Hello All,
Did I miss this while Stadia subscription was initially advertised or I got misunderstood?
What is the Subscription given me extra?
Currently we have access only to the games that are added monthly (Destiny 2 and Samurai Shodown), I had the impression that paying the subscription on the monthly bases we would be able to play all games on library as paid membership service.
As far as I can tell, I will pay ~$13 for getting 4k content + a game (of not my choice) + the possibility to pay a little less on selected games?
What that differs from a non-subscription will be what? nothing? If I pay for a game I can play no matter what, with subscription or not. So what is the point?
Thanks
Without a sub you will not have the ability to stream @ 4K.
I also understand your subscription will have access to other games somewhat akin to PS+ monthly games
That said, I dont think you got the wrong end of the stick. I think Google were relatively vague on what was going to be part of the subscription model until more recently.
@F1PaceCar I'm curious where you got the info that by having pro subscription you will get full access of the library. Google has been very transparent since the beginning that it wasn't the case. But then again, I've been following Stadia news very closely since the beginning.
Do you have any source where you get that information? Because you're not the first person to brought this up and it's really misleading.
As of now from the Pro subscription, you get selected games that you can access without buying the game, but you'll lose access once the Pro membership expired. You also get to play in 4k, and also discounts on selected games. This is no difference compared to what Sony do with the PS+ membership (don't own Xbox so can't speak for that).
Some people might think this is worth it, some may not. Personally I'm on the fence now. Once my 3 months Pro sub is up, I'll evaluate the games that are included and decide if I want to keep Pro or switch to Base
Hi @Ivan ,
Yes, it is true that is not written somewhere. But often on their promotional videos they would state that there we would have access to a growing library of games and able to play them on demand.
So, that is kind of playing with words at the same time. Somehow that may lead me to understand that they would be an association between the subscription and the game library.
I have also noted that some of their interviews to magazines and reviewers, they mentioned that it was not a Netflix style.
So, my question stands. What are we getting on top of the subscription.
If I want to buy a game, on Stadia or other platform there will be no difference (as a non-subscriber). So what is main goal of the subscription?
@F1PaceCar So here's what I can found from the help page
What's Stadia Pro?
With Stadia Pro you can play in up to 4K at 60 FPS with 5.1 surround sound and get discounts on game purchases. It also includes access to an ever-expanding library of games. You’ll have the best Stadia experience with Stadia Pro.
So if you just want to buy a game, and don't care about the "free" games, Pro discounts, and 4K, then yeah you'll be better off staying with base. I personally don't own 4K TV or display, so I don't really care about this feature. I'm going to monitor the offered games and how good the discounts will be before deciding to stick with Pro or switch to Base.
I agree though, the term 'ever-expanding library of games' can be a bit vague. But they never said anything about full library, and in a way 'ever-expanding' is kinda true. At first it was announced Destiny 2 Collection was going to be included, and now we also have Samurai Showdown. I guess the best thing for us to do when statements like this are made is to do more research rather than making our own assumption. For some reason it just never registered with me that we'll be getting full access to the game library.
"So what is main goal of the subscription?"
Access to 4k streaming. Discounts on the store and access to the free monthly game (and any that you have already acquired whilst being a subscriber). If you don't want any of that, don't subscribe after the 3 free months and just go with their free platform that gets you 1080p streaming and a normal prices on games.
Well, there is a difference - in that only subscribers have access to 4K/60FPS. That is the main selling point of sub Vs no-sub. So, if you are used to playing games at this better resolution and framerate, well ... Stadia-basic will be a big step back for you.
You still get 60fps on the free one at 1080p, just not 4k. Heres the comparison image.
I was also under the same assumption. An ever-growing library implies that it is a library at the start, but two games can't be considered a library. At least chuck in some old/indy games so there are a few more options - some multiplayer or fun stuff. I bought Stadia because I thought it would suit me as a not too serious gamer. It would be good to have something like Netflix to dip into when I have the time with family and friends. Just my two cents.
I have one message for this thread.
Read before you buy.
They were very, very clear on this from the start.
Also I see people talking about monthly a free game. As far as I know they never said monthly they said regularly. This is not a defined period of time so don't expect it to be monthly.
I too got duped by the subscription service model expectations. I was under the impression it was the netflix of gaming, I see that it is not. I will be honest, I purchased on a whim not doing a lot of research, it was just was I was seeing on the net.Hopefully the games included in the sub will increase but right now I am not too impressed and fail to see what makes this different than Xbox or playstation. It looks to be just another gaming service, nothing special - games are just as expensive and less people on the platform will cause it to struggle. They are already putting out disclaimers on internet suggestions such as do not have anything else streaming while playing to get out ahead of what will probably be laggy game play. I was an early adopter of chromecast and it definitely had growing pains. Hopefully it turns out great and not some half baked attempt like wear OS. I love google but they can be a bit spastic with the things they do. I am very disappointed that this is not more like monthly netflix service for gaming, i guess that model is cost prohibitive for gaming.
