Compensation

We are going to have to be compensated by Google for this launch, right? Pretty fine line between overpromising and underdelivering and straight up fraud. Contrary to the “small number of people were affected” statement from Google, a customer service rep confirmed that they would not be offering compensation because the “problem affected everyone.” I hate to be petty, but this isn’t a start-up company — this is one of the biggest companies in the world and they must be held to account for false statements.

The one thing that Google probably didn't see coming were the hordes of angry teenage-gamers and outrage gamer cultists who shed tears on just about everything. Get over it. You're getting your code a couple days later than promised. You will survive.

I actually bought this as a gift and am not in either of the camps that you assume in your comment. But, way to stick up for the little guy. Google appreciates your defense, I’m sure.

This is a brand new platform: there's going to be issues. More to the point, this is an early access period, so you essentially agreed to help Google test it. It's unfortunate that it hasn't all panned out as many of use hoped (missing features, light catalog, etc.), but that's how it is. Whining about it won't do any good, and if you didn't want to take the risk, you should have waited. It's not like the original XBOX, PS One, etc. were perfect out of the gate. In fact, they still often have issues even now in their third or fourth generations. Honestly, I think Google is doing pretty well for a relatively wide release of largely unproven technology, which depends on things that are highly variable like networking. Suck it up.

FYI, this is a google community you're going to get people who defend it vigorously. I also doubt google will give any sort of compensation, maybe a extra free game? or an extra week of the 3 month subscription but I doubt any of that is going to happen my friend.

No we didn't. I don't know what you guys in the us signed up to, but in the UK it was a fully launched product that we bought.

It's one thing if they said something to the effect of "hey, be a beta tester, things aren't gonna be smooth" instead they GUARANTEED us access on launch day. That's what we're pissed off about. They never should have made such a strong statement if they weren't absolutely certain they could deliver on those promises. I'm a100% with you if people are complaining about quality, service outages, etc. As that's something they gave us a reasonable expectation of what to expect.

I was getting a bit frustrated with not receiving and invite code, and getting the device late.. and also had major issues getting it up and running on my existing CCU

But I work in software, and it's rare that a new product launch goes smoothly. A couple of days of pain for something that is good and has soooooo much potential. I forgive Google and am actually quite impressed how they've got it sorted.

I feel your pain, but on the scale of things, this is a pretty good success

I so want this to take off and become the future.. VR versions and a ready player one future? I'm in!
