closed account receiving refunds

Jump to Best Response

so I was getting emails about refunds due to the closing of Stadia as per January 28, but the account is closed. I spoke to the bank of which the card is associated with, and they said that the refunds would have been canceled or would have not went through or was sent back, so what's up with that? What can I do?

I have contacted Google, the card, distributor, stadia, I don't know what to do.

Waiting is probably the best in your case @whoburnthetoast, because if the refund will fail you'll get an email from Google with instructions on how to provide an alternate payment method.

Especially since you have confirmed it with the bank as well it sounds like the refunds will fail at the end. I heard from other users it can take up to 2 weeks for the email to arrive, so just be patient and once it arrives provide the new details according to the instructions.

Google also mentioned they want to proceed all refunds by Jan 18, 2023, so there's still some time left, so no need to panic.

You don't say where you live.

In the UK the bank will forward you the money to your new bank if you used the current account switch service, otherwise it would be returned to Google.

Petition Google for the money, but wait seven to ten days.

If you need further help, please say where you live.

Unfortunately, google has confirmed that the refund went through to the closed payment method, even though the bank says that the account is closed. it might be an issue with google pay but idk. also to answer @generalvodon, I live in the states

nope...google pay wont do anything either...im going through the EXACT same thing....stadia sent the refund to an unemployment card that isnt allowed to have money put on by anyone accept a state agency so when the refund hit the card they locked the account and wont give me the money they wont take the money off or ANYTHING....all they do is say that stadia since they are the ones that sent the refund terminate the refund then send it to the one that it should that my account has had updated to FOREVER....so basically if stadia does not terminate my 6 refunds that went to that card totalling $199.58 then im beat because the bank wont touch it to take it off so that the dumb auto system of google sees that there is a problem....and i see this happening to soooooooooo many people....i didnt want this to happen in the first place ....hence the whole reason i updated payment method and only the RIGHT CARD is there...and i updated it soon as i heard about the refunds this is beyond frustrating having money on a card that is meant for you that you arent able to get and you get told talk to the bank and the bank says talk to google and google says talk to bank and back and fourth and back and fourth

Same here. Bank can't do anything and Google or stadia refuse to help as well. So what are we to do now when all parties involved blame the other and won't help. If my previous bank can't do anything, stadia support as well as Google pay says to talk to my bank yet no one is willing to take any blame or initiate any help whatsoever.

Hey there, @whoburnthetoast,

Just wanted to check in on your situation. After reviewing part of your case, it seems like you received an email saying something along the lines of "stadia has issued a refund... it may take several days for the refund to appear on your statement." This is only confirming that the refund has been started not necessarily that the refund was successful. If unsuccessful you should email another email asking to fix your form of payment in gPay. Let us know if this seems right for your scenario or if you are experiencing something different.

Best,

James
