Google has the infrastructure to make this work. It would have been cool with me if there was a crowd funded option. This way the developers could put up all their games into a library  and if enough people pre-order a game to pay for the port then it is ported over. Google could show their end of the support by putting some of the money up to help port the game OR you pay half the cost for the game and google pays the other half. It would show the community and the game developers there is interest in these games. It would also show what games people want to have access to on Stadia and have the games most wanted ported over.

@Classic-Rando : don't get me wrong I understand the frustration. I am frustrated too. I am just saying it may take some time (more than a year or longer depending on coding for games to become available.)

AAnd I'm saying that in a year, when everyone has a PS5, New Xbox or RTX 3080 gpu, nobody will have any need for stadia, all they had over anyone until now was 4k streaming (on the one game it worked on) and empty promises.

In a year, people will have tried stadia, dumped it, and never look at it again.

THEY'VE MADE A MESS OF THE PLATFORM RELEASE, AND NOW ALMOST EVERYONE HAS ALREADY LEFT!

They need to fire whoever is in charge, and hire actual gamers to run the company, I still can't get over the fact that they launched without text chat, and a year later we still don't have it?

Synzoa

Sorry for the double post... I selected to edit it.

@Classic-Rando I am in the same boat you are. I am the only one left of my friends that have stuck it out. I also agree with you if they waited a year they would have had more games. The hard part is most big companies don't like sharing what is going on behind the scene. We don't know if any of the big games are coming or are in development and we won't know until they are almost at the end of their coding cycle. I feel this is something that needs to change in the industry as a whole. Development needs to be more transparent to their communities with realistic goals. No more "this game is going to take a year to develop".  A development cycle for a game can be up to 10 years before its release form the start of coding. To port these games to Stadia's standards may take another year or 2 for triple A games. We may be seeing indie games more because they are smaller and take less time to code over to Stadia.

Nice, but onboarding of new big budget mainstream titles would be better. What about a few hundred successful older titles? Can’t be that difficult to give customers more choices.

AAgain hence why I used AC as an example.

They've already ported over the game engine, porting Origins etc would be easy (relatively speaking), and it's a game that still sells well.

It's just another example of mismanagement, the more I talk, the more it just seems to come down to mismanagement, that and the underestimation of word of mouth, if 50 people on a discord server all agree stadia was terrible (for whatever their personal grievances), person number 51 likely isn't going to try it.

Synzoa
Community Member

@Thomas_ I agree. The hard part is these upcoming games have been in development for over 3 to 5 years. Stadia was not even in the picture when these games first started their development cycles. Stadia is an after thought. Depending on the games development budget Stadia is an additional cost that the studios may not be willing to budget for. The down fall is some game studios would rather push the product as is make what they can on it and then look into Stadia if the game is a hit.

Hence why the need to do what they did with Ubisoft, and pass over a briefcase full of cash

Synzoa
Community Member

@Classic-Rando But is that a google thing or is it Ubisoft? Does Ubisoft have contacts in place for the older games? Or is Ubisoft not willing to put the man power over to porting the games instead of pushing out a new IPO. I don't think google would pay Ubisoft to hire another team to port the game over. I do think google would pay them a portion of sales or pay them for a rights contract to have the game free on their pro subscription.

Again it is the question who should we be yelling at? I say both google and Ubisoft. but that is me.

Something that the developers have done to hurt Stadia is no cross platform play. Bungee Kicked Stadia right in the teeth when a popular game buys into the platform but does not allow cross platform. This hurt stadia because the servers felt empty. If all the multi player games would have supported this from the beginning stadia would also be in a better position. Yet again the old mighty dollar stepped in. It is more profit for the developer if they force you to buy the game on the different plat forms to play with your friends.

Love stadia! The console is just taking off but of course we have the haters who think they know the future. Xboxes start was crappie and had a hand full of games so yeah lets not forget big ideas take a while to take off. But no one is making anyone play it so negative comments just show how little some people know.

I guess they needed to add these games so they don't have to give out AAA games on pro. They can give these out instead.

GGoogle need to make stadia appealing as possible to devs, from what I have read in the past devs have openly said that the financial rewards that stadia is offering them done equate to them wanting to jump in and start putting games out.

That is on Google, they have to make it financially beneficial for them. Just like apple does with games on its app store that never get to see the light of day on android.

They should also take a look at apples model of do these games/apps meet the standards to be on the store. Stacks on stacks is an insult of a game free or not.

