This action doesn't solve the problem. 4k working on other games. I believe Stadia is throttling Cyberpunk and they should just be honest about it instead of giving an incorrect error message. Frequently Stadia gives inaccurate error messages - this is frustrating.
I don't know if there's a glitch on this forum but my reply keeps getting deleted when I try to edit it so I'm posting it again. Apologies if this shows up as a double post:
I also have this issue in Ontario Canada. This seems to be a persistent issue for other people in this region as well, from what I've seen on Stadia subreddit posts.
The 4K stream works with every other game except Cyberpunk. The issue applies for both a session started in Chrome on a 4K PC setup as well as on Chromecast Ultra on a 4K TV.
On Cyberpunk 2077's launch night, the 4K stream worked well, but in the last few days it doesn’t ever load up 4K at all and I get the “Reopen game” for 4K message regardless of how many new sessions I try to reopen throughout the day and night. If I click on that message it further states:
"4K resolution available
Close and reopen your game for 4K resolution support."
My guess, and it’s probably wrong, is that Google oversold their server capacity for this game in this region to the extent that something switched to a 1080p limitation by default in the regional server hub specifically for this game.
Hopefully during this workweek we’ll see Google shuffle around the servers to allot more resources towards Cyberpunk or resolve whatever the cause of the issue actually is. Regardless of what the issue actually is, I just don’t want to play through this 40h game when it looks terrible on my big screens with Stadia’s 1080p compression.
I’ve seen people try to contact support about this and post their Stadia support responses where the support is telling them it’s either a glitch on the game publisher’s end or that it’s not-4K due to a connection limitation, but I want to emphasize that this “reopen” message in the connection quality menu makes it clear that this is on the Stadia server/stream end.
I’ve also seen Stadia subreddit posts that make clear that this is a persistent issue for multiple people in eastern Canada. Some people in other regions seem to have had this issue temporarily as their server centers exceed capacity, but If they reopen/reload the stream enough times they eventually get a 4K stream. In Ontario it never loads up without that “reopen” message, at least for me.
Cyberpunk looked so good on launch night in 4K and looks truly terrible on a large 4K screen in 1080p. We’re paying for Pro and supposed to get 4K here, so hopefully we get an official response about this soon.
I'll tell you what works reliably: start your game with a vpn, if you get an error message that says, "reopen game for 4k," try a different VPN. When you get the error message, "4k unsupported by network" disconnect the VPN. Your game will stop, reopen the game immediately without refreshing the browser page now on your normal connection. This has worked for me every time.
Hi @Lienuss, can you tell me a bit more about the device you are using to play with, as well as your internet connection? If you are unable to access a 4K session, it is likely because one of these two things does not meet the requirement to do so. We can dig in here and try to get to the bottom of it.
Hello @meego2020, sorry to hear that you are having difficulty running Cyberpunk 2077 in 4K resolution. The culprit could be that a high volume of players connecting to your local data center for this particular game is causing your request to be sent to a further away location and your 4K request not being supported. The Stadia development team is aware of this with possible solutions incoming.
For now they are saying to try connecting again in a few minutes as sessions open up in your local data center. I hope this helps in understanding what is current happening. Demand to play this game is extremely high and the team is trying to deliver playability to all.
Thank you for your thoughtful reply. I trust that your assessment is indeed the issue we are experiencing. I've been a pro subscriber since March and have been paying since my free trial gave out in May. Perhaps they should prioritize the pro members who have actually been paying for some time instead of lumping us into the same pool with everyone who gets a free month of stadia pro. Cyberpunk works well on stadia, but people who jump on the ship because they get a free month of pro shouldn't ruin the experience for people who have been supporting for longer.
The queues are annoying for geforce now, but at least you can wait in it. I don't really want to play Cyberpunk until I get it in 4k - I'd rather have the option to wait in line for 4k. Thankfully I can still play starwars.
5.1 surround sound doesn't work for all the reasons you see elsewhere in this forum - I'm really just paying $10 a month for 4k and am angry that stadia can't be forthcoming about why opening the game about fifty times a day for the past two days doesn't solve the "close and reopen your game" solution proposed by the UI.
Yeah so it's been a month and concurrent players have dropped immensely and I still get "reopen game" message. I've NEVER had a 4k stream.
having same problem here every other game works as it should, from what i can find online it's a canadian problem
Same problem here. Tried in the middle of the night, still an issue.
Friend of mine said it's working in Kentucky but two of us in Colorado can't get 4k anymore.
I get this only when trying to play Cyberpunk 2077 here in Denver, Colorado. It used to do 4k just fine. All other games are losing in 4k perfectly as well. Very frustrating.
Same issue here. For over three days I haven't been able to play Cyberpunk in 4k. Do we have any ETA when the issue will be resolved?

Yes! You pretty much summed up everything with this post. My experience has been exactly what you described. I live in Southern Ontario, Canada. It seems to be a more localized issue here.
