What today’s message about Stadia means for players

Stadia players, you may already have seen the message shared on Google’s main blog just now. This is a short recap of the most important information for players from the main post:    

 

  • You will continue to have access to your games library through January 18, 2023 so you can complete final play sessions and move your progress to alternate platforms where possible.

  • Commerce functionality (the ability to buy games, new subscriptions, add-ons or in-game purchases) on Stadia has now been disabled.

  • Google will offer a full refund of all Stadia hardware purchases (Stadia Controller, Stadia Founder’s Edition, Stadia Premiere Edition, or Play and Watch with Google TV Package) made in the Google Store and all purchases of games and in-game transactions made in the Stadia Store. 

  • The refund process will take us some time to complete, and we expect to have the majority of refunds completed by the middle of January 2023. Please allow us until this time before contacting our support team regarding the status of your refund(s).

  • Stadia Pro subscription payments will not be eligible for refund, but if you are an active subscriber, you will continue to have access to your library without charge during the shut-down period.

 

As we begin the work of processing refunds to customers, Stadia customer service agents will not be able to provide more information to you at this time. For information and updates, please review the information on our Help Center, which will include new information as it becomes available. We’ll also contact players directly via email shortly with more information.

 

We want to thank you for taking this journey with us: in particular, the Founders and fans who have been with us from the beginning. The Stadia team poured the same passion for games into our work building and supporting Stadia as you have shown us each day in your play.

Sad to see you go. I had a blast with the games. If only there were AAA Games you folks would have made it - sadly management focused on games no one plays or no one needs the entire Google cloud to render ...

Hope to see a revival one day in the future.

Just wanted to thank the Stadia Team for all their effort. I have thoroughly enjoyed using the service. Just wanted to also thank Google for living up to and delivering on their refund promise. Received my refund on all my game purchases a couple of days before Black Friday so thank you very much for my FREE Xbox game console and for being able to purchase it at a great price,along with a bunch of my favorite games on Stadia!!! Sure made my transition to console gaming pain free. Loving my new Xbox thanks!!!!

Well that’s disappointing, I bought the Founders edition but never got around to playing it. Now I’ll never know what it was like. But from the posts it sounds like most people enjoyed it… :crying_face:

I still think Stadia is the future of gaming.

Geforce Now's virtual machine service is nothing like Stadia. I was disappointed at their misleading service and I'm still waiting for my money back. I spent hours to set it up, find out that it didn't work on my steam games, only couple of them and then demand customer care.

Meanwhile Stadia worked like a dream, announced the shutdown and returned my money I wasn't even expecting to get back.

Just wanted to thank the Stadia team. I'm an old school player who dropped from the wheel and after a 10 year hiatus started gaming again with Stadia (cyberpunk, FFXV and Destiny 2).

Virtual machines do not interest me, or new consoles. I'm probably going to just quit gaming again as its too much of a hassle.

Did anyone get deceived like me about the refunds? For the hardware i still wait for the refund, but they announced not to refund the whole amount of money. 

Even so, they said after 14 days i will receive it, but the days are gone and no money refunded.

I wrote directly to Google, but like always no answer. They are ignoring, i already change my gaming to Xbox and they answer immediately. Why Google dont want to answer?

Is Google about to steal us?

Please tell me what you think and if it happens to someone else.

You're literally getting all your money back. 

 

This is hard for people to grasp for some reason but you're not supposed to contact them UNTIL AFTER JANUARY 18TH. Wait it out...your money will come. I got ALL my money back (well over $1000).

@truferblue22 but they already send an email, were they mention i will receive my money back in 14 days. So it doesnt fit. I received all the money what i spend over playstore, butnotthe money i spend with credit card.

If a someone/company says here if Eugope something they have zo do this in the timframe they say or to a specific timeframe from the law. I know Google is an US company, but if they make business outside of their borders, they have to behave with the regulations and laws of the country they are  making business with. 

So, this means if they send an email to refund in 14 days, they have to do this.

This with 18th Januar has to do if you dont receive any information.

