So you put in the work and the endless (slow) battles to escape the hell ship. You wake up on a beach. Wait, didn't DOS3 start that way? I digress. Surely it autosaved, it's time to explore! You jump with joy, down a quick martini - wait, how did a martini get in my inventory?
Whatevs - OOH, I wonder what is behind me? You walk MAYBE a few feet and see a clam. You remember that DOS3, you could get some pearls, so you try to loot the clam.
You are now frozen, unable to loot, unable to move, you're stuck in clam hell. You're not participating in a clam bake, you are the clam bake! After trying everything, clicking on countless screens, menus and such ... you resign yourself to the fact you're gonna have to restart but you decide ... to click ... the clam ... one more time.
BOOM, you crash to Stadia's desktop, and when you reload- all your progress is gone!
You just made my day, or I hope so! Since I posted this, I rolled my, like 6th toon to try and get around it and this time, I didn't freeze up but I found exactly what you're describing. Gah! It so helps to know this. I will checkout the Reddit and hopefully, that helps.
Wondering the ghost town was crazy because I'm like, I want to go there! NOPE I want to open that door! NOPE
Appreciate it, @codesplice
@JinookPhi I'm not sure if it's entirely related to the clam, but there does seem to be a progress-blocking bug with BG3 at that same point. It's like a cutscene doesn't fire when you arrive on the beach, and so the entire map is empty of NPCs or any opportunities to further your quest. Saving doesn't work, and interacting with certain entities (a door, chest, or, in your case, clam) can cause you to get even more stuck.
I even deleted my character and started a new game but ran into the same issue.
I did finally get past it, though, with a tip from this reddit thread on the bug:
I figured out a workaround. If you go and stand next to the pinned mind flayer in the ruins of the ship, then toggle mode and push your cursor to the far edge of the map, it may trigger the cut scene you missed. I'm not sure if it has to be a certain edge of the map, but I was able to make it work by doing so.
Maybe that'll work for you as well?
