Stadia Connection Issues

I am running out of patience with Stadia's persistent connection instability. I recently upgraded to 1gbs broadband (I actually get 940mbs to the router, but who's counting) for the optimum experience amd still get told I've got a bad connection. And yes I've followed the trouble shooting tips.

However, I am beginning to think this is an issue with Stadia itself. Perhaps as it's growing it doesn't have enough servers available to ensure a smooth experience for the user. The reason I say this is I'll run a speed test on a device and get say 190mbs over wi-fi. But then when I head over to Google Stadia's own speed test, I'm being told I've got less than 10mbs and have an unstable connection. What gives.

Honestly I want to love Stadia - I was a founder and have remained a pro subscriber - but the frequency of these connection issues just seems to have gotten worse and worse recently and I'm losing patience. Which is such a shame as previously I've been there first to jump to Stadia's defence and shout about some of the great benefits.

If anyone has any suggestions I'd be grateful as I feel like I've tried everything. Was so looking forward to cyberpunk, but it's been practically unplayable for me.

  • Which DNS servers are you using?
  • Are you running stadia on ccu or computer?
  • Is the device hardwired or wifi?
  • How many devices are attached to your router?
  • Is your modem docsis 3.0 or 3.1? What router do you use?
  • What's your down, up, and ping on the device you're using?

Firstly thank you so much for your help!

I'm not very techie. So I am not sure what DNS servers I am using.

However, I mostly play on Chromecast Ultra plugged into my TV or on my pixel phone. The Chromecast Ultra is hardwired, although I have tried it over wi-fi as well to see if that was any better (it wasn't).

I'm using a Google wi-fi puck plugged into the decent TP-Link router supplied by my broadband provider. The speed test I just ran on the Google wi-fi app on my phone is showing 800mbs down and 37mbs up.

I have 13 devices connected, but I can see from the Google wi-fi app that only one other is active when I'm playing. And I use their new feature to prioritise Stadia traffic and set the Chromecast Ultra as the priority device in the Google wi-fi app.

I'm afraid I don't know how to test the ping or what Docsys 3.0 is or how to test ping? The reason I liked the idea of Stadia was because of how complicated PC gaming had become, but this is becoming just as complicated  just wanna play games :loudly_crying_face:

Interestingly when I speed tested on the Google Stadia site this morning it is now saying 92mbs. And I've noticed the issue occurs more in the evening. So, could suggest the issue is either with Google servers or my broadband provider perhaps at peak times?

Thanks again!

This is a canned response from Google stadia sadly. I also have a 1 GB connection and GeForce now works perfectly with never a hitch. Stadia always says I have a slow internet connection, despite it being the only device in a wide array of streaming devices and phones which never disconnect. Shame on Google for releasing a product which is obviously not ready for prime time. Shame on me for being a founder also, I feel like they stole my money 🤷‍:male_sign:

I too get connection errors, and I too see low speed for the Stadia speed test when testing the connection over WiFi. There seems to be an issue with how the controller connects to Stadia's servers, but it seems to only crop up when the controller is connected over WiFi.

Stadia CS is no help, along with my ISP. Nobody can figure it out.

It would seem Grace has been allowed to admit to connection issues on Reddit, but is claiming it's only a problem for Cyberpunk. Thing is Avengers has had the same problem for over a month, and it definitely appears to be that the Stadia controller can't reliably connect to the closest server, so we get these intermittent connection errors that are often resolved by reconnecting to the game until the connection works, just as Grace recommends to do for Cyberpunk. This isn't a coincidence.

Sure would be nice if Google was honest about this junk instead of leaving us to figure it out for ourselves. The half truths and obvious lies sure don't help.

Thanks Lagcity

At least I'm not alone I guess. I honestly thought Having Google Wi-fi with the prioritise Stadia feature enabled and super fast broadband I wouldn't get any problems at all.

Which more than ever makes me think this is an issue with Google's Stadia servers and failing to anticipate and keep up with growing demand. If this is the case I wish they were just honest about it; at already then I can manage my own expectations and stop eating my time trying to find solutions.

