Dawn of new riders - not saving at ruins blood briar

• Hi my sons playing DreamWorks Dragons Dawn of the new riders and he's at the ruins of Blood Briar but it seems that the game does not save if he's made any progress...
• He got to the 3 dragons and it shows the save icon in the corner to show its saved his progress
• He also got to end dragon where you see Astrid beforehand but once again he see the save icon in the corner.
• However the game never saves to that progress and has to always start right from the start of the ruins and redo the whole chapter 
• Plus when he got to the end scene the game just stopped progressing as his dragon and the character were stuck in the door way and no icons on the screen including any weapon or potion's...

Any ides how to resolve.  Frustrating started right from the chapter each time.
