Let me preface this by saying I don't believe stadia is going anywhere any time soon and that I understand this decision was not made lightly and in fact was probably the right decision going forward. BUT, yesterday's announcement was a bad look in the gaming community. It was terrible timing. The r/stadia subreddit is on fire with speculation that this is the beginning of the end - and those are the people that support you. everywhere else (looking at you r/gaming) already thought you were DOA and this is just more "proof."

Now I know those groups of people are only a fraction of your target audience, but they are the most vocal fraction. It will be difficult to reverse the damage I believe was done by your recent announcement. I know this is typically a slow time of year for the gaming industry and I'm typically not one to rely on ultimatums, but if Stadia doesn't do or say something positive to inspire hope for the future of its brand (and I mean QUICK), the positive momentum you gained from the cyberpunk release will not only diminish, but I fear the needle will start moving in the opposite direction.

Good Luck

Well, more games is cool.

Some more in depth communication would be appreciated though - especially considering yesterday.

good, but now more than ever you REALLY need to come out and clarify your plans for Stadia's future. the negativity that has stirred up from yesterday's announcement will set Stadia back unless you step in and clear things up.

Please be upfront with us and honestly tell us especially the founders and tell us if stadia I closing down or does it have a long term future? Yesterday's statement did nothing but create more questions than answers

Who's so crazy to spend money on stadia now that your last statement made everyone think that you're going to shut it down soon?

If it's not true, just make a new statement about your future plans for Stadia. If you're fine with what every blog is writing since yesterday, it means you're really going to close stadia.

Oh well, no more first party games, but I'm still in it for the AAA titles.

@GraceFromGoogle  Hi Grace I know you are getting a lot of this right now. But seriously talk to your boss tell them that the community is screaming for reassurance. They need to get on top of this and make people feel great about the platform again. If they don't the player base will almost certainly dwindle as the news has been a huge hit to our value proposition of betting on stadia and google.

Edit: I think all of the Stadia team have done a great job this week bringing us good news that really helps calm the nerves. I really appreciate the hard work put in and I know comments like this can sometimes be harsh. You're doing your job and you're trying to make us all happy which is impossible. Thanks for the hard work @GraceFromGoogle  @ChrisFromGoogle .

Welcome to the Indie platform with no first party game at all.

The platform that got advertised and hyped with tons of features, just to make a completely mislaunch and don't implement those features from the start. All because we love negative press.

The place where we announce games like Mafia and five EA titles, just to only present you with 25% of those. (Mafia = three games plus five EA is 8. Two are now published (Star Wars and Madden) is 25%. Because we know you will love the tech we will mainly focus on that. Who needs games anyway? We have an awesome platform!

The company that thinks you can easily spread content online, just to never reply on any in-depth question you get. As if the internet is a one way street where it's unnecessary to attend to reputation fires. Why should a community manager manage a community? All you need to do is post PR BS from the company and the sheep will listen!

The rocky climbing system that finally got some positive press because of other platforms not running Cyberpunk well. Not that it's necessary to 1000% upscale all your marketing efforts then...

The studio that got killed before it even launched a game. Oh yeah, and it also killed all the positive news from Cyberpunk and news outlets are back on the "will Stadia go the Google Graveyard?" -train.

Stadia, the cloud-gaming solution that could have been so great, so amazing, so attractive, but fell in to the wrong hands and died a painful and (looking at the blog from yesterday) slow death.

Okay back to Night City, thank you all!

Hilariously, people think Google owes them an explanation about the post from yesterday.

Yesterday's post was the explanation. They're closing the studio to focus on the platform. Why does this need additional comment? It stands on its own. Stadia, the platform, isn't going anywhere. Stadia, the games maker, is all that's gone. And considering they never actually made a game, we're not actually missing anything, and anything they might have been working on we weren't going to see for another couple years anyhow.

Now, who's enjoying those new pro games?

Unfortunately the way the messaging comes across is:

"We got the data we needed from the early adopters & the rollout of the technology. We no longer need them, so we'll pay lip service, but moving forward we're just advertising the capabilities of the technology to other 'Platforms, Publishers & partners'. We used our consumers to build a product we could then sell on to others. The real customers."

Now this may not actually be the case, but that's how the messaging came across.

You've sunk your own battleship.

For everyone asking for a reply by Google or a statement about the press fire from yesterday; they are never ever gonna reply at all! They think that's not necessary. Google is God and it doesn't need to reply because it's awesome. All you need to do is believe in it lol

Cheers Grace, we do appreciate the update as always and the consistency despite events out of your control. Timing is harsh, but glad you still made the effort. Yesterday's news would have been just as concerning for you as for the rest of the community so glad you and Chris are still about and looking forward to future updates.

