Pre-launch we were told that ALL stadia games would run in 4K 60 FPS if our internet connections are fast enough.
Vice President of Google @MrPhilHarrison tweeted on the 9th of October:
"Yes, all games at launch support 4K. We designed Stadia to enable 4K/60 (with appropriate TV and bandwidth). We want all games to play 4K/60 but sometimes for artistic reasons a game is 4K/30 so Stadia always streams at 4K/60 via 2x encode"
I bought Assassin's Creed and it's only 30 FPS on Chromecast. Doesn't look like 4K either. Reports and reviews show that hardly any of the launch games fullfilll the promises made by Google. I believe there must be a good reason for this. Maybe it's a planned limitation in the launch period to avoid an embarrassing system crash? Or maybe something (more) went wrong? Either way I hope there will be a quick fix!
Could please someone from Google comment on this? @GraceFromGoogle
When will it be fixed? I don't want to believe it was just a lie....
Other than this I'm satisfied with the product. Input lag is acceptable, but if fidelity is only on par with XBox One S and PS4 you have a.serious problem!
Ditto! We need some info about this. What happened to 4K 60?
I don't think ANY games runs at 4k and 60 FPS at the same time.
I sure hope so and I know there is tons of people watching this VERY closely.
I truly think whatever google studios is working on for a first party game will be the first true 4k/60 game that exhibits the full power of STADIA and it's features, I don't think we will get that with a 3rd party game yet.
This!
4k 60 fps is why I preordered Stadia. My ps4 pro can already do 4k 30 fps with HDR. My gaming pc can do 80+ fps in 1440 p. None of them manage 4k with 60 fps. You basically need a 1500 dollar rtx 2080 ti for that...but somehow I believed Google had some magic up their sleeve that made it possible on Stadia. If it turns out thats not the case, and that Stadia is basically below current gen consoles in terms of grapchical performance, rather than on par with a powerful gaming pc...then all stadia appeal is totally gone for me. Wich is sad, cause I was totally stoked about this ![]()
Same, I agree, I backed Stadia with the promise of it being "the most powerful gaming platform" and everything would be Ultra settings... Yet Red Dead Redemption 2 runs at 1440p30 with the same graphic settings as Xbox One X BUT XBX runs native 4k30??? Wth Google, where's all this power you were bragging about?
This is a fair question. I am impressed with Stadia so far, especially the lack of input lag - but 4K 60FPS was very clearly stated, frequently, before launch.
I haven’t seen a single game reach this benchmark yet. Just some small assurance from Google that things are still early and will improve would be appreciated by many people, I think.
I also expect the games to run higher than medium settings, that's not going to fly with Next gen consoles coming December next year. Stadia will be far behind at that point if they don't increase the graphic settings.
Honestly, I expect Google to announce a Stadia Ultimate subscription for about $20 a month that will include Ultra/Max graphics settings for all games and access to their entire library of games similar to Uplay+ or Origin Access. This is going to be a tiered service and Google knows nothing if not how to monetize a product.
I agree with all the above, this was a big selling point for me. Hopefully it is just teething troubles.
No publicly available release schedule was made yet, although based on feedback from Google 11 days ago, they did indicate the following https://www.reddit.com/r/Stadia/comments/dvv3tv/hi_reddit_andrey_from_the_stadia_team_here_and_im/ :
I've included some of the points below:
Features availability. Our approach to releasing features on Stadia is similar to how we run Google Search, YouTube and other Google services: gradual rollout and continuous improvement, based on your feedback. We always start with nailing the key user-journey and then proceed with releasing extra features. YouTube started with “watch video”. For Stadia it’s “Play the Game on your biggest screen”. New features will start popping as soon as one week after launch. I expect the first game with Stream Connect to launch by the end of the year. The games that support State Share and Crowd Play will be released next year. And of course there are many more cool new platform features on the roadmap. We’re aiming to release new stuff weekly after 11/19.
We believe in common sense too! You can safely assume, we’ll stay competitive with other stores.
We haven’t announced the Pro game schedule yet, but will soon. But you should expect regular games. If you ask me, the lineup is pretty awesome and I don’t expect to run out of good stuff to play with as a Pro subscriber.
And no Stadia Connect before launch. I feel very much connected with you guys already ![]()
So, in a nutshell, we don't know when a bunch of these features are going to arrive, but we should start to see improvements on a week by week basis starting quite shortly based on the responses from Google 11 days ago.
