Stadia has been under a magnifying glass from day one. People hating just because they're the "new kid" on the block. I feel like I'm an objective person. I can see that Stadia made a few mistakes but what company hasn't... What person hasn't?
Stadia and Google have an opportunity that not many can do. We don't know what behind the scenes activity is preventing certain things. Just play the games and be patient. It's only been basically a year.
The library is deeper. Games are better and other than Skyrim and GTA, they've pretty much got every category covered now. Call of Duty and Fortnite are probably contract issues. Companies usually have like 5 years to show their worth and because it's Google, one year is enough to judge?!
Relax people... Everything will be okay. And if this doesn't age well, let's just hope by that time, we gave them a chance.
Rant over.
I do agree with your overall thesis; the problem, especially with yesterday's news, will the Stadia that we have all bought into exist in 5 years to prove it's worth?
Mind you - I'm not talking about a white-label service. I'm talking about the consumer focused platform.
I hear you and it will suck cuz I believe that Stadia has such great potential... and Google definitely has the money to eat a loss for a year or two longer. BUT that unfortunately is what we all signed up for knowing their track record.
I hope that it never goes away... I mean Google Clips is gone but you can still use the device and app, just doesn't update anymore. Same with Google Glass. Device and app works but it just doesn't update. So if the plan goes left, Stadia itself will still prolly work, it just won't update. We know Chromecast ain't going anywhere... Not to mention all devices with a Chrome browser. That's the device and any controller works so the Stadia controller is almost irrelevant if it doesn't. Let's hope it doesn't even get to that.
A "system", tons of games for "free" for $120 in the last year... Even if you consider the price for start up, which I think was also $120.... That's $240. Still less than most consoles WITHOUT games. I think it's earned it's worth but I definitely hear you. Will it live up to expectation in those 5 years... well, again, we all knew about the Google grave yard. If it shut down, I'll be the first on the front line with my pitchfork lol But this was more in reference to the people that's like, "See... Told ya! Stadia sucks"... Just because... So corny.
They forget Playstation been around for like 25 years, Xbox; maybe 20. Nintendo maybe 30 or so years... Etc... Google is inexperienced competing in a very experienced arena... They're just our Skynet lol and rich so people just wanna hate. I'm gonna keep it in the back of my mind that that news happened but I'm not gonna panic like it already happened you know. If in 5 years, it's still here... We panicked for nothing.
The thing is, for many of us, the idea of first-party titles was one of the most attractive aspects of the platform. I wanted in-house exclusives. Heck, as a game development student, I aspired to work in one of these studios someday. I'm still playing my Stadia games and paying for Pro (when I know I'll be playing), but this is a big blow for me and one I'm not putting aside so easily.
I totally respect this point of view... Can't even knock you for that. Didn't even think of it as them taking people's dreams away...
Then my original post is not in reference to you either... Changed my thinking but still to those that just wanna see Stadia fail, I still direct the original post to you.
Hopefully in the future they open back the studios and your a lead there. Good luck with that!
If Google can judge their gaming studio after 1-2 years, we can do the same with Stadia ![]()
But who launches a game and closes their game studio the same day.
I have seen people with problems in "Journey to the Savage Planet" they ask Alex Hutchinson (Co-founder of Typhoon Studios) for help.
"Sadly we're not in the loop anymore! You'll have to keep poking Stadia peeps."

Good luck getting help from Stadia if it's an in-game issue xO
I don't know what to think: if you see a future for Stadia closing a studio with 150 employees when you have 130k is not worth the bad press
