Canceled Stadia - the lag and performance is pitiful

My friend has an XBox and I have a PC. The wonderlords at Bungie don't have the capability of us playing Destiny 2 together on different platforms so we tried out Stadia. My internet is about as good as you can buy with what I have available in the area.

I play Destiny on PC through Steam when I'm not playing with my friend and the performance is fantastic, no lag whatsoever. Smooth as silk.

Stadia however...WOW. What an absolute disaster. Blocky images, lag, terrible performance overall. It's unplayable.

I was planning on keeping the service so we could continue to play but it's just not worth it at any price, even free.

What a missed opportunity. I have tried everything and searched the forums to get better performance but nothing works.

Thanks for the free couple weeks Stadia but my god this was such an awful experience.

Far from a network engineer, but I know there's a few devices, multiple software layers, and opportunity for packet loss outside your home network which could affect your play, including your ISP and the ISP where the Stadia server lies.  I'm sure you've seen similar issues on console or PC multiplayer (frozen lobbies, party connection issues, system reboots, etc).

I've been "gaming" since before there was a word for "gamers", obviously I have experienced the occasional lag whilst playing online, almost all of these I can either explain away by the large - DBM number of my WiFi ((which vanishes when you connect via ethernet) and also, hasn't applied to either of my networks for years) or poor placement of routers/access points/channel interference.

Once you have eliminated these problems, you can find out exactly what service you have coming in through the pipe, courtesy of your ISP, which is solid, and enough to run 10 CCUs simultaneously.

If you need further proof that it's a Stadia side issue, I can use 1 ccu, get crippling lag that lasts 10-15 minutes, and in the meantime, log into my other ccu in the bedroom, and have perfect service, go back to the main TV, only to find crippling lag still affecting it. This happens in both directions, ie it does not matter which one I'm playing on, when it lags out, the other is fine, and now everything in both my homes are connected through a Netgear Orbi mesh system with ethernet backhaul, so everything with an ethernet port on it, is basically directly connected to the pipe.

THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE STADIA NETWORK, it isn't just me, and there seems to be no rhyme or reason behind it, garbage systems running 60mb or lower seem to run fine, and without issue, top of the range systems stumble and fail.

You may not be a network engineer, but the research I've put in to potential problems, and ways to fix them, I could probably make a good living as one now, so thanks Stadia, at least I understand my broadband a lot better now.

Couple of things:

1. have you tried using Stadia Enhanced to view your network numbers as you're playing (I know this is only available via a browser not CCU)

2. have you tried a different router system? (not saying Orbi isn't up to par; just asking)

3. can you, in the orbi mesh wifi settings, pause devices that are on wifi? I get this would affect your connection to Stadia if the device you're on is connected via wifi

4. have you tried playing Stadia through wifi through your CCUs?

I play Stadia on all my devices only via wifi; I manage my wifi devices while I play to make sure I don't have interruptions.  I've read sometimes that input lag can be experienced when CCU is connected via ethernet on some routers.

I'm not even going to bother to answer those questions, they've all been answered in some form or another more than once in the several posts I've made about trying to get Stadia to run without lag, I've spent over £1000 on equipment in my UK home alone, you can infer from that how much effort I've put into trying to get a stable stream.