Google is attempting to snatch a stake of a multi billion pound industry from established players, Sony, Xbox etc, these companies have a history of selling their consoles at a loss.

Profits at this stage is not what should be on Google mind, gaining presence and a player base is hugely important, this will cost money if they want it to work. Which they will recoup later if their business model is set up correctly.

Make the devs who have the AAA games old and new, want to get as many ported to stadia as they can, that's the answer. Not indie games, maybe when fully established yeah.

I am unaware of game developers being paid by any other console or pc provider to make games. There are contracts for games to be exclusive to consoles. but we as consumers\investors are the ones that purchase\invest in games\studios and make it profitable for game development. IF google is offering anything for this that is kudos to them. All OS stores are price fixed at 30% you want to sell anything on IOS, Android, Steam? get ready to pony up 30% of your profit to pay them. Even for in game purchases. This is the only industry were price fixing has been acceptable. The government normally steps in and stops this. This is why Apple is in hot water at the moment about its Apple Store along with Google Play and Steam. From my understanding they are charging less than the price fixed industry standard. I am surprised google is not doing the same here as they are with Google Play. It is a store were people can buy/rent their products. This technically can be seen as another revenue stream for these game developers.

Yes google needs to make themselves relevant. The main question is at what cost they are willing to pay to do this. I am surprised they are willing to pay anything and are not just taking a % off the top of all game sales like all the other consoles and OS stores do.

The main reason consoles sell at a loss is because no one would buy them when they can get a gaming PC for the same price if not less. They are forced to hit a price point because by the time the console is manufactured and set to sell to the public they are 2 iterations if not 10 behind the PC market. No one is going to pay top dollar for inferior technology.

Just look at the parts required to match an Xbox one S

http://blog.logicalincrements.com/2016/07/building-pc-beats-xbox-one-s/#:~:text=With%201792%20SPs%20....

I know my gaming computer was over $3,000.00. Hell the RTX2080TI was $1,700.00 alone. and it is already outdated!

The new gaming consoles have been in development for years before they are brought to market.

I'm all about new games but some updates would be nice like I'd like to be able to use my controller through mobile data without my cord... considering its the only way I can play for the time being that being said it runs incredibly by the way! On only 4 bars of LTE too!

I will give Stadia that, my house in America has no 5G close, and when I leave Central London, I have no 5 G, that said, it isn't a problem at all, in fact I've posted about my 500mbps wifi mesh network, with Netgear orbi stations that I use to connect to my Chromecast with an ethernet cable, and the probably weekly problems I have with 10 to 15 minutes of unplayable lag assailing me, even though my speeds, lag and jitter are still fine on my network.

That's a problem I've yet to encounter with LTE mobile data running at an average of 40 to 50 mbps.

Love these! Keep 'em coming and I appreciate all your efforts that shows commitment to building the platform. We do need fillers (good indies and old games - your curation is excellent so far) in between AAA games. We'll probably find a lot of gems among these Indies. Excited to see what your second year will bring.

It's nice that these indie developers have opportunities to make their games. However, without more AAA titles Stadia is dying a slow death. I really want Stadia to succeed because more gaming options is better for us gamers. These small titles don't move the needle for the majority of us.

  • Ok... where is family share? Seems like we are still missing a lot of promised features nearly a year out. I purchased Stadia because eso was advertised as one of the games, which took 6 months to become reality. How many years is it going to take to fulfill all of your launch commitments. You set yourself up to fail from the beginning.

I'd completely forgotten about that, that's a prime example of the" other "problems I was talking about, we're a year into launch, many of the launch" promises" seem to have been forgotten about, we certainly don't get updates about them, we should be getting weekly

"we want to get here, and are currently here, and we have problems x and y to overcome"

You know, a road map, so people can see what is going on weekly, and what work is being done, but it's been a year of no communication, features dropping without notice (and often badly implemented (voice chat, we need a wired mic, the controller can't power anything better than the cheapest pair of cans, so we suffer terrible sound, whenever we want to talk to someone in game, in the PS4, I can just plug in the cheap mic(which is provided) and listen to the sound through my Sonos Arc surround system, it's almost as if the controller has a mic, but we retain control over how the sound is played, common sense decisions like that will make or break the platform for some people.).).

And it's been a year, and we still don't have text chat (and it's not like a PC back in the day when before we had Discord or Vent, teamspeak etc, we could chat through MSN Messanger (yes I'm that old, I used to chat with MSN, as it was the only option for online gaming.).), there are dozens of text chat options they could just integrate with the system, but they have to build their own from scratch, anyone want to put odds on it being terrible?