Everyone should know the rights they have. I need to know if others have the same issue, because it is a good indicator for my laywer. Here in Germany you have to contact the person/company you have an issue with and if he is ignoring you, you have the right to inform your laywer and go the further steps.

my refund was sent to a card thats canceled. I need my refunds sent to the new card I saved on file.

@Kntryssg4280 Google will provide the option to use a different card or you have to get with the financial institution If I am  not mistaken

Hallo 

Schade das es nicht mehr funktioniert. Aber ich fand es gut das ihr euer bestes gabt.

Ich spiele zwar erst. Seit letztem Jahr aber ich hatte so viel gefallen daran gefunden. Da es einfach war über Chrome zu streamen und den Controller ohne jegliche Konsolen kabellei zu benutzen. Ich war zwar nicht regelmäßig online aber ihr hattet mich so fasziniert, dass ich stadia mir zugelegt habe.

Ich werde es vermissen, als Erinnerung werde ich meinen Controller für die tolle Zeit behalten und hoffe das stadia mit einem alten Controller in 1-2 Jahren wieder aktiviert wird. 

Ich werde meine Hoffnung nicht aufgeben. Ich weiß das ihr ein tolles Team mit Ideen seid.

Been nearly 2 months and have yet to get anything. No money deposited in my old bank, no declined transactions no nothing. How has it taken this long and support at Google, Stadia and my bank all refuse to be of any help. Blaming the other parties involved. I just want my money and no one has any answers and refuse to be helpful in any way.

 4th december i received an email about refund in 14 days, but until now i did not receive it.

I wrote them, but i get ignored.

The credit card i used back then is still working. Now, we have 29th december.

Google is again lying, but now it getting worse. They do it with our money. If we normal people do that, we are getting in jail.

THEY'VE SAID DOZENS OF TIMES TO WAIT UNTIL JANUARY 18TH. THEY WILL NOT RESPOND TO YOU UNTIL JANUARY 18TH. 

 

Y'all out here acting like they're stealing from you when really we're getting the retail experience of a lifetime. Calm down, wait until the 18th, and next time... read the instructions.

@truferblue22  in the email is written i will receive the refund in 14 days, not on 18th january. Now calculate from 4th december until today. If they write 14 says they have to do this latest in 14 days. If i buy i product on bill and i have to pay in 14 days and i dont do it on time i will be charged additional. Now, they have to pay us additional. What we are getting from Google is criminal, fraud and lies.

@WatchingLeader been nearly 8 weeks and nothing. So it's been well over 14 days. That's my point. It doesn't take this long to process this stuff. The company never sent my money period. So Stadia is just lying and it'll take even longer to get my money after the fact. They shouldn't have automatically sent money to those cards without pinging them before have to make sure they are active. 

Bank often see this with inactive cards as fraud and ignore them. So this is absolutely on Google fault they just don't want to deal with it. They are just being lazy and walking all over the consumer not allowing for a seamless process. Instead they make this whole thing a absolute mess for no reason and there isn't any I can do. 

 

@truferblue22 and what magically happens on the 18th I suddenly get my money they never sent. It'll be another 6 weeks of headaches because they refuse to understand they messed up. I should not have to wait over 3 months for a **bleep** refund. That's beyond being patient, the company itself is using it's power to abuse it's power and control. It's that simple. And to defend a company for neglect is weird.

PLEASE STADIA, STAY!!!! I don't want any refunds as long as you stay. I love this game platform and I was enjoying it SO MUCH. What am I going to do with my life after 01/18?? PlayStation is too expensive and they are not producing anymore consoles. Xbox doesn't have all the games I like Stadia did. DON'T GO PLEASE!!!

@Roxyota what do you mean playstation aren't producing anymore.... Literally the majority of places is now stocked with ps5's .... I was told the UK didn't have any in stock ( that wasn't at a ridiculous price ) ... After being told this I had ordered one within 5 minutes direct from Sony that was delivered the next day ..... Order direct with Sony ...it's cheaper and you get it as normal price and aren't ripped off!! But saying their not producing more is false ... I know your sad stadia is ending we all are ..but it's time to move on ... Use your refund to fund a new system

I didn't get to play as much as I liked, but I'll tell you that my kids had a blast!  Thanks for three years of great game play. I'll be waiting for your next venture.
