Hi,
I am a Founder Edition Stadia user from Italy and I've always liked the streamed game experience. Recently, though, my connection got significantly slower. Stadia Speed Test reports 3.814 Mbps while any other Speed Test reports at least >200 Mbps. At the moment, most of the times I cannot play. Is this something related to Stadia servers? I hope it can be resolved.
Mh if you have some issues at the moment with Stadia and the network, I would recommend to check the troubleshooting steps mentioned in this article first.
If this doesn't help, you can either check with your internet provider (maybe something is wrong with your network or needs to be fixed) or you can also check out with the Stadia team if they have any further troubleshooting steps you can try in this case.
Hope this helps!
Hi Chufu,
I've already follow the troubleshooting steps almost a dozen times. No use. And it is was the link you posted that took me here. Stadia is definitely working, only not all times.
It is surely not a provider issue, because I can play other games with the same connection, only not in Stadia. The problem is presenting upon use on Chrome. I've already tried uninstalling the browser, but no change.
I can play now, for example (here it is 6.30am) but I cannot play usually between 8pm-12pm, and that's annoying. Usually in that timespan, my connection is going great, but Stadia Speed Test shows values under 10mbps, and that's not possible.
Is Stadia Speed Test just evaluating the connection speed or is it evaluating Stadia network status too? I cannot explain the discrepancy.
Hi @GraverValentine. I'm sorry to hear of your connection troubles. Based on what you are describing, it sounds like your provider is experiencing heavier load to its nodes during peak hours, resulting in limited bandwidth allocation for high-consumption services like Stadia. I suggest reaching out to your ISP to see if there are any solutions available. I wish I could offer a better solution, but I do not believe the issue is with Stadia in this case.
Of course you don't see it being a google problem, chrisfromGOOGLE. Though I'm here to tell you, it is 100% a google problem. Read his comment, stadia speed test says 2mbps, other speed tests say 200Mbps-ish, that's not an isp problem, if it was all speed tests would be crap. I can attest to google being **bleep**, I have a great internet connection and even changing my DNS to Google's DNS stadia is still unplayable. Waste of money I wouldn't recommend to my worse enemy
The Stadia Speed test runs a single stream to a Stadia server.
Generic speed tests run multiple streams to the fastest thing they can find.
An anomaly between the results is not automatically a Stadia problem because ISPs can and do throttle different types of traffic and they have also been known to prioritise speed test traffic when they recognise it.
Your cut and paste replies are not helpful. This is not acceptable for a subscription service.
Stadia needs to start figuring out why the hell so many people are having similar connection issues. We want answers, not useless PR.
When you say you can play other games, do you mean online games or other streaming services (GFN, Xcloud or whatever)?
The fact you're getting these line drops during peak local internet hours is pretty much a smoking gun for ISP throttling.
The Stadia speed test is trying to simulate a stream to a Stadia POP. ISPs vary slightly but Stadia is classed as gaming by some UK ISPs but streaming service by at least 1 I know of.
The reason your generic speed tests are coming out with your expected speed is that most internet speed tests run multiple streams and are run the test on the fastest service they can find. Also, ISPs don't tend to specifically throttle speed tests if they can help it.
The reason you are getting the speed test variances is because the Stadia speed test is essentially creating a stadia test stream, and it's being throttled.
The issue is definitely with Stadia, not with my connection. As I said, if you read, I can play with other services while Stadia says my connection is not suitable. Those are games using my connection, and I experience no lag. And as I can see I am not the only one with the problem, that makes it a Stadia problem too.
I am sorry you're not answering an help request, but just passing the buck on.
Isn't there a traceroute or ping test I can do to understand better the issue? Please suggest something support-like and that can help.
Surely they have been the events with the Youtubers, when they finish the connection problems will be solved.
I've heard that Google is having trouble maintaining their servers and they're going to include paid Gmail and Drive.
Youtube is a monster that someone has to pay for in some way.
Who is your ISP? I'm not saying that it is or isn't, but if all people experiencing the same issue have the same ISP, then then may point to it.
ISP's in the UK slowed bandwidth speeds last week for gaming connections to balance the networks after COD released a mega patch with caused an abnormal load on the network.
If for no other reason, its worth contacting them and ruling it out.
Maybe I'm not being clear, anyhow, my ISP is Fastweb. While I cannot play on Stadia during these timespans, for example on Destiny, I can play on Destiny on Steam without any lag, so I strongly doubt it is an ISP matter. In addition, I can play on Destiny for Stadia during all other day parts, without any lag.
Those are not the same thing.
Online multiplayer games running on a local machine are built to minimise traffic to account for bad internet connections. They don't need a lot of bandwidth at all, as long as your ping is good.
Stadia is trying to deliver a low latency interactive video stream with no buffering. That needs stability and high bandwidth.
Completely different requirements.
And again, the fact you get these problems during peak local internet hours is an indicator of ISP throttling or bad load balancing.
Orange.
It's about youtubers crowd choice anyways.
Hi I am experiencing the exact same here in bentonville Arkansas
Hi. Same problems here. On any other speed testing site I get over 900 Mbs while on M-Lab test I get 7 Mbs. This is unacceptable, as I have downloaded many times from many websites all around the world and I have never experienced such low speeds. This is definitely a Google problem, no matter what Chris might say, and Stadia will lose a lot of paying customers if the issue is not fixed soon. I for one won't pay for Stadia Pro and for a high speed internet connection and be able to play only in 720p on a 42" 4K monitor.
Hello i'm also experiencing this problem. I was wondering if anyone ever found a fix.
