Switching payment profiles?

Jump to Best Response
Stadia seems to be connected to a payment profile from long ago, when I lived in the UK. Hence, everything is in pounds. I have a US payment profile under the same Google account. How can I switch Stadia onto this other account?

About half way down this help center page it has a section labelled "I moved. How can I change my country?" which says you have to set up a new payment profile and then contact support.

@Mark1 Looks like payment is tied to the Google Play payment/subscription. Can you go to the following link while signed in with your Google account that you used to redeem Stadia:

https://play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions

Next to 'Stadia' click on 'Manage' , then update your primary payment method. See if that works.

Appreciate the help, although I have tried that already unsuccessfully. If I recall correctly, payment methods and payment profiles are very different things in the Google jargon.

Understood. I guess at this point you can try to reach out to support? I saw on another post you were already trying to contact them with regards to name change, so maybe you can ask them about this as well when you talk to them?

I'm in the same situation, could you keep this thread up-to-date if you get some new information? I found the option to remove my old payment profile, but Stadia is already connected to it and I don't know if removing my payment profile it will also delete my Stadia pro subscription or even worse the whole Stadia account...

I would guess it's not possible to switch Stadia or any subscription to another payment profile. The normal way to do it would be cancelling subscriptions on one profile, delete the profile, and subscribe again with the second payment profile.

You can still try to find more information using the Google helpcenter, for example this article.

Best way to figure this out, would be of course, to reach out to Stadia or Google Pay support to figure out if your wish is possible in any way.

Have you tried switching the payment method attached to the subscription through Google Pay?

It looks like I can change mine there.

Yes, it's possible to change the payment method, but not the payment profile. Every payment profile has its own payment methods

Hey Mark1, as most of these accounts and payments for Stadia are running through Google's Play Store, you might find these instructions beneficial. Keep in mind, it may take up to 24 hours for country changes to be made to payment/profiles. Here's step-by-step without a lot of hopping around:

  • To change your country, you need to set up a new country in Google Play. To set up a new country, you must be in that country and have a payment method from the new country.
  • On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Play Store Google Play. Tap Menu (hamburger icon) and then Account and then Country and profiles.
  • Tap the country where you want to add an account. Follow the onscreen instructions to add a payment method to that country.
  • The first payment method must be from the country you’re adding a profile for. Once you create the profile you can add payment methods from other countries. This creates a new Google Payments profile linked to the new country.

The Google Play Store will automatically change to the new country. It can take up to 24 hours to change. Hope this helps and let me know if you have questions.
