on stadia im missing the forsaken pack. I’ve purchased all content on Steam so I’m not sure why everything would be available besides the forsaken expansion.
on bungie’s website it provides steps to add license on all platforms but Stadia.
anyone know a solution to play this content I’ve already purchased?
@CajunWaffles DLC expansion content isn't transferrable between platform. You can access the weapons and armors if you already got them from the platform that has the license, but you won't be able to play the activity on a platform that doesn't have the license.
Rule of thumb - things that are purchasable by silver is cross platform, things that aren't are not. So for seasonal pass and cosmetics you can access on all platforms, but expansions, dungeon pack aren't.
How am I able to play witch queen expansion, which I purchased on Steam? If that’s the case I should only be able to play destiny 2 base game. I’ve only purchased expacs on Steam.
@CajunWaffles It's currently free week for all Destiny 2 expansion, so you can play Witch Queen on all platform until the 30th. Not all content are included though. More details below:
Thanks for all the info. I thought cross save and digital license of content were together. So basically the functionality of being able to play on multiple platforms doesn’t benefit the player at all. Forcing them to purchase content 2wice. That is ridiculous.
if that is the case why on elder scrolls online my previous expacs are available on stadia. All my expacs have been purchased on Steam as well. What you’re saying is I should only have access to the base game ESO?
Destiny 2 links characters and seasons to your Bungie account, expansions are not linked to your cross-save game account.
You can play on Steam and unlock everything there and then play seasonal events and use gear unlocked on Stadia (as long as it doesn't require you to have expansions). It can be very useful for Gambit, Crucible, seasons, daily, etc.
It has one of the best crossplay / crossave of Stadia.
https://www.bungie.net/7/en/CrossSave
"Destiny 2 expansions (ex: Forsaken, Shadowkeep) do not transfer between platforms with Cross Save. Destiny 2 Season Passes (ex: Season of the Undying) do move between platforms on the characters they were redeemed on.*"
At least now there is crossplay, at the beginning I remember that to do some activities I had to go to steam to be able to play with people XD. Also, with recent sales... I've bought the latest expansions on Stadia. You can buy the deluxes on Steam if you regularly play there (as cosmetics and equipment and seasons if you go between platforms) and only the base expansions on Stadia.
However ESO also links expansions, DLC, ESO PLUS and Crowns. With which just by having ESO Standard you can use everything purchased on other PC platforms (Steam, Stadia and ESO Launcher.
It has the best Stadia crossbuy (it doesn't have crossbuy or crossplay with consoles just like the other PC versions don't).
They also provide a few times a year both a lot of free game time (a couple of weeks ago recently) and also ESO Plus.
And a short time before also thanks to them it is easy to convince to help the Stadia community with some keys so that they will play and promote the game on Stadia =D. Advantages of crossbuy =D.
They are different companies, with different decisions. As can happen with many other games that can decide to allow cross save, cross play and which elements can be shared and joined, even being able to choose specific game modes or give options to activate and deactivate it.
Stadia allows fully linking accounts and all tools to developers so these are decisions that video game developers must make.
I hope all this helps you understand the situation a little better and take full advantage of the cloud, crossave and crossbuy :).
@CajunWaffles I don't play ESO so I don't really know anything about how the cross save works, but it looks like @Blackgem already covered it in depth. Also as a fellow Destiny 2 player, I'm sure you're ware that the game can be pretty FOMO at times. I love that I can access the game when there's a certain mod/cosmetics/weapons/armors being sold when I'm away on work trip. This alone is already worth the cross save for me.
I wouldn't say the ability to play on multiple platform doesn't benefit the player at all. I love that Destiny 2 has cross play since I mainly play on PC at home, but when I'm in the office I can squeak in a few strikes or seasonal activities during lunch. Then I can play on my PS5 when I want to play from the couch.
The fact that expansion doesn't transfer is not really a decision from Bungie, but more from the platforms themselves. Why would Sony allow players to play the content that's purchased from Xbox store, for example.
“Why would Sony allow players to play the content that's purchased from Xbox store, for example.”
think of it as foot traffic in brick and mortar store. More customers you have coming into the store, or in this case logging in to a platform and playing, the greater chances of that customer purchasing new games. More chances of the player logging in to play. More chances of him telling a friend and so on.
The way I look at it. If you’re a monthly subscriber to their service crossplay and licensing for that game should hold true. It holds true for Nvidia.
@CajunWaffles You have a good point and I can definitely see from that point of view. I guess until they're making it public their reasoning for doing so, we'll never know for sure.
I'm not sure I undersand your reference Nvidia. Are you referencing to Nvidia GeForce now? Their service is mainly considered as renting computers in the cloud, so if you already have the license from the respective digital stores, you'll be able to play the games. If you have the game on Xbox or Playstation for example, you won't be able to play through GeForce Now.
