Access/Lost Game Data!!!

How can stadia ever expect to scale if it cannot not ensure the integrity of its data?? Google does such a good job saving data in other realms and it surprises that a product that based around games which to some is another part of themselves is being disregarded. How can stadia ever grow if I can't delete my game data, download it so if it gets corrupted I can recover it and so forth. I do not want a reply from a support member, I have talked to a couple and they have no control or say in the manner. I'm talking to you devs! How could you design/architect a beautiful creation and not consider accessing your data, it's inconceivable... If Stadia does not address this, it stands no chance once Microsoft and Sony become bigger players in the streaming realm.

I don't think you would ever run into an occurance of save data getting corrupted as they are securely stored in Google's own data centers which I'm sure you must know is a whole lot more reliable compared to our own personal drives. These must be tied to your Google account and unless you were to delete your Stadia profile, the chances of you losing your saves is pretty slim to negligible. As for whether you can delete saves or overwrite them in games, that might be up to the developer to decide and implement.

You can however leave a feedback and request Stadia team to be able to let you use Takeout to download your save files and if enough people ask for it perhaps they might allow for it. To leave a feedback, tap on your profile and then submit the feedback either on mobile or web.

That's exactly what happened to me, nba 2k got corrupted and I have no access to the data, not too sure what you're referencing.

Oh okay, I understand the situation now. Sorry this happened to you and I can understand the frustration. These however are mostly on the developers who might not have a proper system in place to prevent data corruption. You could raise an issue with the developers or Stadia support and urge them to host backups of saved files in case such events were to happen again in the future.

Thanks for understanding, I'm a software dev myself which is why I had to call it out :beaming_face_with_smiling_eyes:

It's so surprising cause I would have data as the center around which the platform is being built and especially with privacy concerns I think there is a actual ethical issue around this especially in countries with gdpr

@Oba-One Agreed. I also think this is within the discretion of organisation and the terms they lay out for their service. There are platforms outside of gaming which I know of such as Letterboxd where they won't hand out the data (watchlists, diary entries etc) tied to your personal profile which you create on their website. At which point you're basically reliant on their database and service being operational in order to access your data with no alternative way to retrieve or backup it.

Google on the other hand has their noteworthy Takeout feature built into pretty much all of their products and services such as Photos, YouTube etc where you can safely request a backup of your data. Why they don't provide a similar option for Stadia is currently unknown but I suppose the reasoning could be our relationship on Stadia involves the publisher of the game (who  might have their own separate terms and legal policies for their products) and not directly between us and Google themselves.

Google could however in the future (and may even be forced to) enter into negotiation with these big publishers who host an application on their platform to allow their users access to save files and other personal data within the game to comply with regional restrictions around privacy and usage of data as you pointed out.

Hate to say you’re wrong, but you are. Stadia is just as likely to lose your data as anyone else. I’ve constantly lost Red Dead Redemption 2 and Ghost Recon Breakpoint save data on Stadia. Just this morning I loaded them up and have lost every bit of progress in both.

Thanks for the post. I'm truly sorry that you lost your save data and we appreciate the feedback.
I did also want to point out that this is an old topic so I will be closing it. If you have any follow up questions or concerns and for better visibility in the community, please feel free to create a new post.
