Hi all,
Due to the current state of the western world's economy I've recently developed fears of what I'm getting for my money when making purchases with Stadia.
I own Tomb Raider after purchasing it when it was on offer.
A year down the line what if Google decides Stadia is no longer financially viable and cancels the service? (We all know the launch has been more than disappointing, marketing has been almost non-existent)
What happens to my "copy" of Tomb Raider? What happens to my other 20 copies of AAA titles? Do I get a refund? Maybe some free digital copies on a platform of my choosing?
Stadia was unable to answer my question, probably because they know I wouldn't have liked the answer.
Anyone able the shed some light on the issue?
"IF" Stadia service gets canceled you lose the access to your purchased games period.
The same happen on other services like Steam or GoG, you actually don't purchase the game, but the license to play on the platform.
GoG games are drm free, so it doesn't matter if the storefront/galaxy shuts down.
Steam claims that if they went out of business they would release a patch to the software that would let you play without logging in. Plausible, since you can play offline right now, it would just be an extension of that feature permanently.
With Stadia, you lose access to the games.
Right, I forgot DRM free, those can be used anyway, but what Steam claim is useless without a contract (and you sign one for each game saying otherwise, that the game is tied to the DRM and can't be played without)
How about other games that relies on server that may close?
Simply if Stadia close, you lose the games, period.
There is no reason to think that this will happen anytime soon, but It could happen, but I'm ok with it since I'm saving enough money from not upgrading my hardware anyway.
