Do you really want Cross-Platform Play?

Do you really want cross-platform play on Stadia?

Short Answer:

Nope. Hold the contamination please.

Long Answer:

I feel implementing cross-platform play could spell Stadia's demise, because it's purity and uniqueness would be compromised. Stadia's playerbase couldn't possibly benefit from adding the PC's higher FPS and abundance of cheats into the mix. Do you really want to arm wrestle someone with a bionic arm? I don't. Stadia gives each player the identical unmodifiable platform to see who's better at the game. The consoles can't even hang their hat on that anymore. Why? Cross-play, same generation multi-tiered hardware, and yup... even cheats. There's a real comfort in getting my ass kicked on Stadia just knowing it's the most level of playing fields.

Stadia, do Stadia.

I vote yes but as an in-game option.

I can see MMOs and co-op games benefit from this. When the input latency have been reduced further then competitive FPS and fighting games will be on a more level playing field. But who knows if the current state of Stadia can play competitively with local hardware if we don't try, that's why it's better to have it as an option.

Also the current state of the inconsistent internet speeds, if your friends can't sustain a constant reliable connection with Stadia at least you still can play together this way.

I'm gonna get down to the brass tacks now. I love Stadia in its current state for 2 reasons. It's unhackable, and has parity among all players. Based on the thread response: 80% want CPP, and 20% do not. Honestly that's disheartening to say the least. I'm really struggling to see Stadia's appeal if its level playing is compromised.

Stadia exclusive:
* Steaming? Nope
* Cross-Device Play? Nope
* 4k/60fps (cough)? Nope
* No Cheats? Yup
* Player Parity? Yup

We're talking about stream vs local play here people. PVP streamer lose badly. PVE streamer is likely Leroy Jenkins due to Stadia not hosting the CPP game.

If CPP is merely implemented, then Stadia breaks its "No Cheats, No Hacks" promise. Ah ah ah, wait... that's not true, you'll need to "opt in" to CPP first. Ahhh nope, I'll opt to turn on my PC, PS5, or XBSX, and sadly decimate Stadia players.

Fortunately, I haven't seen any official word from Stadia on this subject in a while. Last was in a press release before launch that mentioned they'd be open to discussing it with developers. But, 80% in favor of CPP is pretty decisive, and likely a taste of things to come. I'm not using Stadia to play against other platforms, I'm bad enough lol.

@ARGAH  said, "Stadia is like a LAN party" with all players on identical rigs, and no ability to cheat

Don't mess with that, you'll have nothing left.

Personally I am all for cross platform play.

I used it recently to play Modern Warfare on my Xbox One with a friend who was playing on PS4 and was awesome.

We are even able to chat in game. I think the more options, that gets more gamers playing together, the better in my opinion.

I know we will have lag when going into PvP with other console players but it’s still better than ha omg no one to play with at all. Destiny 2 is dead already since it’s lost impossible to find others online.

i bought GRID just to try out races with 40 people. Haven’t even found one single opponent yet. I would rather have the option to turn on cross platform play than having no one to play with. If somewhere down the line enough people buy Stadia, then I can turn it off if I want to.

I want cross-universe play aswell. And cross-dimension play.

I even want cross-game play. So that when I'm playing a racing simulation game. My friend can join the game and shoot fortnite rocketlaunchers at me from the grand stand. And then ofcourse I have to avoid them to win the race. And then before I can reach the podium to get my trophy, the refreshment room turns into an elder scrolls gladiators battle arena, where the host is using this arena as his personal starcraft 2 map, as the commander of zerglings who have to outnumber the driving champ his might, by mining goblins gamblers pocket gold. And then I have to whack-a-mole all the fake trophies, so that only the real trophy can remain. And then I have play a weight lifting championship simulation, to lift the trophy up. For the whole crowd to see, and 5 judges to score.

@Kold I hear a lot of destiny 2 is dead but it's fine for me, only non control modes are dead on pvp that is it and everyone who says it I look them up they played destiny a month or two ago, if you shared your activity history I assume you are playing regularly to come the dead assumption? Because anything an individual doesn't play is dead.

Anyway this Is an interesring topic, but I think that Google will enable cross-play for every game they can. The lack of players obstaculate the Stadia expansion, in my opinioni there are only 2 reason for the fact that cross-play Is not out yet.

1) They are not technically ready.

2) Commercial problems with other companies.

