Bandwidth Issue with new Nest Wifi

So after purchasing a new Nest WiFi I am experiencing what I assume is bandwidth problems. When the network is barely being used Stadia is flawless at 4k, but all it takes is for someone to stream a video on Netflix or YouTube and it starts micro stuttering. Which I find odd because I didn't have this much of an issue with the ISP router.

So I have gaming preferred on and I'm setting a priority device which doesn't seem to make a difference if other people are on the network.
My current set up is Nest WiFi routed into the back of the router. Static IP assigned and put into the DMZ to avoid double NAT as my ISP router doesn't have bridge mode. My internet speeds are also between 55-60 down. Also using a hardwired CCU with a switch.
Any recommendations? Or will I always have problems with other people using the network? QoS doesn't seem to be doing much.

Hello @Chrisboi

With 55-60 down and an ISP router not in bridge mode, I'm not too surprised you get some choppiness when sharing the connection with video streaming. The Stadia stream is far less "bursty" than a Netflix or YouTube stream. Those tend to use all of the link, but only periodically, and that can cause congestion at times. Specifically, this sounds like an instance of something called "buffer bloat", which is when the equipment in your internet service provider has too many packets queued up for delivery to your network. Nest WiFi has some features that attempt to mitigate this, but there's only so much it can do from the receiving end, and I suspect your ISP router still being in place is making it harder. You may have some luck by reducing the Stadia resolution to 720p when you know you're sharing the link with video streams. But, that may not be enough to eliminate the issue. The best option is to move up to a higher performance internet connection, but I know that will cost more money.

Why not Zoidberg?

Thanks for the response. So after a lengthy conversation with both Stadia and Nest support, It's pretty obvious that it is just bloat over the network. 50mbps download isn't enough when a few people are on the network streaming from multiple sources. After doing a bufferbloat test on the Nest it was through the roof, so unfortunately I've had to get rid of it. The only solution here is to switch ISP (when my contract is up). Then I can make sure I can go with someone who provides a router that has bridge mode and possibly upgrade to 100 or 200mbps package.

Hey @Chrisboi

Have you ever tried activating the Stadia option in the app & your Nest wifi?

Will it get better after that?