I have contacted support 2 times. This was an agonizing process since had to wait over 9 hours in total just to talk to someone! Only to be told it wasn't Stadia's fault because it was only affecting this one game, send me over to CD Projekt Red's support page instead. I couldn't believe how unhelpful the first person I talked to was. They didn't even tell me that they would have someone look into it or anything! The second person I was able to to talk with was a little more helpful, they told me they would escalate my issue and have their specialist look into it. However I'm not too hopeful that they will actually follow through, since my standards have been set so low after this horrible experience.
I have tested Stadia with a VPN, which gave me a New York VPN and I was able to get 4k resolution on my Cyberpunk 2077 stream. So this definitely is a Stadia problem, and a localized problem. Obviously this isn't a solution to the issue since playing through a VPN is a horrible experience, but it was more to prove a point that this isn't something the game publisher can resolve.
I also tried using a VPN last night and I was able to get 4k. It isn't just Canada - this problem is also in the US at least Colorado.
Been a pro member since day one and this is unacceptable
the game was running 4K on lunch day but now keep getting a msg to reopen game for 4K but doesn’t work no matter how many time I do it.
location Toronto Ontario
this is absolutely ridiculous
I also managed to get 4k working from my normal up address: start a stream with vpn that has access to 4k stream then turn off the vpn and reload the tab with the same cyberpunk session link url. There was noticeable jitter with this method but not too bad. If you want 4k and have a slow VPN my guess is this method will allow you to connect to a different server with 4k streams still available then reconnect to that session from your regular IP. It won't be an optimized connection but if you're like me it's preferable to the 1080p stream.
What VPN do you like? Pretty sad that Google is forcing us to pay for a VPN to get access to a feature we pay them for. I'm in the midwest US, btw
Same problem here in Elliot Lake Ontario..after I played cyberpunk on launch date my connection stays at fair..my Ethernet plugged tested speed is over 300 enough to run it at excellent, as it did since launch of stadia. So hopefully they are working on this Canadian nightmare lol cheers .
Any updates on this issue?? This is getting v frustrating and seems to be a localized problem for us Canadians..
Just started happening to me as well, and as the other mentioned, it only happens with Cyberpunk (other games work in 4k).
Is there an official response to this issue? anything we can do to resolve that
Any updates from Google on the issue? It's been over four days since the issue was reported. I've tested multiple games, I can achieve 4k stream in all of them but cyberpunk!
Same here.. would love to see a resolution or at minimum a acknowledgment of this issue...
I had this problem on the first day but it worked after I closed the game using the menu option to exit the game instead of Stadia home menu. Probably was a coincidence but after that I got 4k all the times.
Hi all.. was chatting with Stadia support and they suggested the following.. I am at work and unable to get this done. Hope this works for you folks and will be curious to see if it does..
Understood. We want you to have the best gaming experience. Could you try forwarding the TCP and UDP ports ranging from 44700 - 44899? These are required ports for playing games on Stadia. You might also want to try changing the DNS of your router to 8.8.8.8 for the Primary and 8.8.4.4 for the Secondary servers and see if that helps.
Appreciate the help.. I tried this and it doesnt work for me.. when i logged into a VPN in Chicago it did work perfectly.. hope its fixed soon
i got it working with this method also, another way i found it to work was to set a big file to download on another pc that uses enough bandwidth to slow your connection enough to no enable 4k and when you see not supported follow the same steps as you
I live in Utah and played through this game in 1080p looking terrible. I was playing the game again with the same re-open game issue. Here is how I got 4k HDR to work in Utah.
1. Connect to LA or San Fran vpn location
2. Launch stadia plus and force 4k resolution on a browser and launch cyberpunk. If your display is 4k you will see it switch to 4k if not no worries it will give you a message saying 4k not supported by device or something like that.
3. Switch the game from your browser to your 4k tv or monitor. Don't shut the game off, simple leave the game running on the browser, launch stadia on your tv or monitor, select cyberpunk and it will automagically switch your session from the browser to the device with 4k. The saddest part of this is you have to do this every time you want to play in 4k. So to enjoy 4k Cyberpunk in Utah, you need to purchase stadia pro and a vpn so you can lie about your location
Stadia support is grasping at straws trying to resolve this issue with that kind of port forwarding suggested solution. 4K game streams work fine for us with every other game but Cyberpunk 2077 which has the "reopen game" bug that limits the entire stream to 1080p. How could it be a port issue on our end if 4K streams work for every other game?
Also, the 1.04 patch for Cyberpunk 2077 was rolled out today, which is great. Unfortunately, that didn't resolve this "Reopen game" issue. The connection screen in the Stadia menu still says "Reopen game" "4K resolution available" "Close and reopen your game for 4K resolution support" with a 1080p limitation on the entire stream. Those of us with this seemingly regional bug are still waiting for an official response from Google.
I don't have a VPN so I haven't tried the trick that others have figured out in here, but that does seem to validate that this is a regional issue.
Same issue for me here in Toronto Ontario. Feels bad not getting what I paid for.
Same here - Toronto ON as well.
Don't worry my Specialist emailed me back today they are working hard with Ubisoft to resolve the issue. So it be fixed real soon ![]()