I think you are very right, i am playing destiny 2 time to time, and just noticed at home with very good connection, that sometimes the game has very small micro lags... that make you thing if Stadia really ready or not. MB in a year they will, but not now

Yes I wan't crossplay.  The only way to keep a platform alive in this Massive online gaming time is having more player available when you click "find a match" or "join a game" ...
Cross play is the best solution to that.

May be add a checkbox when "seraching for player" (X) Stadia only ... ?

anyway.  I think if crossplay is not implemented, Stadia will have difficulty to survive.  the gamming industry is in a big change,  Mass of player will be required to those who will survive.

Long live the Stadians!

Or you could allow it and each player could turn it on or off like every other system ever. I for one would love to play with my friends regardless of what system they have. I can't keep buying all the systems.

Now I don't know if those who commented on this post speak for hypotheses and theories or because they really tried the multiplatform.
I am playing cross-platform in PVE COOP in The Division 2 on Stadia and I must say that the difference between PC players and players is not seen in the least. Sure it's PVE, but the only difference is that PC players don't have StreamConnect and you can't see what they do.
Then I played Rainbow Six Siege on GeForce Now. By the nature of the platform you necessarily play cross-platform .. and I must say that I played well, and I made several kills on a game in which milliseconds are extremely important.
So I repeat the concept I said at the beginning: the cross-platform will help stadia make users play, as long as it does not have an important user base it is the only way to be able to play in PVP albeit with some minimal limitation.
Ghost Recon Breakdown for example is not multiplatform .. and at present it is impossible to play in PVP and this certainly brings disadvantages to the game, the manufacturer and Stadia.
Finally I tell you that it is still a sterile discussion because the cross-platform is not decided by Stadia but by individual publishers. In fact The Division 2 is the first cross-platform experiment for Stadia and I must say that it works great!

@FoxlukeITA My opinion has completely changed since earlier in this discussion, got worn down with waiting for players on destiny 2 so got division 2 and compete well in pvp and do decent but we are still at a disadvantage no matter how you look at it because of input lag, I’m a very competitive gamer when it comes to shooters and those milliseconds count.

That being said little disadvantage or nobody to play with, I will go with little disadvantage now.

I really made this post with FPS games in mind at the time. I bought The Division 2 to play on Stadia, but opted to spend my time playing Warzone on PS4 instead. PS4 implemented official kb+m support with the ability to disable crossplay which I'm always sure to do. Warzone banned around 50K PC players in their first ban wave, and with that news I'm more anti-crossplay with PC than ever. The consoles have large enough playerbase's to allow the option and still have enough non-crossplay players to fill matches at low wait times. Stadia doesn't have that luxury and to top it off The Division 2 added PC only crossplay...wtf. The PC should be excluded from all crossplay endeavors period. I've strictly been a PC gamer forever, but with kb+m on consoles I won't be going back. I also challenge anyone who thinks kb+m has an unfair advantage on consoles to go give PS4 Warzone non-crossplay a try. The controller aim assist absolutely gives it the edge by a good margin, and I'm more than willing to except that than play one more minute against PC players. As for Stadia, I've lost hope on this front.

As someone with Google Stadia, I would love cross platform. Many of my friends do not have it (none in fact) and there are games I’d like to play with them. They cannot afford the stadia, but the have other consoles and/or PC to play on. If i can use my stadia to play with them, I would use it a lot more and even buy a lot more games to enjoy with them. With Stadia’s limited exclusive game library, there doesn’t seem like much of a reason for them to buy it on their own. However, a game library that gives you access to all the games you play instantly and sharing the experience with others would make for great marketing. When Stadia starts making exclusive games, then I may reconsider. As of now I think (as long as stadia can keep up) cross platform is almost essential to its survival.

honestly can not agree more. if we had crossplay even on console we would be getting **bleep** on. think of how many times you had to deal with input lag while using stadia. and god forbid you run into a pc player. prepare to be flicked, out played, or just out hacked tbh. love stadia and all but we are not ready for those problems

Crossplay is something I use a lot with Division.

I play with 4 Stadia players and 3 PC players. I mainly play cooperative games and really love to see more crossplay. Destiny 2 fails in that department so we dont play it.

We are not really competitive gamers so I have no issues with crossplay. Maybe it is a good thing to get selective crossplay for such games.

YES TO CROSSPLAY. of course monitoring and filtering is necessary but how cool will it be to play with any of your friends anywhere regardless of the platform they choose to use?

Personally I joined Stadia in hopes that CROSSPLAY would be a big part of community.

