My problem with Stadia

I talked about it long ago. I like stadia, the service is incredible and allows me to play things that otherwise would be unattainable for me with the old pc I have. This is why I bought games on the staff and I continue to do so, for this I pay the subscription and I will continue to pay for it.
But I sincerely hope that in time the biggest problem with the staff will be solved. I hope so much.
In my opinion the biggest problem currently is the high compression of the stream.
The game works great for me, fluid and responsive without ever an indecision. the network icon is always fixed on "excellent".
But when it's dark the shades in almost all games are pixelated.
And that's a really bad thing to see. I booked Cyberpunk but I kinda fear this problem because cyberpunk has very dark and gloomy settings.
The shades in lighting and dark corners are always coarse. You understand that you are watching a video stream and I'm sorry.
Does this happen to you too?
I'm talking about PC with chrome .. because on TV with chromecast this problem is less noticeable. but with the pc it is annoying
I put a screen to make you understand.

Could be because you're sitting close to your monitor and the compression artifacts are more noticeable when viewed up close than on a TV where you typically sit farther away. Or it could be a codec issue, make sure the stream is using VP9 and not H264/AVC. Usually VP9 is opted for automatically if you have a 4K display and compatible hardware that supports VP9 hardware decoding. There might also be a way to force VP9 in case you don't have a 4K display or VP9 supported hardware. In the future once Stadia switches to AV1 and hardware that supports AV1 decoding becomes more common, the quality of the stream ought to improve even further.

ok ... I can't use VP9 because it's not supported by my monitor or video card ... but playing with these artifacts greatly affects the enjoyment of the game.
I am very sorry that there are these problems because I have focused a lot on Stadia .. and instead I find that Geforce Now in terms of compression and video quality is often much better. and, repeat, I'm very sorry about that.

in this screenshot i have an excellent connection (with lan cable) and the game is very fluid and responsibe... but it looks like a game from 20 years ago

You can force VP9 with a unofficial Stadia+ extension for Chrome.

It will use your CPU for the load.

I am afraid I am out of options.

You are running at 4K with VP9.
That's the best it can get with Stadia at the moment.

Did you try other games with a lot of dark places?
Or is this with all games alike?

Did you try playing on the Chromecast Ultra (if able) and check it has the same kind of artifacts?

I am happy with my Stadia in experience to be honest these issues I'm not concerned with them as much, but I am curious if these issues could be the displays dynamic range on tv or monitor. Or possibly do these artifacts exist on another platform or only on Stadia basically is it the game ?

I have no experience and mean no offense if I'm totally wrong this is coming from a player that even puts gamma balance quite high when playing as I find it hard to seen in some game environments ? Lol happy gaming hope it gets better for you.

See you in Stadia.

On Star Wars even with chromecast the artifacts are there. obviously on TV they are less noticeable but they are seen.
I tried with other games, in short some better but for now GHos Recon Breakpoint, Star wars jedi fallen order, Gylt and Red Dead Redemprion 2 have this problem. I don't remember the others.

Ok looks like a compression issue if so.

I must admit I never noticed it. :grinning_face_with_sweat:

uff ... ideas on how to solve? I change driver, I change settings on chrome ... the problem is that, slightly, I also notice it on the chromecast but I have no line problems (as demonstrated on the Stadia + monitor)

On further inspection on my OLED I don't notice it at all although maybe I need better eyes, but other smaller LED TV is prominent enough to see pixelation in dark areas, but maybe a different issue to what you are having but thought I'd mention it.

anyway, you all confirm that you also see these defects on the screenshots I posted and that they are not normal. Can you confirm that it is different from what you see? it doesn't happen to you right?
can someone send me their own screen so that I can understand the difference and how it should be?

On my PC monitor it's definitely bad looking, very cloudy and the black looks bad on my big TV with better blacks it's nowhere near as bad but the issue if it bothers you that is, is still there.
