I have two controllers linked to my stadia account. When i play a game (e.g. Fifa 22) and a controller shuts down due to a low battery, the fired up second controller can control the stadia UI, but can't access the game. No controller entry is registered in the game. I have to end the game and restart it to be able to use the controller in the game.
This can be quite annoying, especially during online matches.
@Davor Just want to make sure, both controllers are Stadia controllers? And are they both plugged in when that happen? One thing you can do is to turn off the second controller when you're playing solo so that it won't fire up when the first controller runs out of battery.
Otherwise, I agree that's definitely a nuisance. Make sure to send feedback to the team through the Stadia app.
Edit: I misunderstood the question. I originally thought when the battery died, it automatically fire up the second controller. But reading your post again, it sounds like you purposely turn on the second controller to replace the first constroller. In which case, please refer to the answer offered @Blackgem for better solution.
I would still recommend sending feedback to Stadia team and also EA, since we're not sure if it's the issue with the game, or the platform.
Hi Ivan, i have two stadia controllers. The second scenario is correct. I manually started the second controller when the first died.
Actually, this is my feedback to Stadia, since i couldn't find any bug report platform.
Each game can handle the loss of a game controller in a different way... but my recommendation would be as simple as when you get a low battery notification, connect the controller by cable, remember that there are cheap 3 meter usb type C cables being able to use mobile phone chargers, in my case I have a multiple charger in the living room so I can plug in several controls and mobile phones at the same time if necessary.
Check if it happens to you in other games in case it was only applied to it, and it could even be, in addition to your own decision or poor implementation, an anticheat system (yes, there are controls with tricks and other things).
Hi Blackgem,
thanks for your response. I'm sure, that your workaround would work, but I don't want to be bothered by cables.
i posted this for Stadia to look into this issue, which by the way also happens with other games. Apparently there is some issue with the game handle when switching controllers.
