This bug is still an issue. Going by the Sports Interactive forum https://community.sigames.com/topic/509912-wont-save/ (as posted by someone earlier), Stadia did put out a fix for this in April but it was not successful. So far Sports Interactive have not received an update on another fix. This is very disappointing, as others have said you get in to a game for a few seasons and can no longer save, or sometimes the save game file gets corrupted. I won't be playing the game until this is fixed and if it's not fixed soon I may ask for a refund.
I ve been thinking of buying this game on stadia, but this problem is a real game -breaker. On the SI forum they said they have not heard of stadia since ... That make me really worry how stadia handles his games/ problems.
I hope stadia could help this guys, and solve it, it would make me more likely to buy it on stadia.
I was three seasons in to a game and can no longer save. It's very frustrating, not only for people who can't save anymore, but also for people starting up new games, there's a good chance they'll run in to this issue.
I get that the devs at Google are busy, but that thread on the Sports Interactive forum was started in January so this has literally been an issue for half a year. This isn't some minor bug, people are losing progress on hours of gaming.
In addition, I don't know if it's because the bug has existed so long, or because Stadia doesn't make up a big enough chunk of their customer base, but Sports Interactive seem to have a pretty blasé attitude towards it now. The latest reply from one of the devs on June 8th read "We have had no contact from Google in the past 2 weeks. I have given them all the information I can regarding this bug, so I can only hope they're making progress.", which reads like "it's Google's problem now, we've done all we can". I would have expected them to be a bit more proactive since this is such a major issue.

This has just happened to me, I have a save I can load, but I simply cannot progress any further as it doesn't save. I've invested a lot of time into this save (in game says 17 days 22 hours, 44 minutes) so for all that to be up im a puff of smoke is pretty crappy really. The curious part is it happened exactly 15 years after my game career started (24th June 2019 with Rangers, died 24th June 2034 with West Ham)"
Now my old working save doesn't even load, is it a stadia problem or an SI update problem?
It sounds like SI has reached a point of complete frustration over the lack of engagement from Stadia to fix it, but palming it to Google as 'we've done what we can, sorry' isn't going to do them any favours either.
I've been unable to play this game in effect since January due to this bug. Google dragging their feet and SI not making progress. Both pointing fingers and nothing getting sorted with customers stuck in the middle. I have completely lost faith in the game (my main driver for Stadia) and won't be sinking more into the platform. The joy of a new FM game is totally gone.
If by some miracle it's fixed in the next few months it'll be time for FM 2021 and effectively this game was £40 down the drain. They won't refund it either, as it's outside the refund window. To the Stadia team the fact you can't save or load on random (but ongoing) occasions doesn't constitute a reason for a refund.
It also makes me reluctant to buy anything else, as it could happen on another title. Who knows?
Latest reply from one of the devs on the SI forum: "In terms of updates the most I can say is that both us and Google are investigating this issue. Due to the seemingly random occurrence/timing of this bug, it has proven to be hard to find examples with high reproduction and catch rates. This in turn means it's very difficult to pinpoint the cause.".
So the problem seems to be they cannot repro the issue. I have offered to upload one of my saves which is not loading anymore if it would help to provide insight on the issue, but got no response.
I've also lodged a ticket to Stadia about the issue, in fairness to them they have been contacting me about it, but will only say "we have escalated it and are looking in to it", they can't give me a timeline either.
If it is linked to the size of save game files (as @Meteiro suggests, it's a reasonable assumption to make), then surely this would still be an issue for FM 2021? It is disappointing, I bought Stadia just for Football Manager but it makes me hesitant to buy any more titles on the platform.

@chris this has been an issue for six months. I had hoped we would have found a solution by now and I could keep playing the game, however, as I'm sure you can appreciate, I've lost confidence in this issue being fixed. Are you going to offer refunds to people who are suffering from this bug?
Wow got the game recently and now I have this issue how is this even an issue it’s crazy seems it should have been fixed ASAP seen as it basically means you can’t play the game for its intended purpose
