Bad Connection

Jump to Best Response

Hi!

I'm trying to play Stadia on my older Computer (2011-ish) and it's lagging real bad. I've tried all of the steps that's suggested on the website, like lowering to 720p and closing other units that's using the width etc. The Bandwith is strong( 350mbits/s) and my wifi-router is a NetGear from 2018, fully uppdated software.

Does it have any matter that I'm playing on a PC with these specs:

Windows 10 Pro 64-bit,Intel Pentium G640 2,80Ghz, 4 GB RAM, Intel HD Graphic(also fully uppdated software with Windows Update)

It's very likely that your PC (Really old iGPU) just can't render the full screen video fast enough and it may not be a network issue.  Lower the resolution of your entire desktop to 720P if possible (in Windows, not Stadia) just for testing and try again and see if it improves.

Hello @BinaryJay,

Agree with you. I did experience it on a Chromebook with low specs and Stadia doesn't work on it. Probably the same here.

@MrCrowbarson : Could you please give us your specs more precisely ? Also, could you give a try over Wifi with your phone (Safari for iOS, Stadia app for Android) ? Even 2.4GHz Wifi should work.

If it's working through your phone/wifi it's almost sure it came from your computer's specs. You don't need a huge computer to use Stadia. But something decent to decode the stream. :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi MrCrowbarson,

a lagging Stadia experience is frustrating but here's the good news: Let's try to fix it together.

First of all, most performance problems are caused by WiFi connections. Do you have the chance to check if your lag can be neutralized by using a wired LAN connection?

I’m using a wired connection all the time when I’m trying Stadia:thumbs_up:

Well that’s interesting @BinaryJay

I lowered it to the lowest possible(1024) and now it’s quite playable! Some minor lagging but now Stadia doesn’t warn me about closing down due to bad connection:thumbs_up:

I use an old computer @Barthandelus :

HP Compaq PRO 4300 SFF with Intel Pentium CPU G640 @ 2.80GHz 4GB RAM. Windows 10 PRO 64-bit

Any other ways to make it more playable on this PC or is this the best I can do, you think?

An easy solution for me to maximize the Stadiaexperience is probably just buying chromecast and the gamepad, but it’s really cool to use the keyboard&mouse once again:)

Not much you can do @MrCrowbarson that PC just doesn't seem cable of rendering Stadia's stream fast enough at your preferred desktop resolution.  You can try using the Stadia+ Chrome extension to enable windowed mode which may let you reduce the size of the window that it has to render without changing your whole desktop resolution.
