Constant stutter every 10 seconds in every game

Jump to Best Response

Hello,

I'm having lag spikes every 10 seconds since a week ago in every moment of the day (it was perfect before that). Tried changing channel on my router and opening tcp / upd ports to no avail. Every game just stops for a moment every 10 seconds (bad resolution and Stadia controller stops responding). This occurs with 720p/1080p. It's very irritating and I'm running out of ideas. Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

Hiya @Keiya,

Did your home network changed somehow?
And how are you playing Stadia?

  • Chromecast Ultra / Chromecast Google TV
  • Chrome browser on Mac or PC
  • Smartphone

From your post I understand you are playing using WiFi?
If so could you try to play with a ethernet cable connected (Chromecast Ultra/PC)?

Trying to understand if anything on your homenetwork is causing the issue.
As @MrVacca suggested you can contact Stadia support but they cannot checkout your local home network. :grinning_face_with_big_eyes:

@Keiya

This can be the issue when the internet quality is not at its best.
Not sure if it is a Stadia issue or a ISP issue.

One thing you could try is have a look at the competitor (Geforce NOW) and start a free session to see if this has the same issue. If that has a perfect connection it could be Stadia related. But please note that they dont support 4K so bandwith is a bit lower. :smiling_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Hi @Keiya,

Thanks for checking.
Are you playing a Chromecast Ultra or the Chromecast with Google TV?
Maybe Google DNS could fix some issues but it is rather strange it is stuttering.

After calling my isp for the third time, they finally found the source of the problem, and now stadia is buttery smooth again.

Thanks everyone!

Hey @Keiya

Sorry to hear about this issue, it sounds like you've done a great job troubleshooting too.  It's interesting that it was working and then suddenly stopped like that.  My best suggestion is to reach out to the technical support team directly at Stadia by opening the app, clicking your avatar icon, then clicking help & feedback.  It will take you directly to a support member to speak with directly online who will go through some troubleshooting from their end to try and figure out what's going on.

Sorry again to hear about your troubles, hope this helps!

Hmm nope, nothing about my network has changed, this just happened all of a sudden. I'm playing on Chromecast mostly, and on my phone sometimes (the lag spikes happen on both devices with regular hiccups every 10 seconds, even on stuff like Hotline Miami). I'm unable to test the ethernet option because our router is in the apartment next to mine, but I used to play just fine on wifi for 2/3 months straight, with no input lag or any other problem whatsoever. I tried changing some settings I found around the forums and also resetting the router to factory defaults but none of that helped... all settings in the home app are untouched.

I just don't know what to do anymore, it's either a problem on Stadia's servers in my area, or maybe my isp.

I'm having same issue connected via ethernet.

What kind of phone do you have?

Is it a supported device and is this connected to 2.4GHz or 5GHz WiFi?
For my mobile it plays best at 2.4GHz but that has something to do with the WiFi chipset.

I own a redmi note 9 pro, and I used it to play on Stadia for at least two months without problems. It's because of how satisfied I was with the service that I chose to buy a new TV just for that. Every device uses 5ghz. I tried everything, opening ports, restarting the router, resetting it at different times of day, resetting both chromecast and controller to factory settings, and now the GeForce Now test (flawless gameplay). I don't think it's an isp issue at this point.

Are you using a router your isp provided? Usually a modem/router combo in one.

Hi @Keiya, sorry to hear this is still ongoing. I'm going to be marking some responses as Best Responses, but it would be great if we could continue troubleshooting. Do you have access to the router's "Quality of Service" settings?

I still haven't figured it out, had a one hour chat with someone at Google but she wasn't able to help me..and yes I have access to qos settings.

Yes it's isp provided, but it worked well in the past. Thing is everything works well except stadia right now.

Edit : I don't know if this means anything, but I can play normally on my phone using the same wifi and my Bluetooth controller instead of the Stadia one. I'm so confused.

Hi @Keiya, sorry to hear that this is still happening. I still suspect that this is related to your home network solution, so I recommend looking into making optimizations in your router's QoS settings.

Do you know any specifics regarding what they changed, or resolved on the ISP end? I'm having the exact same issue here and have spent a long time troubleshooting with Google and my ISP is my last chance. However, they don't really seem to even understand the issue, or know what Stadia is. Which is awkward, because Movistar is the biggest ISP here in Spain.

Did you fix it? I'm using Movistar too and I'm starting to be annoyed. I have lag every 10 seconds.
