I was just thinking of this over the last couple of days. Could Stadia expand to VR platforms like Oculus Quest? Standalone VR is a great entry for more casual gamers and it would be really neat if I could load up the Stadia app in VR and launch something like Star Wars Squadrons or Half Life Alyx (however unlikely the latter is)
Is this even something that's technically possible? Would founders with VR use this if it existed?
I think VR should be in the future. Definitely.
I think this is a real possibility.
Now it is often pointed out (correctly) that lag between moving your head and the image changing is critical in VR, so people say cloud based VR is unlikely.
Imagine stadia generating an 8k video stream with a large FOV. The headset then renders a fraction of this, responding very quickly to movement of the headset by sliding the "window" to be rendered across the 8k stream. The 8k stream just plays catch-up. This would give very fast response to a users head moving as long as it didn't move too fast and fall outside of the generated FOV. And because the headset isn't generating the video but just concentrating on motion and moving the video, it could be snappier than current local VR systems.
Would probably need like 8G for that.
they should first let me stream directly on YouTube. as promised a long time ago.
