Family sharing and co-op

Jump to Best Response

So if we are a family with two kids, say we wanted to play one game on different locations with family account, that does not work, just like a simple online Gaming with the wife does not work if we dont have the bought the game on our 3 locations? Is it not stupid to have to buy a game 3 times just to play it with each other? Like riders republic for example.. totaly bull.. i dont get it

@Seamonk If the game support local co-op, then you can play the game together with the same screen. I think it's unfortunate that a lot of games these days rarely support local co-op anymore and focus more online experience, but like what others have said, it's basically the same thing as playing a game in multiple screens. Everyone need to have a separate copy of the game.

I'm not sure about your situation, but think about college roommates that wants to play Call of Duty together for example. Even though they live in the same apartment, if they want to play together, they need to purchase a separate copy of the game, two consoles/PC,. two different monitors. It's basically the same concept and not unique to Stadia.

Hi @Seamonk

The Stadia family gives the option to share the games with other family members.

This way it is possible to buy a game and let somebody else play the game within your family.

But if you want to play the same game multiple times at the same time you need more licenses of the game. So if you bought a game twice within the family at all time 2 family members can play the game at the same time.

So for a single player game or the fact family members don't always game at the same time family sharing is a great value. But if you want to play the same multiplayer game at the same time you have to buy the game multiple times.

Hope this helps. :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanx for the answer! Yeah i guess i just had i vision that it would work to co-op, both in online mode and couchmode for games that have that function but a bit of a bummer that you have to buy it twice…

It is designed in the same way as if you had a physical product at home, a TV, a remote, a movie, a disk, a computer... but allowing you to share it with your family even from a distance. At least unlike Steam it doesn't lock you out of the entire library, just that one game.

I would also like them to allow 2 copies at the same time, but, I understand... what I still don't understand is that there isn't a couch mode that allows you to play cooperative games on different screens, because it's sad that if you have a family member studying in another place or a friend in the distance you cannot play a game in local cooperative since many games do not have online... yes... cloud games that force you to play in the same physical place as your companions.

Hey Ivan, yes i see your point. In that regard i get it. Another smart thing would be then to have some sort of filter that could show you only the couch co-op versus online multiplayer and so on so you don’t have to go into every game on the list to try to figure out if it’s possible to play together or not…
