Does Stadia use your Download Speeds or Upload Speeds?

Jump to Best Response

Hey all! I'm just curious as I don't completely understand the way Stadia works. Does Stadia use your download speed to play the games or does it use your upload speed to play games? I've seen everywhere it says you need at least 10mbps minimum to play games on Stadia, but I figure if you're streaming games, it would use your internets upload speed right? I couldn't really find a solid answer via google search and was wondering if anybody could possibly shed some light on how Stadia works as it's really impressive with how responsive everything is.

It uses both, but the requirements mainly are for download speeds. It downloads each frame to show on your screen, which is what the 10 mbit (720p) is for.
However, with 0 upload it won't work either, as it needs to receive your controller inputs so you can actually play the game. This doesn't need much bandwidth though, and lower amounts of upload speeds can be used for this.

The most important is what @DaBaldEagul already said.
Main is download because you are downloading the Stadia stream to your device.
The upload is used for sending the input device that is used. Otherwise the game doesn't know where you are moving or which button you press.

But what also is very important is the quality of your internet. It does need a stable internet with low latency.

I gotcha; I appreciate it fam! It definitely helps me understand the platform a lot better to be able to utilize it more effectively. Also, how do you go about getting the silver and or gold star badge on the forums? I'd like to help people out when it comes to Stadia as I'm beginning to invest a lot of time into it and becoming more involved with the forums in terms of posting questions and creating conversation.

Gotcha gotcha. Yeah I appreciate the information as Stadia is very unique and impressive with how responsive it is. I'm definitely investing a lot of time into it nowadays. Xfinity doubled the speeds for the current pre-paid plan we use and its allowed for me to utilize Stadia as if I'm playing locally on a Pc or console. Really cool product Stadia is. My bad for rambling, but I appreciate the information as its all very helpful :smiling_face_with_sunglasses::fire:
