Hosting a personal Stadia Server?!

Jump to Best Response

Though I'm sure the Stadia team is being put to the grinder as Stadia rolls out over the next couple weeks, I have a question that I've been thinking about since the initial announcement of this incredible project. No doubt, this marks a major milestone in cloud-based services! However, there remains a sector in the market for which there really has never been a solid solution. Those of the community that wish to stream content off of their beefed up PCs! Nvidia, and other's have come forward with some solutions to this problem, but I would love to see Stadia take on this challenge. My question: Is it possible to package Stadia technology, and deploy to personal PC's? I want my own PC to serve processing over the wire to whichever device I want, from wherever I want using Stadia. Is it possible?

Based on Ivan's suggestion, I got in contact with some Stadia team members on whether this was currently possible, or if it was in their plans. Currently, it's not a feature that Stadia supports. However! Those that I spoke to seemed hopeful and confident that this is a feature that might land on a road map for Stadia development based on customer feedback! So in other words, if you're interested in this feature being something that Stadia supports out of the box, do as Ivan suggests and submit a feature request! Feel free to point your request to this thread for brevity. Thanks all!

I feel like we're still too early with regards to use Stadia technology for personal use. That's a very cool idea though and something I'd like to see at some point in the future Have you got your activation code yet? From the app, there's an option to send Feedback to Google. That's probably the best way to make sure your suggestions are listened by them.

Stadia Guides are not employed by Google. Opinions are my own.

That's an awesome idea. I hope they implement that later on.

Not gonna happen, defeats the purpose of their entire service really doesn't it. Steam already has such a feature FYI.

@sirsquid Not necessarily. It's just leveraging Stadia's technology to get the most out of your equipment. Eventually perhaps no one will have a need for a GPU, everything will be cloud based, but that is certainly not the case at the moment. For those that don't have the equipment to run their own games at 4k or whatever, then Stadia is there for them. And if you're referring to Steam Link, that is limited to a local network. Similar to Nvidia's Shield product.

You're a bit out of date, Steam Link was expanded to go anywhere.

You're missing the point, Stadia has the technology already developed to package for personal use, that is a feature that I'm interested in having, along with countless others. If Steam Link Anywhere can do it, certainly Stadia can match that feature parity
