Best Chromebook for Stadia (4k)

Jump to Best Response

Looking to get a new Chromebook for my son. I'd like one that supports 4k on stadia.

Any suggestions?

@Chiram in general, any Chromebook that can support the requirements for 4K should work. Keep in mind you need to have a Stadia Pro subscription as well for playing games in 4K, and not all games natively support it.

As for hardware requirements, you can take a look at the following article:

On stadia.com

  1. A Windows® computer, Mac® computer, or Chromebook that supports VP9 hardware decoding.
    • If you want to play in up to 4K on a Mac, make sure you have macOS® version 11 or greater and the latest version of Google Chrome. If you don't have an external display, you might need to go into your Mac's system settings to adjust your screen resolution to at least 1440p or 4K.

Hi @Chiram

I don't know any Chromebooks with a 4k screen yet.

Or do you want to use the Chromebook with a external 4k monitor?

To be honest I think if you have a Chromebook with a recent intel CPU you are pretty safe to use the VP9 codec for a crisp resolution. Just be sure the Chromebook you are choosing it's CPU / GPU supports VP9.
