Microsoft appears to be getting very serious with Project xCloud. Today, they have added Destiny 2, Halo: The Masterchief Collection, and many other huge titles to xCloud. Now, I am aware that those are currently invite-only. But with these releases, Microsoft is seriously considering making game streaming a complement to its Xbox and PC platforms. What kind of steps do you believe Stadia should take to compete against this gaming industry giant going after its market share?
@Streamer : Yeah didn't take them long to overtake Stadia with the number of games available, but xCloud is still in effect a closed beta at this point in time, but they have definitely expressed their intent. I'm happy to see that there is competition it can only be a good thing for the end users.
I wonder if the multiplayer experience is cross connected somehow, because if it isn't I can't imagine that there are that many players in a close beta...lol
I’d argue that Stadia in its current format is nothing more than an open Beta at this stage.
The first thing Google should do in response is provide more info. These first few months have been sparse in forthcoming information, users starved of facts, updates limited and the games library so thin beyond belief.
This is beta territory for sure.
We like 2 months in @Shadowdarck , remember when we had no internet and waited monthly for a magazine to release for info, give it time.
@Streamer I don't know if Google is trying to necessarily respond to what others are doing. I think they're trying to build Stadia into what they want it to be regardless of what others are doing. It's only been 2 months, I think there's a lot to come. And if you think Google is giving up already, they're not. The news today is that they've entered into a multi-year partnership with Activision Blizzard, for gaming and sports content. So this whole thing seems like it's still just starting, not ending.

Well said, now someone give that guy a cookie.
That would promote cannibalism! ![]()
All microsoft has to do is give their entire library for XCLOUD, so if you're already a member of the gamerpass all those games are included for free..just dismantle Stadia in one swoop.
It's why I keep stressing stadia needs to focus HARD on first party - they will not compete with X series or PSN when they do decide to turn that switch on.
I doubt you'll need a console to use it either probably just an XBOX account the only down factor is you lose the potential of playing offline.
XCloud has the much better lineup but right now on a technical level it‘s not very ambitious. I think they only support 720p at the moment and it‘s meant to be played with a phone. Google can (even if most of the games don‘t) deliver 4k/5.1/HDR.
For stadia to shine over XCloud it‘s simply to have to fulfill its promises. This means more features, games, exclusives. Stadia especially needs more features exclusive to the Cloud. XCloud is aiming to bring you console experience to the Cloud, which means you can‘t have games which are impossible for local hardware. Stadia on the other hand can do exactly that, but we need the games that proves it.
Right now there is style transfer in GYLT, a 40 car mode in GRID and screen sharing in the Tom Clancy game.
I dont think that it is a major piece of news if I honest.
I honestly just see it as xCloud getting more games, I dont really think the fact that Destiny 2 is in there is that big a deal.
I have tried xCloud, it works well enough but in terms of quality it does not compete with Stadia. With xCloud I can actually tell that I am streaming a game where as with Stadia I actually forget I am not playing on a home console.
@ReidoBaggins , "more games" is the one area Stadia currently lags in, which gives xCloud a very big advantage. I do agree with you that in terms of tech, Stadia is currently superior, but most people don't know that. I have streamed more than 200 hours of Stadia on my channel, but there is still this misconception that Stadia does not work. And sometimes, viewers who drop by my stream are surprised that "it actually works".
By taking things slow, and remaining in the "Beta shadows", Microsoft will avoid the current critics that their product does not work as well as it is supposed to. And of course, they will improve their tech soon enough. And unless Stadia can bridge the gap in games availability, or do something about the bad reputation it currently has as a failed product, they will have a hard time competing with xCloud.
