HUMANKIND is launching tomorrow, August 17, and we’re looking forward to jumping into this turn-based historical strategy game and creating our own unique culture. On Stadia, HUMANKIND is launching with two important integrations that will change the way you play - and we’re revealing the full details today along with our friends at Amplitude Studios!
Within HUMANKIND, you’ll see a feature called Leave Your Mark, which is how Amplitude Studios uses State Share to add a competitive spin on the game. Think that you've done a great job in your game of HUMANKIND? With Leave Your Mark, you can capture a screenshot or video clip and invite friends to play your unique game world from the beginning, with the ability to compete against your own accomplishments and discover remnants of your civilization.
Friends can compete for Fame and see if they can achieve more for their civilization than you did - or stand in the shadows of your accomplishments!
Leave Your Mark gives players three types of content to explore and compete to discover within every game state captured with State Share:
- Memories Events - These mark significant accomplishments by the game state creator during the game, with Fame rewards.
- Challenges - These are great actions by the game state creator that will generate additional challenges for players to attempt, rewarding Fame if accomplished in time.
- Archeology Sites - The map records the remains of civilizations and humanity left behind by the game state creator. Discovering these sites triggers Fame bonuses and special Narrative Events.

In addition to State Share, Stadia is making it easier than ever to play games on your phone with a new input method called direct touch, launching first with HUMANKIND. Direct touch enables you to interact directly with a game using your phone’s touch screen. Instead of using a touch gamepad overlay. For example, direct touch allows players to control the game by tapping, sliding, and pinching the screen with your fingers to directly play the game.

You’ll be prompted to enable direct touch after you launch HUMANKIND on Stadia via your Android mobile device when you don't already have a controller linked. Direct touch is coming soon to Stadia on mobile web for players on iOS!

Before the arrival of HUMANKIND tomorrow on the Stadia store, the team at Amplitude Studios had the following to share about the journey to create this game and what players can expect starting at Turn 1 tomorrow:
HUMANKIND is a true labor of love that we’ve been working on for more than 4 years and dreaming about making since the studio was founded a decade ago.
For those of you who don’t know us, we’re Amplitude Studios, a 130-person studio based in Paris behind strategy game titles like Endless Legend, Endless Space 2, and Dungeon of the Endless. We’re also proud to be a part of SEGA Europe. In HUMANKIND, we’ve left our sci-fantasy roots to tackle history for the first time, and it’s been quite the journey taking on such challenging subject matter.
HUMANKIND is a turn-based historical strategy game, in which you’ll be leading your people from the Neolithic to the Modern era. At the start of each era, you’ll be able to choose one of ten cultures to adopt, whose traits will stack with those of your previous cultures.
The goal of the game is to accumulate as much Fame as possible – the person with the highest Fame score wins. This means that all your actions throughout the game truly count, not just who has the biggest army at the end. We’ve worked with historians to ensure that the building blocks of the game are historically authentic, but what you create with them is up to you!
Finally, we want to thank everyone for our support and participation in making this game the best it can possibly be. Last October, we ran our OpenDev program on Stadia where thousands of you played through a gameplay slice and gave us your feedback on what you liked and wanted to improve. We’re excited for you all to see the result.
We hope you enjoy, and we can’t wait to hear your thoughts!
