Son can't play

Jump to Best Response

I updated my son's age in his account as apparently it was set up wrong. Now games have disappeared from the store on his Stadia account, and certain shared games won't launch (nor do they give a popup or a warning or anything - they just don't launch - that's not great UI you guys).

I'm assuming this is because the shared game is 18+. Now, as a parent, I should be able to change the age rating for my son on the Stadia Family Dashboard. However now, 10+ hours after the age change, it's still not appearing.

Is Google Stadia working with nightly batch jobs or something like that to process these things? Do I just have to wait a bit longer before the age rating settings will appear?

My son's account is showing up on the family dashboard. It is also part of the Google family (outside of Stadia).

But there are no gameplay limit settings visible anywhere on the family dashboard.

I've gotten in touch with support about it and they suggested to put it back to 18+ (which it was before, due to a wrong setting). In using my own credit card - which was already linked to my own account btw - it was possible to do "age verification" for him.

A bit strange that the solution put forward by support is to lie to the system, but there you go...

Hi @Sir_JayVee

Here is how to allow your son to play those 18+ games:

Set gameplay limits

When you set up a Stadia account for your child, you can set limits on the game content they can access, as well as their ability to connect with other players. After their account is set up, manage these settings on the Stadia family dashboard.

Note: Any restrictions you set while your child is playing a game won't take effect until the next time they launch a game.

  • Games restrictions by rating: You can set content restrictions based on game ratings. Your child can access every game at the rating you choose and below. Your child won't be able to access games in the Stadia Store that have a rating above the one you've chosen.
  • How your child connects with other players: You can choose if you want your child to be able to play multiplayer games or voice chat with other players online.

Maybe I was unclear in my post. Those settings are exactly the settings that are not appearing.

I'm waiting for the settings to become available so I can change the allowed ratings. Currently, they are not available at that page.

Sorry about that, that was my bad with the misunderstanding.  It should automatically get updated, that's weird it's still not showing for you.  What device are you using play Stadia?  Maybe you need to sign out and then re-log?

I've tried on an android and via web (chrome) - on a windows and on a chromebook. I've tried in an incognito tab. All cases, there's no settings to allow certain ratings on my account and nothing to do on his account.

Funny though, the shared 18+ game won't launch on his chromebook, but it launches fine on his android. Still, we want to play Division 2 together and I can't purchase the game on his account

30+ hours after the age change, my son:

  • Can play division 2 as a shared game (but only on android)
  • Can not see or buy division 2 in the store

And I don't have settings to change his allowed age rating. So we want to buy a game, but Stadia won't let us. How does this platform aim to ever be profitable :face_with_tears_of_joy:

I’m sorry to hear it’s still not working properly. I wish I could test it out but I don’t have a secondary account to troubleshoot with.

Sorry about that

Have you installed the Google Family Link app? If you haven't set up family link, it might help move things along to do so.  I'm not sure what you mean by "not appearing", is it your son's account isn't showing up?  Is your son's account part of your Google "Family" and shows up on the dashboard?  For me, I can choose the account from the family dashboard, then go to gameplay limits, and then choose an ESRB rating.
