Feature request - Family Sharing restrictions and enabling games backwards

Hello!  Long time Founder, first time posting here.  Our family has been enjoying Stadia from day 1(ish) and I'm long over due for setting up my 8yo son's account.

I'm now setting up family sharing and disappointed to see how its been implemented.  I like how you can filter content per ESRB, however, I cannot enable games that are outside of the preferred ESRB.  For instance, again, he is 8yo so I'd like to set the ESRB as restrictive as possible at E, but I do want him playing his current favorite game Terraria.  To get him access to this game, I'd need to crank it up to T, which potentially gives him access to all sorts of stuff.  I should be able to ENABLE any game for him rather than needing to potentially give him access to content and then disabling it.

Could I just setup family sharing to disable all access and then enable the games I want him to play?  Yeah sure, but then I'd need to do that per person on my family plan.  I guess if youre going to goto the hassle of creating an ESRB filter at all, then it should function as I suggest.  The way it is now almost makes it useless should you want to be more selective.

I'm sure no one who can do anything about this will see this post, but at least I can say I put it out there.

Hi @funkula,

The family sharing option is a bit strange implemented at some times.
You are right about the rating system but you can always revoke access one game at the time.

Strangely I only found this possible within the Family Link app on my Android phone.
If you open this Family Link app you can select your childs account.
Go to Settings --> Manage --> Stadia --> Review Games

Now you will see the list with all the games your child has access to, you can now revoke access for each game seperate.
I set my childs rating to higher 18+ but each time he want to play a game above his age I am getting a approval for the game.
Until I approve the game he is not able to play it, works pretty good.

Difference with setting it to E or T is that the games don't show with a higher rating. If you set it 18+ your child will see all the games, but when wanting to play he or she has to ask your permission to play. :smiling_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Hope this clears things up a bit. Still be sure to send your feedback to the Stadia team by using the Feedback option within the Stadia app or stadia.com.

I'm not entirely certain you fully read my post or stating exactly what I don't like about the process in the hopes you'll get Kudos.

Everything you mention doing is exactly what I don't like about the process.  By setting your child's content to 18+, your nullifying the point of access by rating.  I'm saying its a feature they implemented in the wrong way. As a parent, I want the peace of mind that by setting a rating I know generally he'll be safe with whatever content I purchase for myself, or get free from my pro sub, but then I'd like to allow him content based on what I deem appropriate.  Doing it the we mentioned is basically self evaluating each game.

As a gamer, I can ultimately handle this as I have been already when allowing him to use my account. I'm just trying to affect positive change on a processes they've rolled out.  This feature is done improperly and should be updated. As a "Gold Stadia Guide" perhaps you have suggestions on how to deliver feedback to the Stadia team.

Also here is the link for managing game access via the family link website.  https://stadia.google.com/families then click on the user/child.

Hi @funkula,

I did read your post and noticed your suggestion about whitelisting games, instead of let the child request access for each game. As I mentioned in my post share your suggestions with the Feedback option within the Stadia app or stadia.com. This will be send to the Stadia team.

Also I am not doing this for the kudos  I just wanted to share my workaround for your suggestion. This way the child cannot play the games you don't allow which gives the same end result: you as a parent decide which game your child is allowed to play. And with the Family link app you can still allow and revoke access on game to game level. :slightly_smiling_face:

But I do understand your suggestion which is more controlled as parent.
