Credit card alternatives?

Jump to Best Response

Heyho, i wanted to join stadia and was even looking for a credit card, but it seems like they removed the unidentified credit cards from stores in germany. O2 and visa once had some that you could buy just like that, prepaid,

first of all i dont have a job thanks to corona at the moment and so i can not get a credit card and second my ID is not guilty at the moment any more as well. and because of corona it takes me several weeks or months to register a new ID and hold it in my hands, so i could then obtain a prepaid credit card, because they need my id to sell me one i think. and if i would manage to get the prepaid credit card, do i need to charge it with 10€ or is 0 enough for testing stadia?

i honestly waited some months and thought it would only be a matter of time until stadia adds other payment methods. even if i want to do the work to get a prepaid credit card, it really a lot of work and i dont know if its worth all the trouble or if i just by a new graphics card myself. i want to play now. not in 2 months or sth. its the same **bleep** with shadow.

i want to change because i bought a 1440p monitor and geforce now does not support 1440p but you do.

I have money and want to pay, but there is no fitting service for me. Its so sad.

@Kardek ok a few questions, let me try to address one by one:

1. You need to enable cross play if you want to continue your Destiny 2 progress from other platforms. You can follow the directions here - https://www.bungie.net/7/en/CrossSave make sure you pick your original Destiny 2 account not the Stadia account as a source and. Because otherwise you'll be overwriting your original account with the progress you have on Stadia (which I assume you're just starting.

2. If you don't pay for Pro subscription, the gameplay quality is limited to 1080p. For complete list of Pro sub benefit, you can check the article here - https://support.google.com/stadia/answer/9798345

3. For example in US, I was able to pay Pro membership using Google Pay and Google Play credits (works for buying games too), as well as Paypal. But I do know not all countries allow this as payment. Since I don't live in Germany, I can't really say with regards to payment methods. Hopefully someone else that's based in Germany can provide more insights.

Hiya @Kardek

Well in the Netherlands we are also able to use PayPal.

You have to set it up on your Android device as a payment method within the Google Play store.
Now you can use that payment option within the Stadia app.
Maybe worth a try?

@Kardek There's an unofficial way to do it since you're unable to purchase through Paypal.

  1. Install a Chrome extension called ARC Welder to emulate Android on a Chrome instance (see https://www.gadgetsnow.com/how-to/how-to-run-android-apps-on-google-chrome/articleshow/65532288.cms)
  2. Go to the Play Store and get the Stadia app
  3. Log in to Stadia through this emulated Android experience
  4. Set up Paypal as your payment method
  5. Purchase game/Stadia Pro
  6. Exit the emulated instance and use the Chrome version of Stadia

Keep in mind that this is unofficial, so it's not supported in any way. Please feel free to try if you're comfortable going through the steps. Please do let us know how it goes!

HI @Kardek, one way to check is to open a Chrome tab and type chrome://gpu/ into the URL bar. From there, scroll down or CTRL+F to find the section titled "Video Accelerator Information." If you see "Decode VP9" in that table, your GPU can decode VP9 video signals.

i can not even take photos of me for a new id because of the lockdown the photographer has closed. so there is no legit possibility to even get a new ID and a credit card in the same turn. no ID, no credit card. Corona = no photos. no photos = no new ID= no credit card = no option to get stadia.

i dont have no android device but i have set up the settings on https://play.google.com/store/paymentmethods and there i can see that i already have added paypal to my google play store. but i still dont have no option to pay with it at the end of stadia pro purchase. there is no window or anything, it forces me and tells me: enter your credit card.

there is nothing like an option or something.

@Kardek I can't speak much about the payment situation, since different countries have different ways of doing payments (and I'm not sure what's available in Germany)

But if you just want to check Stadia, you can claim one (or both) of the free to play games that's currently available on Stadia

Hey,

thanks for the reply. The game destiny 2 itself works. but i can not use my own destiny 2 account? it looks like only a test game and the resolution looks like 1080 or even 720p. i thought stadia supports 1440p? can i change this somewhere? i can not change it in the destiny game. but i thought the game itself was having a different ui when i played it on steam. is it a stadia only version? and can i log into my destiny accound somewhere with 1440p? this would be great.

so stadia decides to not support other payments in germany.

elswhere i can pay with anything else. including google pay, paypal and anything i can think of.

when i want to finish the stadia pro registration it asks me 100% for credit card only. i can not chose to pay with google pay, paypal or anything else. i would really like to and try stadia and see if i like it and probably become a member. but a credit card is in any possibility far away for me right now. i dont have no valid ID atm and just to get a new ID means new photos and photo studios are closed because of corona for at least 1 more month or something? and even then probably 200% more people than usually want a new id and the waiting time for a new ID is like 6-8 weeks instead of 3-4 weeks. so it can take up to 3 months or even more if the lockdown will go on for me to have a new id and to get a credit card.

the payment method is as i said, i can only pay with credit card and its not about germany, but stadias choise. i dont know what you mean about the different ways countries have their way of doing payments???? what does that have to do with my country? i can pay with a dozen of payment methods for german and services outside of my country.germany does not restrict any company in any way. or what do you mean? i can order a pizza with paypal from a german company or i can even pay netflix, a foreign company with direct debt. they take the money directly from my account to theirs. i would not know that germany has any restrictions towards stadia or stadias homecountry.

or what do you mean? i think its only stadias choice what they want to support and what not. Other companies offer other payment methods here as well. from germany and all over the world. even with direct cebt.

yeah nice. thanks a lot!  that really worked quite easily. but now when i go to my stadia settings i have the pro abo but i can not chose 1440p at settings. ony 1080p and "up to 4k" is blocked because i have a 1440p screen.

i thought stadia would support 1440p? i read somewhere...

it literally says i need at least chose 1440p at windows settings but at point 2 of why its now working at "faq" about why 4k is not displayed they mention i need to connect a 4k display. is that the joke of the year? i need to connect a 4k display to play 1440p so my 1440p monitor is useless for stadia?

Hi @Kardek -- do you have a GPU in the computer which supports VP9 hardware decodng?

Looks like I don’t.
is there a list of supported cpus?

do only new generation cpus have this? Would not be great logic, because stadia is a nice opportunity for older systems and mine isn’t even that old. It’s even a core i5 already. What do you expect stadia customers to own in their computers? Shall I buy the newest threadripper cpu for some hundred bucks to then buy and run stadia at 1440p?? Isn’t it the idea to make it run on older hardware?

I read on Wikipedia YouTube used vp9 too. But it’s not mentioned there if they still do.
at other sources I can see 4k and hdr images. It’s the first time I heard of vp9. Only stadia asks me. Is it something like HEVC Wikipedia says? I think HEVC works for me so far... I’m not sure.

HI @Kardek, sorry to hear that. I wish I could do more to help here, but without the hardware to decode the VP9 signal, it is not possible to play in 4K on your local machine. If your motherboard does not have a GPU and you are using onboard video processing through your CPU, your video processing experience will always be inferior to a dedicated GPU. I am unable to make any hardware recommendations, but I hope this is helpful in explaining what is happening. Best of luck to you!
