Family Sharing - General Question

Dear Stadia Community!

I received the news, family sharing is NOIW available, but I am not sure to really understand the concept and steps to set  it up

I on a pro account since the day Stadia became available in Germany and since this time I am waiting for an option to allow my son (15 years old) to login on his PC to stadia using his personal account and use the games from my Stadia library - I do not want my son to buy any additional games!

First of all: Is this now possible? What I do not want is to store my google credentials on my son's PC!!! And I do not want to add another Subskription for my son as well.

I went to my google account and send him an invitation (to his icloud addess) but he never received it - does he need an google account as well to be invited?

Can anybody provide more information on how to set family sharing for Stadia up, please?

BTW: Will it be possible to play games together - he on his PC and I on my TV using chromecast at the same time?

Kind Regrads,

Thorsten

Hey @Trollstone,

first of all, it's working like this: Family sharing means that you need to have a Google family, in which you can share your library. To be able to play those games, the family members need to have a Stadia account. Also as a family group manager you can approve for family members (especially children) which content rating they are allowed to play. You also need to add a family payment method in order to share your library, but you can also set supervising-settings, so that your beloved child/children can not just buy everything.

  • Supervised family group members, such as children under the age of 13 (or 16, depending on your country), must have a Google account set up for them by their family manager before they can be added to a family group. The family manager can also add supervision to a family group member's account if it's not already set up.

Also you don't have to be a Stadia pro member to share games, but if you are you can share all your claimed games as long as you keep up your subscription.

Here are some articles that helps understand all of this a bit better and also a step-by-step instruction on how to get Stadia work with kids and families:

As a little summary to your questions:

  • If you create an account for your kid and follow those instructions above (article: set up Stadia for kids and families), he would be able to play your shared games with his own account on his PC.
  • He cannot buy games, unless you allow this (check your supervising settings/purchase approval settings).
  • Your Google credentials will not be stored on your son's PC, the family payment method is of course part of your Google account, but if you set the approval settings correct, he can't buy any games with your family payment method.
  • You also don't have to add another subscription for your son, simply share either your whole library or only specific games when sharing Stadia games in the family. So you have control over it the whole time.
  • Regarding the family-invitation I guess he should receive it on his email address, but the invitation-accept-button should usually tell if a Google account is needed. As far as I understood, he needs a Stadia account to be able to play games, which means he needs a Google account.
  • Regarding playing games at the same time: If the game allows co-op you can sit both on the couch and play the game together (but you are logged in then with only one account). If the game allows online-multiplayer, you could play it together at the same time, if you have 2 licenses of the game, which means it needs to be purchased on your and on your child's account. Otherwise the shared game can only be played by one family-member at a time (unless they own it themselfes).

Hope this helps!