Stadia, get your act together!

I dont think people realize that theres a whole process when adding AAA games or games in general.  I see people getting mad that stadia doesnt have Warzone or apex or battlefield when the service is still practically new. People need to understand that large game companies hold back on new consoles and see how they work. This is why Indie games are important in the gaming industry. The more indie games coming in, the more reputable game companies will take notice. Just think . Why wouldnt Activision want to join a instant gaming platform that's almost completely versatile and absolutely and requires no updates nor downloads. AAA gaming companies knows that stadia exist. It's like fishing. You got the little fish nibbling the bait while the big fish stays back to see the little fishs reactions to make sure its "safe". AAA game companies hold back and observe how stadia upholds.

Also, it you haven't took notice then the newer indie games we have now on stadia are so much more  developed when stadia first launched. Stadia is growing and getting better. It's sad how some people are getting riled up . Stop focusing on the now and start focusing on the baby steps stadia is taking to reach the future.

Trust me, major publishers are looking and so far they do not like what they are seeing, hence no major games are being ported. Look what Microsoft did in one big (like 7 billions big) push, they completely wiped any conversations about Xbox not having exclusives. Google have deep pockets, but they are not interested in investing heavily into the service. For them, Stadia is just another experiment - either it will or will not work out. As for Indie games - I will be blunt here. With all due respect to talented developers who make them - I do not care about that kind of games, at all. I don't have time to play games I can play on my few years old iPad. I want blockbuster entertainment from gaming, not some niche pixelated stuff - and this is precisely why Stadia is not service for me at this moment.

Yep, it's the old "we can stream 16 bit games in 4k nonsense," nobody cares about 4k streaming if you can't take advantage of the service.

And I completely agree, there are hundreds of games out there that I want to play, I'll be playing RDR2 online (alone) before I waste my time playing indie games (no disrespect to the creators, but for every thousand indie games, you get one Undertale, generally considered by most as the best indie game ever, and once you get over the novelty, it's not really that good.).

When I buy a game I want a rough £1 to 1 hour of entertainment, so if I buy AC Odyssey Ultimate edition for £90 and get 300 hours, I consider that a good buy, and then you can always play it again, most indie games, I'm giving up on after 10 minutes and picking up my PS or Xbox controller again, so unless they're free, even if they only cost £10, the £90 game is actually better value.

You also have the enjoyment guarantee factor, take a game like Immortals, Fenyx Rising, it looks just like Zelda and AC Odyssey had a baby between gameplay and mythology, hell the only difference in the UI is that you have stamina bars instead of circles, basically they made a Zelda game for people who don't own a Switch.

I'm guaranteed to enjoy that game, I already kinda feel like I've played it, and this is an expansion into a new universe, with other games like Cyberpunk, I know less about it, but I know I'm going to love the game!

With these indie releases I don't have a clue what I'm going to get, I don't trust any games journalism to tell me anything about it, apart from to show me very curated gameplay, so buying a game I'm going to enjoy is a complete gamble.

At the end of the day, stadia has been out for a year (been under development for God knows how much longer) and I still have an extremely limited catalogue of games to buy (and believe me, I've bought everything worth owning), I don't have to work anymore (and call me sexist, but I don't expect the missus to work either), so the odd night out etc aside, my time is my own, and I I burn through games pretty fast, at the moment I've nothing that I want to play on Stadia, I'd rather shoot my missus in the head on COD (PC).

Looking forward to playing these. Well done Google for supporting the independent scene with Stadia Makers. I know we all want "triple a" titles but this pandemic seems to have hit everyone in the gaming world. In a non pandemic maybe more would have come out we will never know.  I applaud Google for getting out the games they have a topped off with the indie collection. I am enjoying stadia and look forward to the future.

I really want to like Stadia, I'm actually blown away by how well it works and how good the picture quality is, it's so much better than the competition. However do you know what the competition has? Games, they have games. xCloud will continue to stomp stadia into the ground because it actually has games. Where are the games google? Stop it with this no-name forgettable indie stuff and give us actual games, where's the uplay+ integration? Did you forget about that?

Why not have the biggest mobile games ported over with better graphics?

When lacking user base - use the technology to merge mobile gaming with console gaming with the advantage of console graphics.

