unable to use my google play balance on stadia or transfer it to my personal account

Jump to Best Response

Hi, Google Nerds,

Hear my tale of woe.
My dad got scammed and bought a lot of Google play cards, but he wised up before sending them to the scammer.  So he gave them to me and my brother.  Not a small amount, $200.  I added them to my google play account thinking I was going to use the balance to buy games on Stadia.  But when I tried to log in, I got a message that I can't using an organizational log in for Stadia (I own my own business and this is the account I use for practically everything,)   Google also didn't allow me to transfer my balance to my personal account, though I tried to get them to make an exception for me by escalating an inquiry to Google Play Store's chat help.  So I have this big credit on my account and I'm not able to do what I want with it, don't really have anything else I want to buy.

I find this very inflexible on three fronts: 1) the decision not to allow organizational accounts to log in to Stadia seems arbitrary,  2)Not to be able to transfer balances between two accounts that you control seems like a problematic limitation, particularly when people might accidentally bump up against differences in the capabilities of different accounts as I did and 3) Not being able to get a more flexible response from customer service based on the context.

I did everything I could do, politely following the available channels and hit a dead end, so here I am sharing my experience.

Hey there! This is an annoying situation, but there's some reason in it:

  1. Business accounts aren't made for individuals, but for businesses/employees. They may get some advantages, but they aren't meant for personal use. During work hours, you don't need Stadia, so it makes sense you wouldn't be able to log in to it.
  2. One could basically steal from the company this way, if a certain amount was given to buy something from GPlay for business use.
  3. I don't really have an answer to this one, but I assume this is tricky for support, since they need to be 110% sure you own both accounts, again to prevent theft.

I'm sorry this has happened, but I can see the reasoning behind most of these decicions.

Google is a great place and is not perfect, money is not and issue because they make money, asking for a transfer to your bank isn't going to happen for the rules are written and unfortunately accepted by you the user when you made the purchase, but the good news is that they will option your money out of Google play and put it any where else , example Google pay account, it won't let you cash it out, this is the system thinking it's a promotional offer and only applicable at checkout....towards your purchase , and of the amount is significantly great then your okay but for those who get 20 dollars then your probably have to spend a little more since googles items aren't below 30 dollars ....to be clear cash isn't going to happen by request, transfer of funds to another Google brand can happen credits to hulu, Google store,
