I thought the same thing, appreciate the founders get the little 3 stars icon after their name, so assumed that non-founders would not have the stars, didn't think the ugly numbers would be bolted on too. Makes scoreboards and names in general look really ugly.
Would love it if the numbers could be hidden within games to tidy things up, but alas I don't see this happening.
If Google would ever change that, what would have been the reason then to be a founder? The unique name without any numbers was one of the selling points of the Founder's edition (and also the founder's badge, which are these three little stars).
I can understand though why everyone who bought a Premiere edition, would love to have the numbers gone too, but the selling point of the Premiere edition was not about the name it was to be able to join Stadia asap at launch.
As I am using Discord as well, I think the number-system in general is not too bad. It avoids usernames like "Legolas" in 20 different written forms (Légólás, Lêgôlâs, etc.), therefore you can just have the name and the number can be used from friends to identify which account is actually correct. But yeah I agree when it comes to scoreboards or anything it might look a bit ugly to see the names with the numbers there.
So basically the logic is; make everyone suffer but slightly relieve the suffering as a reward to founders?
They still have to look at the ugly numbers as well - the scoreboards are ugly and literally makes you feel like your playing with players who don’t care about their name; typically players who are not committed to gaming.
The numbers create an atmosphere that makes Stadia look like a non competitive platform. It’s hardly a perk to have no numbers after your name - it’s more of a community issue. Give them a cookie or a star after their name etc.
Agreed. The argument from the Founder position is nonsensical. Stadia needs people to stay, and every small gripe that the player base has, especially in comparison to PS/Xbox, is the difference between staying and going. I think it is a very foolish system and one that could have easily been avoided.
I think they should remove them from the public also and just be used for adding to friends list ect (kinda what Activision does). That way founders keep their unique names that no one else can use
As people said: only founders have no numbers and to be honest: this was a big reason for me to get a founders edition. If they scratch this beneift they better come with something else for us founders,
Agreed - it was a selling point which is what has given the stadia community these abominable scoreboards but now they have basically contracted with all of the founders.. they are going to have to come up with some sort of alternative for dedicated founders!
I can imagine the guy who proposed this idea in the boardroom... obviously the stadia team are slightly disconnected with gamers to the degree they don’t understand numbers after names irritates a large portion of the gaming community.
Just me that really couldnt care less about a few numbers after my username?
Anyway, OP, I think your question has been answered above, hasn't it?
Oh yeah not a fan either, doesn't make me feel connected to the platform at all and makes me feel like just a number.
I mean look at my username, Google makes me a number so call myself user5060.
