RTS Games on Stadia

Will RTS games become available on Stadia? We have a huge advantage in that we can play on any device, I would love to play Rome 2 Total War on my laptop! Really any good RTS would be awesome.

@Dawsomeness : Darksiders is about the only RTS currently available on Stadia unless you include FF XV in that list too.

No reports on Rome 2 or anything published by Sega yet on Stadia to the best of my knowledge, unless someone else knows something already?

Kudos appreciated if deserved.

Darksiders isn't an RTS though, nor FFXV.

He's thinking games like total war, starcraft, company of heroes, warhammer 40K, etc

That would be nice to see one of these.

Exactly Nilas! I could definitely go for everything you just mentioned haha. One of my old favorites was the Homeworld series.

Indeed, RTS is a chambre that should become part of the portfolio. Age, Starcraft or titles like "They are Billions" would attract people in their 30s and 40s that simply grew up with RTS. These people have the funds but oftenly not the willingness to invest into a Gaming PC. But spending a few Bucks each Month, fits well with into their spending structure for Prime, Netflix, Disney +, etc. anyway. Looking forward to a reply from the community or even the Google Staff.

Take care
S.

Or the Command & Conquer remake that is getting released tomorrow.

Would be awesome if it's on Stadia.

@Mad_Dog_Bravo I do not think Darksider is a RTS.

My belief is that an RTS is a game with some base / city building and strategy like :

  • Company of heroes (Loved it)
  • Halo wars (bad but still)
  • Command and conquer (Loved C&C General)
  • Cossacks European war (Loved it)
  • Rome
  • Total annihilation (My geek friends were heavily into it)

And I do believe Stadia should get more RTS, it is one of my favorite genre ever since I tried the first Command and Conquer on Sega Saturn

We really really need this.  Nothing would cement stadia as a true alternative to console AND PC as much as that.  I’m told you can hook up keyboard and mouse too so I say bring it on! PLEASE!!!!

This is pretty much the only thread I've responded to on this forum because I couldn't agree more! I'm in the age bracket that a previous poster mentioned, (35-45) and am playing on my Google Pixelbook. Its amazing how great games play on this thin little guy, BUT I really can't rock out with any FPS because the Pixelbook's keyboard is just not the optimal setup for that. Could I get a controller and/or expanded keyboard? Probably, but I pop this thing open and play whenever my young kids are down for a nap or for an hour or so when my exhausted wife and I put them to bed.

RTS games have some serious advantages when it comes to people like me with very little free time:

1. Most are very forgiving about pausing and saving at any point in the game.

2. Even many turn-based combat RTS games can just be left to hang on your move for a loooong time until you can get back to it.

I'm basically biding my time with EOS until BG3 hits this platform, but would love to see any of the Shadowrun games, Total War games, Fallout games (okay, yes those are more like open-world and yes they are FPS-ish, but it can be such a quiet solo experience and allows quicksave, so, meh), original BG games.

Hell, I don't know why Stadia doesn't just pickup a bunch of older RTS titles like Freedom Force, Homeworld, Age of Empires, Starcraft, Earth 2150....the list could go on and on.

Completely agree. Anno 1800, Age, C&C, Rome, any of these RTS greats would be awesome on Stadia. Lack in variety of games is one of the few pain points I have with Stadia. Get us some strategy games or city sims and take my money Google!

This thread was started in January. 7 to 8 months later, has there been any improvements? I'd love the C&C reboot - or even the Age of Empires franchise (unlikely since IIRC Microsoft owns these games.)

Games like Anno 1800 and the new the Settlers game would be great for Stadia. So you don't have to buy or upgrade you PC to enjoy the beautiful graphics

I totally agree. I'm loving Stadia right now but I feel a little bit frustrated too since it doesn't touch the core of my video gaming interests, i.e. Grand Strategy, RTS, Total War, Hack'n Slash, etc.

Stadia at this moment requires that every game on the platform supports a controller and this is a huge limitation because it makes Stadia a strong alternative to consoles but not yet to gaming rigs. I hope they will add a separated section for Mouse and Keyboard only games soon. I could invest more money in games and way less in hardware upgrades.

For now I will be happy playing Sekiro optimally on a 2015 Macbook Pro with a Nintendo Switch controller. Enough said.

It's not a huge limitation. The Humankind demo was perfectly playable with a controller, and all they'd done there was map mouse controls and selected hotkeys over the top of it.

good controller interface - and by that I mean good for competitive play - needs some work, but a functional controller interface isn't that difficult to integrate.

Yeah, I really think Stadia is focusing on the gamepad experience more, but RTS, citybuilder and turned based game - even old ones - would have me signed for life. And yes I'm absolutely in the 30/40 range. Ah... the nostalgia and lack of reflexis for those FPS multiplayer.

Has anyone played Into the Breach yet?

I'm an older gamer too and while I enjoyed games like Quake & Counter Strike, my jams were RTS - AOE, Warcraft III, Starcraft, C&C and C&C Red Alert et cetera.

Nowadays I'm guessing I'd not be as good at Starcraft/Warcraft because the APM (actions per minute) I'm capable of has certainly decreased - I find myself running out of time ALL the time in Hearthstone Battlegrounds. My "micro" isn't as strong as it once was.

I'd still love to play those kinds of games (RTS) on Stadia to play w/ other friends also a bit older - and my kids so they can know what it is like to play real games :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Now that I think about it, the last game I was obsessed w/ and played on PC was way back before we had our first child - DOTA - I'm talking about the original DOTA that was just a mod in Warcraft 3.

IIRC, DOTA generated its own genre,no? MOBA or something - any Stadia games like that?

I can't tell you how fun it was to play Humankind using the Stadia controller during lunch break at work on my Chromebook. I've also started Destiny 2 - but I feel like an old man playing that game - the hardest part is remembering all the key mappings.

Having babies in your 40s wrecks your brain & your response times. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Into the Breach is an "I'm waiting in line" or "pooping" game for me. I mean, is nice but not something that engages me besides those moments. I Really appreciated Humankind tho, even if some mechanics really eluded me, maybe I was comparing it too much with CIV or not really trying hard to understand it since it was just a weekend trial.

As for the rest, I don't think we'll be seeing any MOBA soon on stadia, as long as they don't enable a cross-platform with PC/console player, the matchmaking would be impossible. You can't find anyone in multiplayer games, beside maybe Dead by daylight. Even PUBG they had to cut down the mouse and keyboard queue cause no one was actually playing it, it was just 99 bots and a human.

I think it's a problem of latency, dunno if they can properly handle a cross platform frot that angle yet.

As far as I know is humankind in pre-order. I ordered it. This is a Civilisation kind of game. But Age if Empires or Cossacks would have my vote.

Happy 2021 everyone!

Company of heroes 3 is just announced for pc. Maybe us RTS fans should contact the developers to ask if they think about porting? I already did. Let's hope for it