For me, make it optional.  You can allow cross play if you want to (would help with Raids on Destiny) or deny it to prevent cheats (Doom Eternal).

Not that hard to do from a technical perspective (relatively speaking).

Also, promote E-Sports on Stadia as the only platform worth considering.  You cannot add mods, hardware, software etc.  Its a completely level playing field.

Yes, I would rather have fast match making with the occasional (abundant?) cheater over not being able to really play or enjoy the games.

I wanna play against my aunt that has an Xbox.  She doesn't have the money to reinvest in Stadia and I don't want to switch platforms whenever I play against a different person.

If people are cheating, then don't play with them!   It would be easy to have a switch that limits who you can play against.

I think if it was implemented correctly, sure 100%.

I would love to replace my gaming system (I usually use PC but my friends all have Xbox) with Stadia rather than get the new Xbox. I am happy with the input lag if I am signing up for that and aware. It would mean I could play with my friends which is what is really making the Xbox win out over the Stadia long term.

Cuz everything else about it I think it great and it will only get better with time!

If stadia had more users and more games then I'd be fine without cross play. But there's not many people I know that know what stadia even is, nevermind owning one. Cross platform would make it so much more accessible as a valid platform.

Ummm yes I do want cross platform play, I haven't seen anyone make your point before and it is a good one, but I think there are a lot of people in my position where we want to play with friends but they are on Xbox, PS4 etc.

If it turned out cross platform caused issues for someone they should be able to turn it off or select which platforms they would like to cross play with.

But overall stadia is so new and has such a small player base that we need to be able to play with other people, I mean on F1 2020 there are never any online races for me.

Interesting discussion.

In my mind and what i believe stadia should do is focus on console owners.

There are maybe 200 million console owners out there split between the 3 major once (xbox, playstation, switch) and many of them are used to playing on a controller and also, a lot of them are now looking for a substitute to ps5/xsx since there is a huge shortage of units.

I speak from my own experience, if i could have gotten a PS5 i would'nt be here. Now that i found stadia i have no need for a ps5, sure maybe down the road (2 years or so) but as it is now i'm impressed with stadia and have decided to stick with it in the long run. Just hoping for a few competitive online shooters.

Anyway, as long as stadia is empty on the online part of games.. then yes, i support crossplay. But maybe more with the other consoles rather than pc. Or atleast an option to turn it off when playing with a controller and ccu. As it is now, i think that most of the newcomers are people that are coming from consoles. Just my guesses. And it would be fun to get some statistics from stadia on what device is most used when playing stadia. Maybe it used to be on pc and mobile? But since the best experience are supposed to be on wired ethernet and on a 4k tv (since Google Chrome is some what laggy and not as sharp and tablet/mobile are smaller screen) then i guess the biggest part of stadia gamers use a controller and therefore we get slaughtered against m/kb in crossplay.

Yk I don't mind but i've been playing destiny 2 with a controller and playing trials of osiris and any crucible matches, it's hard to win where you have people input is a kbm. They should have something like fortnite it matches you up with players based on your input.

I mean just let us toggle it on and off. I mostly play co-op games and not a lot of competitive games, so I'll always opt in for cross platform.

Thank you for this thoughts.

As I play Warzone on my Series X together with my brother (PC)and a friend (PC) I am matched against PC-Players and I very often (!) experience aimbotting (yes, I know the difference between skill and hacking) which is more likely done by PC players.

That frustrates me to a point where I do not want to play it anymore for days.

Keeping Stadia isolated means protection from cheating. That makes me love Stadia even more.

Could, by any chance, anyone tell us about crossplay in PUBG? How is that working out?

well, I think the cross playing is more for playing with friends who has other platform than yours. for example I bought Stadia bcse I am moving from place to place and this is very comfortable for me, but I cant play some games like Destiny 2 with friends, I have a friend with ps and other with xbox... so I think if there is a posibility to have a turn off/on botton so it would be very comfortble to have Stadia Only/ multiCrossplaying botton.

so everytime you want less players in the game, you take Stadia Only, if you want to play with your friends you can take cross playing.

or also a good option, is favourite crossplaying platform, like me, i have friends both in ps and xbox, so I could send them exclusive Stadia Community invitation, so only they could join Stadia server, playing from ps or xbox with me in stadia server

Yes. And include a way for the player to decide which platforms he wants to include when matchmaking.

Same goes for controller vs keyboard/mouse imho.
