want to play and have fun, but the world doesn't revolve around you.
I don't care about the specifics and capabilities, but I do care about the generation of game that we are provided once it's made available. Many of the newest games are coming with extra features between the console versions which stretch beyond the adaptive controller.
For an example check this link: https://www.operationsports.com/nba-2k21-next-gen-review-setting-the-standard-on-a-new-console-once-...
I just want the most recent version of these games and the hardware to be capable of supporting it. If the developer adjusts framerates and resolution, then I assume it's in the best interest of the game play.
I totally get this Gen 2
Only 2 things we need to take into consideration about this
A good thing about this is PlayStation and Xbox already launched so this puts Google in a power position as they can see the hardware and flaws at there competitors
1: The running costs of google . they can easily put this too 32G ram / 64G ram / 164G ram 28 cores CPU 20 terra flops crazy specs as it's data center .... SSD 1 second load times all custom built. But if you look currently at Google it's 10.7 terra flops along the same like of Xbox and psn. The reason they don't is that stadia is software as a service unlike xbox and playstation they could do 8K 120FPS because the chip sets and the more units the cheaper costs etc you understand business. Unlike Google it needs consumer's to buy a subscription or put more on games games 40$ would need to be 50$ to pay for it's data centers. They already had to pull its game development department as it was putting a loss on Google. At least they learned tho right ? Or nah. If there were millions using stadia and it was pulling bin millions to Google we can see this go to 164G break the industry for gaming ![]()
2: Compression I have 1000MB second the average consumer in countries that's internet infrastructure maybe not be advanced as western countries that have 1-10Mb and the people with 10-5MB they need to make VP10 Or a new system to handle the 120FPS or even 8K nothing todo with hardware unlike me I don't care I can handle 8K 120FPS 500MB second just for Google but the average person can't so Google need to make and spend time on this technology even todo witch is hard they had to make 1080P / 4K perfect even get into negative latency . Once that is perfect fully to the max I think it is now it's been 1 year since launch in 2019.
Conclusion: Google IO 2021 will definitely have some exciting news 120FPS maybe 8K idk good things to come with Google tho. This is the future
All we need is compression and the running costs for Google !!!!!!!
Gen 2 all the way BABY
And in terms of player base they just need the Fortnite players BUT remember if it's free it's costing Google money as as for PlayStation and Xbox when you get that free game you already bought the hedwao ....
So it's even. Call of duty on stadia exclusive for updates and battle royale up too 1000 players or 500 players no lag unlimited some big features like this I would be drawn to stadia right 500 player battle royale right on STADIA omddddddd
Google knows paitent is key
( I am not associated with Google he he he )
