Close and reopen your game for 4K resolution support. Cyberpunk 2077

Jump to Best Response

This action doesn't solve the problem.  4k working on other games.  I believe Stadia is throttling Cyberpunk and they should just be honest about it instead of giving an incorrect error message.  Frequently Stadia gives inaccurate error messages - this is frustrating.

I don't know if there's a glitch on this forum but my reply keeps getting deleted when I try to edit it so I'm posting it again. Apologies if this shows up as a double post:

I also have this issue in Ontario Canada. This seems to be a persistent issue for other people in this region as well, from what I've seen on Stadia subreddit posts.

The 4K stream works with every other game except Cyberpunk. The issue applies for both a session started in Chrome on a 4K PC setup as well as on Chromecast Ultra on a 4K TV.

On Cyberpunk 2077's launch night, the 4K stream worked well, but in the last few days it doesn’t ever load up 4K at all and I get the “Reopen game” for 4K message regardless of how many new sessions I try to reopen throughout the day and night. If I click on that message it further states:

"4K resolution available
Close and reopen your game for 4K resolution support."

My guess, and it’s probably wrong, is that Google oversold their server capacity for this game in this region to the extent that something switched to a 1080p limitation by default in the regional server hub specifically for this game.

Hopefully during this workweek we’ll see Google shuffle around the servers to allot more resources towards Cyberpunk or resolve whatever the cause of the issue actually is. Regardless of what the issue actually is, I just don’t want to play through this 40h game when it looks terrible on my big screens with Stadia’s 1080p compression.

I’ve seen people try to contact support about this and post their Stadia support responses where the support is telling them it’s either a glitch on the game publisher’s end or that it’s not-4K due to a connection limitation, but I want to emphasize that this “reopen” message in the connection quality menu makes it clear that this is on the Stadia server/stream end.

I’ve also seen Stadia subreddit posts that make clear that this is a persistent issue for multiple people in eastern Canada. Some people in other regions seem to have had this issue temporarily as their server centers exceed capacity, but If they reopen/reload the stream enough times they eventually get a 4K stream. In Ontario it never loads up without that “reopen” message, at least for me.

Cyberpunk looked so good on launch night in 4K and looks truly terrible on a large 4K screen in 1080p. We’re paying for Pro and supposed to get 4K here, so hopefully we get an official response about this soon.

I'll tell you what works reliably: start your game with a vpn, if you get an error message that says, "reopen game for 4k," try a different VPN.  When you get the error message, "4k unsupported by network" disconnect the VPN.  Your game will stop, reopen the game immediately without refreshing the browser page now on your normal connection.  This has worked for me every time.

Hi @Lienuss, can you tell me a bit more about the device you are using to play with, as well as your internet connection? If you are unable to access a 4K session, it is likely because one of these two things does not meet the requirement to do so. We can dig in here and try to get to the bottom of it.

This is still a problem. I can run everything except Cyberpunk in 4K, and I live in Denver CO

I just contacted Stadia support for the second time (after checking with CD Projekt Red). The agent immediately offered me a refund and did not explain what was going on before closing the support chat.

He did say that I will get a refund for my Stadia Pro; but closed the chat before clarifying whether that was 1 month, or if they are closing my subscription completely  -_-

Whaaaaaaaaaat?  I would love a refund offered for pro... as long as I can keep pro... because my kids like some of the pro games.

Also, let me re-post an update.  I started to maybe get somewhere with stadia support, finally.

--------

I've been on the chat with stadia support 2x, and on the phone 1x, and have received an e-mail from tier 2 support.  So we have checked speed, verified ports, done all the basic troubleshooting.

The e-mail from tier 2 support is as follows:

  • TCP and UDP are ports in range 44700 - 44899.

  • These ports are required for playing games on Stadia, for more information on port forwarding, please refer to your router manufacturer’s instructions. A simple Google search for “port forwarding your router model” should bring up instructions on how to accomplish this.

  • If you’re using a work or school network, check with your network administrator. Your network administrator might block ports in this range.

  • It would also be worth trying to change your device’s DNS to Google Public DNS. This would make your connection more stable as your DNS won’t be auto assigned but instead, fixed on that said address. Here’s how to: Configure your network settings to use Google Public DNS

    • Primary Server: 8.8.8.8

    • Secondary Server: 8.8.4.4

  • Change default MTU size of network from default to 1492

I've done these things, and am still receiving the same "reopen game" message.

The TV is a SHARP LC-55Q620U.  My ISP is Spectrum. My projectstream speedtest is 222.43Mbps. My Router and modem are both from spectrum, the Spectrum "Wave 2" rac2v1s router which is a spectrum re-branded sagegmcom router, and Arris tm822g which is docsis 3.

I might be having trouble changing the DNS on the router. Spectrum might have locked that down. I get an error when I click apply, but when I log out and log in and refresh the 8.8.8.8 and 4.4 values are still there. so, *shrug*. I also have UPnP IGD enabled, so if CCU is capable, it should automagically be handling the port rules. I've tried it both ways. Finally, 4k works fine on doom, destiny, cakebash, etc.

Still a problem for me as of Jan 17th.

I'm in the southwest US. As everyone else has stated, other games work at 4k just fine. Its not an issue with my device or my internet.

Still an issue an issue as of Jan 27th.

I am getting this issue again. Anyone else getting the reopen for 4k bug with Cyberpunk now? I'm amazed this issue hasn't been fully and completely resolved by now that it can still happen.

The only workaround for me to get 4K working is to start the Cyberpunk session through a VPN from Chicago on PC/Chrome-browser and then without closing the session opening it on the Chromecast Ultra outside of the VPN.

It's hard to believe that this issue is still happening in southern Ontario Canada after this long...