Console vs mobile is not a mutually exclusive thing - its my fourth month on Stadia and I play more mobile games... wishing the best of both worlds.

They think everything is created with a magic wand and have no clue half of what they get was from the blood sweat and tears from techs years ago, who might be long forgotten. It's cancel culture, and as you can see its very disturbing social group of spoiled rotten mother get them a trophy for showing up mentality gone wild. While I'm not a fan of throwing all these old games on Stadia for a quick cash grab and dilute the system. This is a great program and I hope you expand it beyond the UNITY engine. If so, I have one that's coming in the coming years...

I also waited a year hoping that Stadia would compete with the other platforms, unfortunately it seems to be a India game factory and that’s not what I signed up for. AAA games are far and between, MADDEN 21 was promised then disappeared along with other games. I pushed Stadia to friends and raved about the platform, but every month I’m  disappointed with game release’s. I don’t care about 4K play and all that other tech stuff, I just would like to play games with others (cross play) big Titles. PUBG working great and that’s the only exciting game on Stadia at the moment. Leaving Stadia after Xmas if nothing changes, I would like to play Fornite, Starwas,MADDEN 21, NBAK21, Call of duty, and etc—-you get the picture.

Hi BigT3xas,

Well, you have to look at it different, Stadia is a platform, they are not a publisher, whereas MS and PS are. I imagine in a decade, Stadia will probably become one as they will acquire assets, but they are a tech company with a product. And that product base takes time to develop. Some of my best projects going up in web development were amazing pieces of work. I thought I'd be a millionaire in no time. After 6 months, I had 3 sales and gave up... 3 years later it caught on and I had to get ack at it... Can't imagine where I'd be if I just stayed on those projects those 3 years, I'd probably own MS by now.

Look, It takes a company with massive assets 5 years to make a AAA game and not even finished on release, now after just 1 year you are ready to throw in the towel? I think Stadia was very slow to start, but its picking up, and of course people are going to come over, grab a dev kit and port their content it... And working with Indie developers grows the platform. As for football...

Madden release was Winter 2021, I thought it was coming out earlier too, I relooked at all the articles and they all stated Winter 2021, so I think we got it confused with some other article blog that posted Golf on the 15th and football on the 25th. I was complaining we'd lose 3 days of MUT trading, then it never arrived and I was confused.. Maybe someone screwed up, but all around it was stated for Winter. Online communities are not ready for Stadia, as much as we'd like them to be, which is probably why you won't be seeing COD etc like games till later next year

I was born in a house in Glodwick and I didn't have a TV in my room till I was 13 (I inherited my bothers black and white one, when he got the old one from the front room, and that's the only thing I inherited my entire life), I didn't consider myself to be living in poverty, but if you put someone today considered to be living in poverty and my family side by side, well I'll put it this way, my street had shared toilets behind the road, they froze over in winter, so if you needed the toilet, and it was cold, you'd be wise to bring a hammer with you.)

When I was 16, I had to leave home because I'd been stabbed in the gut and someone attempted to cut my throat (luckily I half blocked it, and cut my arm an face from the ear down to my jawline (that was fun.). My crime was walking to school through "Muslim streets" because that was the direct way to school.)

I put myself through college and uni, started a business, and recently sold it, everything I have, I Earned!

I get very annoyed when I read comments like yours, you blanket everyone into a big group, and then apply arbitrary factors to them, that most likely aren't true, just so you can justify your dismissal of their viewpoints, if you're going to argue a point, then argue on its merits, or lack thereof, all you do by resorting to insulting people who say things you don't like is that you can't argue on an even playing field, so just resort to muck slinging and insults.

As for the "Stadia haters", do you mean all the people who have put months (in some cases a year) into stadia, their time and money, and are disappointed, so they are letting stadia know why they are unhappy, I've yet to come across a post that says "Stadia sucks, I just hate it", if that's what you're reading, all you're doing is showing off your ignorance.

Basically grow up don't make assumptions about people who you don't know from Adam, it just makes you look ignorant.

It's great to see more indie games coming to Stadia and there could be some real hits out there.  Guacamelee! was one such hit for the PlayStation and if a few of those Stadia games are as big of hits as that Guacamelee! was, it would be great for Stadia.  People need to appreciate indie games because sometimes they need breaks from those AAA titles every once in awhile.

For those of you knocking the indie games. A LOT of these games are absolutely boss and fairly priced.

Loving the indie games. Year 1 into Google Stadia has been pretty great so far.