Grace, do you agree with what's happening? Please, how do we make Phil Harrison remove from his position? Remember that you could be the next to be fired at a few moments like these... And why isn't there in the community ()  doesn't help anyone and no one is foolish to realise what's happening to Stadia

I will have to know more about the long term future of the platform, and Googles dedication to it, before spending more money building a collection. This doesnt help rebuilding confidence at all. Very sad.

Everyone they already explained stadia is going nowhere just that they are not going to produce their own games ...why is this so hard to understand  .... seriously people read stuff properly and as for clarification  grace posted clarification straight after yesterday's announcement !!

Lots of people on here saying "don't worry". For many of us though the dream is now over. Without first party titles that are not only AAA but showcase all the unique features that native cloud games can bring to the table why would any other developer jump on board? They got this completely the wrong way round. First they needed top titles to draw people in and then they needed to let people discover the benefits of cloud games once they were invested in the platform.

Now it turns out Stadia is essentially a tech demo for publishers who want to lease the infrastructure. Can't see anything more than a few indie titles and a gradual fade to black now. The saddest thing is that Google didn't even try. They didn't manage to release a single standout game on the platform. There was so much potential.

I've been interested in the typing game. Don't think many people will be buying anything on stadia for a bit though. Good luck Stadia, I'm rooting for you!

After yesterday's announcement, I hope that more clarification will be given as to what consumers can expect to see where stadia is going, whether it's going to be servicing the consumer directly as a platform/service or if it is moving to a more b2b model instead. I think if this means this cut will bring bigger games like cod, fortnite, etc. then I think it would be a smart one in order to build the player base that stadia needs and of course to make MONEY. Then maybe once those are established stadia can then reconsider doing a 1st party game/studio.

Still disappointed SG&E and the R&D teams never got an actual chance to show us what they can do and I feel for all the team members involved and wish them best of luck. Stadia is where I want to play and I love the community, I'm staying optimistic in hopes that stadia will continue to grow. I will keep supporting Stadia and will keep my Pro subscription. I just hope we get some more reassurance and/or communication as to what I and other consumers who are invested into stadia can expect moving forward.

Journey To The Savage Planet looks lovely and fun, can't wait to play it, I already claimed but I'm still glued to Cyberpunk 2077

I know this are times of disarray for some, and I can only hope that the people that recently found themselves jobless are taken care off in the best possible way. Stadia is changing, we don't know if it's for the better (of the player base) or just focusing on commercial partners. I still believe in the service, it's reliable and stable system and the genuine gaming ethos of some involved. All I can ask you is to listen to the community, keep being transparent on what's stored in the future and keep bringing good games.

Why are people so worked up. If i was running Stadia id probably close the Game making side of it too. It would be near impossible to compete with the big exsisting developers. Why not let them do what they do best in making good games and Stadia focus on getting the platform amazing whilst bringing those AAA games to the Stadia. Did the Stadia even release any in house games? If not we're not missing anthing anyway.

I love Stadia so have decided to stay positive and give the team a chance to prove what’s coming in the first half of 2021, let’s hope it’s exciting :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Every system has a brand. Sonic, Mario, portal, fortnite, the list is long. And now google will be faceless. I have invested in this idea and I have my fingers crossed cause I don’t want to lose my money. So show us a sign or it’ll be lights out and a lot of people will have wasted their hard earned money on vaporware. An exclusive would have shown that google IS invested but this feels like a let down.

Very well, you finally realized that you can't compete with the software houses that have been generating AAA games for a lifetime (you don't have the time or money). Now with the resources saved, focus on improving the platform on both the hardware and software sides. Create agreements with third parties to build their new/old games for Stadia.
I think the success of cyberpunk 2077 on stadia speaks for itself.
Only once you have a user base like the consoles / PCs, you can start making exclusive AAAs for Stadia.

The future is Matrix, Sword Art Online, Ready Player 1. We want the animus, that is the future, you know it and I know it, the longer you take to bring this, other companies will take the advantage of you.

You do not have to give it to us completely, create it little by little.

A small group of developers can create an interface lobby and little by little add more things, starting with a house to a neighborhood and so on.

To all those who are in panic now and not throughout the year, I do not understand what you expect by applauding whatever they gave you with blind fanaticism.

Journey to the Savage Planet is not playable FYI. You can play for a while, but you'll never be able to load your save game. Or delete it either. That game might be fun, but it's very unreliable.