Perhaps, I'll go finish fallen order in the meantime (as long as that's working...)

No you are not alone in this problem.

I have 1 gigabit fiber with local speed tests in the 300 to 400 mbs on a busy day. However when I do a trace route to the stadia servers, my latency and ping times increase dramatically once I hit the stadia servers. The unstable connection has nothing to do with my local network or my ISP, it is sitting directly in Goggle's Stadia servers. They apparently do not have the necessary bandwidth to handle the players of stadia during peak hours. If I try to play outside peaks hours (any time outside of the 6 pm, to midnight time frame) I have an excellent connection and flawless play time without making any changes. As soon as peak hours hit, I get kicked off for unstable connection.

The thing that pisses me off the most is Goggle's lack of honestly addressing the situation by bringing more servers online to handle then load and segmenting the connections so that the bandwidth can be handled at their server farms. I am a founding member of Stadia, but honestly I am looking at purchasing the games I want to play, and dumping Stadia. I'm about out of patience on this issue, I keep hoping that Goggle will fix this, but I'm starting to have my doubts they are even interested in tackling the problem since they do not even provide feedback nor reporting ability on this issue.

On previous online services I belonged to, you were provided with a route configuration utility that allowed you to set your routing to the server with the least lag for your region. It work remarkably well, and if your connection became congested you could rerun the utility and reconfigure your connection again. It kept the service running and allowed users to correct their own issues instead of only being able to stare into a faulty server that you can do nothing about.

I’m not alone. I’ve been facing the similar issue of network instability. I use a Hi-speed internet connection with only 2 devices at the time I play. There are times when I play games without any issue, but then, there are times when I feel like throwing my rig out of the window. The flickering and lagging internet just becomes constant and stutters without a break. I had to order an Ethernet cable especially to see if this is an issue while connecting over wifi. But now reading your comments, I’m confused if Ethernet + chromecast  make things better for me. @StadiaTeam

Okay, I'm not crazy.  I have a consistent connection with mobile where it doesn't micro-stutter to an extreme.  In WiFi, though, the stuttering is crazy, even at 720p setting.  I hope there is a solution to this or answer on how to resolve this because this is the only service I have connectivity issues with.

You guys are not alone I'm also having issues I can't even open a game up on my stadia because it's saying I have no connection on my phone even though everything else requires data Works my phone says my data has an excellent connection but stadia is not registering that I'm even connected to the internet. I'm also been having major issues with stadio making my characters to things that I'm not telling it to do like I could be only touching my left analog stick moving my character forward and all the sudden my camera will turn completely around or be looking at the sky or the ground or I'll hit the right trigger to shoot a gun instead of shooting the gun I'm throwing a grenade last time I called customer support the guy insisted it was a problem with my controller because my controller wouldn't register on stadia for 3 days I'm still having a lot of the same issues with the added issue of not being able to play games it says I'm not connected to the internet. It makes me feel like stadia is stealing my money every month because I have had non-stop issues of one kind or another since the third week I had stadia installed on my phone which is been for about four or five months now and I have been contacting stadia customer support several times throughout the last for 5 months and I always get stonewalled in the problem gets blamed on my end I have 5G data, just got my phone 3 weeks ago, and live two blocks from a cell tower. I agree customer support is not helpful and I agree with the other user shame on Google for releasing a product that was obviously not ready to go to market

How in the world can this thread be considered "solved?"  This is horrible.  I am having these same issues, also using Google's own mesh router.

Hi everyone,

I know this is an old post, but it seems like we're still getting some traffic here. After reading everyone's responses, it looks like everyone's set up is a bit diverse. If you haven't done so already, please check out our Troubleshooting your Stadia experience page to see if any of the suggestions there help improve your connection. I know that is a general catch all for everyone, but if you can confirm that you have gone through those steps, it allows us to cross the basic ideas off the list.

If anyone still needs support afterwards, please reply back here and we can look into further steps.

Thank you,

James
