Hi, I'm in Colombia right now and I just found out that you can't use Stadia here but support said the oposite some time ago (support email capture) https://i.imgur.com/FW0jFug.png I'm just wondering, is this only on the release week or something like that or forever?
@LinkStrifer You shouldn't be able to use Stadia in Colombia, as it's not in the list of supported countries. You can check the list of countries supported by Stadia from the following post:
Stadia availability & requirements
Sorry to say this, but whatever was said on that Google Support email was incorrect.
@Ivan well ... the support message was correct, the error message i'm getting is about the game be region locked but the games doesn't have that info so you don't know which ones you can play anywhere or not
I can sign in in Stadia and everything
@LinkStrifer Unless something changed, Colombia is still not listed on the supported country list. Were you actually able to order Stadia from Colombia?
And the support email says you can play Stadia (I assume games) from any country as long as you have good working internet connection. Sure, you may be able to get it to work with VPN or some other means, but it's definitely not supported.
@LinkStrifer I don't claim to be the cloud expert, but my understanding is that they limit the initial country availability is because they want to make sure players will have good experience while playing games. We're talking about something that's always connected, and involves of big amount of data that needs to be transferred constantly. Internet speed is one thing, but latency is also important. The further away you are from the data center that's hosting Stadia, the worse your latency will be. What I'm guessing is that there's no Google server around Colombia that's used to host Stadia games. At this point, speed alone doesn't help.
I think at this point you just need to wait until Stadia is officially launched in Colombia to make sure you have a good experience playing games.
@Ivan we'll see, i don't think they need to launch Stadia in Colombia to make it work, the error says is a Publisher region-block, in Colombia we can play CoD: MW and we don't have servers here, I think the closest is in Brasil or Miami ... i hope they remove that lock soon, still I will try with VPN and Stadia controller soon, maybe the controller fix that
@LinkStrifer When you play CoD, the game files are in your console or PC though. The server is only used to matchmake you with other players. This is completely different compared to streaming an actual game, since the data transfer is much less.
Yes I acknowledge that it might work, if you use VPN or some other networking magic, but I feel like you'll be getting many hiccups while playing. And Google support definitely will not be able to help you to troubleshoot the issues.
any update?
