Hi,
Having a big library of games on Stadia using CC ultra can be a pain to sift through the menu looking for the right game so i tried using google assistant to launch the game.
It worked a few times but now it doesn't load any games eventhough the assistant confirms my command
Is there a way round this or a fix please?
Cheers
@Lankiebd can you check if your Chromecast is up to date on the latest version? Also when you said it doesn't work, what actually happened? Did you see any error message or any behavior?
For reference here's the support page for setting up Google Assistant with Stadia. Can you take a look and make sure it's set up correctly?

Hi Ivan,
Yeah I've checked my settings and its all set up correctly.
No error messages. I'll say for example "Play red dead redemption 2" and it will appear on screen and reply "ok, starting red dead redemption 2" and that's it. It stays up on screen and doesn't do anything
Hi @Lankiebd I just tried it myself and getting the same result as yours. Let me do some investigating and I'll get back to you if I find anything.
@Lankiebd Ok after experimenting a bit, I managed to get it to work. Here's what I did.
Also when you try, can you let me know which games you try to launch? In my case I'm able to launch most games, but there are a few games that basically just don't launch and return Google results like World War Z.
The method above works for me. Can you try it and see if it works? If it doesn't work, please report back and we can troubleshoot further.
Nope, it comes up with "Sorry, that can't be done on this device"
This is strange as it worked a few weeks ago for me
@Lankiebd Can you tell us which game you were trying to launch? I'm currently in a discussion with a few other folks and it seems some games aren't enabled for voice activation.
Also, in general using "... on TV" works but you can also try "... on <name of your Chromecast device>" and see if it works.
Part of my troubleshooting this morning, I actually had to add the Chromecast account to my device because for whatever reason it got disconnected. Can you check from your Stadia app, tap on your icon on top right, tap on "Add Account to Chromecast", do you see any unregistered Chromecast device? If yes, please register that first and try again.
I think in this case it's just about trying out different things, since it seems some things have changed with the way voice activation works, because according to support page, saying "play <game>" should work, but it's not working in most cases.
I would advice you to submit feedback, but in all honesty I'm still not quite sure what the actual issue is...
I tried to launch Red Dead Redemption 2, Destiny 2, and FIFA 22.
Yeah i've tried other ways and its just not working. Im going to try a factory reset on my CC ultra to see if it changes anything.
My account is on my Chromecast, and have tried removing and re-adding.
Its not a massive thing but its just for the convenience, and I have submitted feedback to Google about this
Thank you for trying to assist though!
Hi @Lankiebd,
I have been following along and I tried something that sounds weird which was with the google assistant using the stadia controller on a Chromecast Ultra. I said "Play [insert game title] on [insert Chromecast device name]" even though the chromecast Ultra I wanted to play on was the same device I was using the assistant on.
Let me know if that helped launching a game at all
Hi
Tried this and it came up with the same error message - "Sorry, that cant be done on this device"
Its getting a little frustrating now, so hopefully google patch it soon
@Lankiebd So the fact that it gave you "Sorry, that can't be done on this device" is different from your previous experience, when it was just doing nothing. It's really weird that it's giving you that message though since it's quite a generic command.
Sorry if I'm asking too much, but would it be possible to record a video of the experience? I'm beginning to get really curious now. If not possible, I understand. And thanks for submitting the feedback, hopefully the team can diagnose what's going on if it's really a bug.
Hey Stadians,
First off just really wanted to thank both @Ivan and @ShadowKnight for their help on this post. They really are awesome Stadia Guides! @Lankiebd, we also want to apologize that you have been having this issue. We understand how frustrating this must be. Were you able to, by any chance, record the issue that you are having? Having a bit more info may help us figure out what might be going on here. Keep us posted when you can.
Thank you,
James
Hi all,
I haven't the chance to record but what I mentioned is literally what happens. I use Google assistant directly from my Stadia controller on a Chromecast Ultra plugged in directly to my tv with an ethernet connection. I asked it the examples above and it responds "Ok, starting <game name>". Thats it, the game doesnt start and its like the assistant has gone brain dead. The text is showing on screen stays on screen, but it can be cancelled with no issue.
Its just a strange glitch
Thanks
Hi @Lankiebd,
Sorry for the delayed response here. Thank you for giving us all of the details. We do have a couple of questions that we'd like to double check. This may sound strange, but you mentioned that your CCU is connected via ethernet. Could you try this same behavior with a wifi connection?
Also have you had a chance to reach out to our support team yet? Keep us posted with how this is going when you can.
Thanks,
James
Hey folks,

Hi again,
Going to close this thread now. Please feel free to create a new post if anything else comes up. We'd be more than happy to help.
